Mastro's Steakhouse - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
The blond hostes was not friendly. Other than that, it was all good. Your French fries are not nearly as good as Capital Grill (waitress was saying they were the best). We like the atmosphere and the martinis, leaving the shaker at the table is awesome.
Thank you. We will come back!
I had never been here and wanted to try it.When we walked in,the noise from the bar and music was overwhelming.(Very Loud) We asked to be seated away from the noise and we were seated upstairs which was better.I am a fish person and the waiter was very good at describing the steaks.I ordered the 12oz.filet and it was very good.My wife had steak and lobster and the steak was good but the lobster was terrible. The bread and salads were very good as were the cocktails.I eat only at the best restaurants in Chicago and I think that this is not one of the best.I wanted to like it, and it was OK.For $300.00 tab for 2, it should not be OK.There are other restaurants in Chicago that are worth the $300-$350.00 price.
Service would’ve been better but I gave the waiter cash and he never returned with my change which was 17 dollars so I let him keep it after 20 minutes of waiting on him to return. He could have received a much bigger tip than $17, In conclusion the food was amazing.
I took my boyfriend here for his 30th birthday celebration dinner last Saturday. We thought it was going to be good, but it exceeded our expectations with flying colors! Our server was one of the bests I've ever had (and I've worked in the restaurant industry for over 10 years). He gave us excellent recommendations for ordering and provided a friendly and genuine experience. The delivery and plating of the food was unlike anything we had ever seen. And the food itself, well we're still dreaming about it. Thank you so much for surprising him with a beautifully plated cake and candle and providing us an outstanding experience! We're going to come back to celebrate a "holiday" night towards the end of the month we've decided!
had a very nice dinner while attending a conference. arrived a little early and was seated quickly very friendly wait staff. food was excellent as was the wine. in conversation with waitress learned they had Pappys bourbon and ordered a shot. very enjoyable evening on all accounts
I absolutely LIVE Mastro’s! Celebrated my 25th wedding anniversary here (5yrs ago) and have dined here since. While the food and drink are always above and beyond expectations, my server Kelly was not. Each time she walked to our table she made a point to touch my husband. Not cool at all! We started counting and it happened 6 times between his back and shoulder. I called next day and manager told me it was nothing. Okay, so please let it be nothing when I return & she does it again and I loudly call her out on it. My friends have been made aware so let it be nothing in whatever way they react.
My son and I got together for dinner. We had the chopped wedge salad, porterhouse, bone in ribeye, sautéed spinach and French fries. We also had a martini, bourbon and Manhattan.
Leah was our server, and she was great. Always available, but not intrusive.
As usual, the food was delicious and perfectly prepared.
This place is not cheap, but compared to other Chicago restaurants, it’s not crazy either.
I just like the ambiance and the quality of their food and service.
We have been here many times before and will definitely be back again.
We made this reservation for my husbands birthday dinner. When they called to confirm, they confirmed it was his birthday and wanted to spell out his name on something. When we got there they had no note or anything. I asked and they said no. The table next to us had a card and dessert. It made me feel awful that they dropped that ball after even calling them on it. Our bill was $300 for two people and they couldn't get it right
Our server forgot to order the appetizer we asked, and he also forgot to bring the bread set at the beginning. In the high class restaurant like this, I would say I was extremely disappointed by the server. He didn’t even try to make up after all. We all felt disrespectful by the server and the restaurant. The food was great. The service was awful.
this steak house is pricey; as a result it needs to be extraordinary. I ordered the double
lobster tails, one was overcooked, dry and salty. I probably should have sent it back.
I went out to another restaurant the following evening and it was half the price and a better meal. The meal was just ok. I think there are better steak houses in Chicago.
Outstanding Dinner as usual at Mastro's. Our favorite place to celebrate and special occasion. Food was excellent ...great steaks an sides...sweet potato fries were outstanding. Great wine list with plenty to choose from. Upstairs was much more quiet and better for conversation at dinner. Stephanie our waitress was outstanding....one of the best we ever had at ANY restaurant. She was an excellent listener and made our experience at Mastro's one of the best ever. We celebrated our sons 21st birthday. It will be memorable for him based on the great food and excellent service.
A good steakhouse, but rather pricey for the value received. My friend and I went for dinner before a Blackhawks' game and the woman at the guest desk was rude to my friend because he was wearing "sports gear", and we wouldn't be allowed in the main dining room. Really rubbed me the wrong way, along with the steep prices. I can say I experienced dinner at Mastro's, but it will be my last time I go there.
First time at Mastro's Steakhouse. My partner and I were both extremely disappointed at many aspects of this high-end restaurant.
We had made a reservation days in advance, and the restaurant staff in fact called the day before to confirm. Given that, I would have expected them to be ready to seat us when we arrived promptly at the appointed time - which was an early seating with little chance of "slow diners" failing to vacate. No such luck. We did our part, why can't these restauranteurs do theirs?
And when finally summoned (past a chaotic bar area with mediocre but loud band), we were given seating with one chair into the main aisle - which meant I was continually bumped by staff and other customers as they went by. I foresaw the issue and suggested to the host that this might not be the best, but couldn't get them to find a different table.
I will note that this is the first time in my life that I've paid well over $300 for a dinner for two - in which we had only two mixed drinks and NO wine. With tip it was pushing $400. Absurd.
The restaurant was incredibly chaotic and loud, even without the band. It's one of these restaurants that they've designed to "enhance" the noise instead of managing it properly.
For many this should be a deal-breaker - fine dining should NOT inhibit our conversation and limit it to shouts, nor should the waiter be required to shout at the diners. This is a huge fail.
The food was mostly first rate. Oysters on the half-shell as an appetizer were much too small and I wouldn't order again. The steaks were high-quality - one of the best filet mignon's I've ever had. One of the sides we ordered, mushrooms with truffle butter sauce, arrived with no evidence of the (very expensive) truffle butter.
Portions were typically Chicago much-too-large, and we left with a shopping bag of uneaten food as did most in the restaurant.
All in all we wouldn't go here again, and likely not their companion restaurant in Chicago either.
Let me start by saying I've been to Mastro's in Chicago and Las Vegas roughly 8 to 10 times. All my experiences have been Five Star Plus. I've been there for birthdays anniversaries special occasions on numerous times but this past Saturday night was probably one of the worst dining experiences I've ever ever encountered. We had dinner reservations at 9 p.m and we did not get sat till after 10 p.m. With no explanation other than they were busy and waiting for an open table. There were three of us for dinner we each ordered steaks which took over an hour to receive our meals so now it's after 11. When I bit into my steak it was ice cold let me repeat that ice cold like it's been sitting outside for 15 minutes before they brought it to me