Mastro's Steakhouse - Costa Mesa Ratings and Reviews
Arrived early and waited in the bar - great music on a Sunday evening. Was originally seated in a table for 4 in the bar area but when we complained that it might be too loud for our party, staff accommodated us very quickly and did not appear put out by our request. The service and food were fantastic as usual and, of course, we were treated to a congratulatory dessert as we were celebrating a special occasion. Recommend Mastro's any time you have a special occasion to celebrate or are in the mood for a fine dining experience!
I’ll just get to the point.... food was delicious as always but the service was subpar. Our waiter and staff didn’t come around and check up on us to see if we needed anything or were ok. This is the first time our friends came to Mastro’s and it was a little disappointing for their first impressions but the good thing is they liked the food.
Our steaks are good, a little better than Morton's and Fleming's in my mind. But the service is a one star. For some reason, I just felt the waiter is really cold. The server didn't say hi or anything, handed me the menu without a word while I am talking to my husband. He barely said anything and checked on us at all. We brought our own wine and had to refill my glass myself. I've been to other upscale restaurants too, but never had this feeling. I probably would give it another try.
I've been to this location several times. This time though I was very disappointed. I made my reservations a month in advance and requested a seating of my choice and still was not accommodated. I think it's time for a change. They just cover themselves by saying we don't guarantee but try to accommodate. I think my money is just as green as everyone else.
Service was great as it should be for the price. I’ve been roughly 10-12 times.. The quality of the steak is where the disappointment lies. After $400 the best part of the meal should not be the mushrooms. It was not terrible, but not worth the price in my opinion.
We have visited Mastro's Las Vegas and wanted to try the Costa Mesa venue for my Birthday. Service by the wait team was excellent, food was prepared perfectly, and was served piping hot. The Steaks and the lobster mashed potatoes were excellent with wonderful flavor. The wine selection was very complete and the selected Cabernet Sauvignon was a beautiful accompaniment.
The price is high but I highly recommend Mastro's
Wanted to surprise my wife with a nice dinner. Found reservations online. Valet was quick. We were shown to our table right away. Our server (Tom, I believe) was very professional. Our food was delicious and the ambiance was great. Wife and I had a wonderful time. Planning to come back soon.
This Friday we met with some friends that we haven’t seen in over 10 years we choose to have dinner at Mastros Costa Mesa. I was very disappointed; first I like to say that my wife & I are regular clients at this location we have been coming here for many years. Your restaurant has always offered excellent service and treated us royally with the exception of this last Friday we had an early reservation at 6:45pm which was fine. We started by ordering cocktails also brought a bottle of wine. The waiter was very short and never offered the specials nor poured our wine in our glasses. When dinner was served they usually pamper you by serving the side orders on our plates or come back to the table to check on us.
We didn’t have that extra service that makes me feel that you are getting that service of excellency, their service was pretty much putting the plates on the table and walked away not to be seen for a while (NOTE: there was a few empty tables around us) after we had our deserts the waiter seen to be in such a rush to give us the bill at that time. I ordered another drink but the drink never came we waited and waited but the waiter was MIA I had to get another waiter to order my drink .I did not want to create a scene in front of my guest and opted to just walk away and go home. Over all our friends and us where happy to see each other but this service has bothered me all night because this is not the Mastros that I’m used to. I hope that Mastros reads this and corrects what needs to be corrected to continue their service of excellence.
We are frequent visitors to Mastros and the last 2 visits have been so bad we have now discussed not going back. The service was inattentive. Had to pour our own wine, constantly asking for more water, our halibut was served at room temperature- creamed spinach was not hot either. Very disappointed in a place that was our go to favorite for many years.
What has happened?
My first time at this location and it was amazing. I had dinner in the past at the Beverly Hills location and I have to say I enjoyed the service and food here much better. Everything was perfect. I cant wait to go back. The food, service, music all 1st class just like we (my amazing boyfriend who takes me out often to nice restaurants ) imagined our special evening (Valentine’s). Our servers kept a smile on my face. Thank you Mastro’s Costa Mesa.
My wife and I had our Valentine's Day dinner at Mastro's. While we have been here before we thought it would be fun and it was. Our table was located in the bar area not the main dining area and I thought, oh no, loud music and we wouldn't be able to talk. Then I sat next to my wife and all was good. Actually our seat was in a great spectator's spot and we could watch everything. The food was great and our waitress was attentive and cheerful. They were busy but that was to be expected.
Reservation for Our Anniversary wound up highly disappointing. We got what looked like a last minute table set up facing the bar/bus station with a musician four feet from our other side. We could barely hear ourselves talk much less stop the table from sliding across the floor. This will probably be the last time I try this location for anything special.
When we arrived and stood right front of the hostess, it took her over 90 seconds to acknowledge us. When she did acknowledged us, however, it was friendly. Next, although she said we are on time - since we were there 10 minuets early- and will be seated by 7pm, I had to remind them @ 7:10 because people that were standing behind us with 7pm reservations were already at their table. Here is why I gave the service a bad review: from 7:12 or so when we were seated, no one showed up to give us menu or acknowledge us until 7:29pm when another waiter from nearby station asked us if we were helped. A few minutes after that, the manager came by our table, probably because he realized I was annoyed, and things changed after that for the better. It ended up being a great night, but you will always remember you initial encounter. This was our first time at this location, we usually go to Mastro in Los Angeles.
As a CEO of an national firm, I have eaten at a lot of restaurants around the country and the world, customer service is as important (if not more) as food.
We’ll stick with LA Location.
The steak was cooked properly but the taste was average at best. The Brussel sprouts were bone dry and lacked flavor. Also, our scalloped potatoes were hard, dry, and overcooked. My $16 Moscow mule was sent back because it was simply bad. Our server was great though.
The quality of the food was amazing. I took my date on Valentine’s Day so the service wasn’t that personable and it wasn’t fast at all. After we ate we had to wait quite a while for dessert menus. I was impressed with the food portions. The quality and quantity is better here than Fleming’s hands down. I recommend the sautéed mushrooms with your steak.
The food was great and the service was fantastic. Unfortunately we got stuck at a corner table against the wall and the couple next to us was very loud and their voices were bouncing off the wall. It made for a noisy and unromantic Valentines Day date. When you spend 290.00 on dinner and tip you want to enjoy your conversation. If you eat there make sure you don’t get stuck at one of those tables.
The overall experience was great, first time there, service was helpful and kind, food was great, had shrimp appetizer, shared the 33 oz ribeye, with sides of truffle gnocchi and cream corn, the dessert butter pudding cake or something like that looks great, too bad We were full and taking a lot of the food home already. The waiter made a mistake on the bill but kindly apologize and fix, I didn't care as long as it get fix promptly and kindly, no place is perfect, we are all human and mistakes will happen. Will go back.
This was our first experience at Mastro‘s in Costa Mesa.Considering the bar has been set so high with the Mastro’s name, we were slightly disappointed in the taste and quality of the food. We each ordered a different steak, one filet and one bone-in filet. The quality of the meat of the bone-in filet was significantly higher. The side order of brussels sprouts was quite bland. The garlic mushrooms were good. The baked potato was just OK. We found out afterward that we could have ordered smaller portions of the vegetables for only two people. Our server did an excellent job of confirming a great wine selection and also checking on us at appropriate times throughout the meal. There are no dress code requirements, apparently, which tends to distract from a nice evening out when some patrons are sitting having dinner in their sweats.
My husband and I went with some friends to celebrate an early Valentine's Day dinner. It was our first time and we were not disappointed. The service was spot on from the time we drove up to the valet to end of dessert. We all had steaks (Chefs cut Ribeye and Porterhouse) which was out of the world. We shared the lobster mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and the rosemary mushrooms. All I can say is save room for the butter cake dessert, one serving was perfect for the four of us. We will definitely be back.
We were first seated downstairs in this odd hallway last table with my back facing the bar. My seat was wet and It was a little noisy so we asked to be moved so they moved. Upstairs was better though very bright with the lamps prefer dimmer lighting. Chopped salad was not as good as i thought, a little bitter. Steak, shrimp and creamed spinach excellent. A little pricey but overall good food though service took forever to get food. Sat night I guess.
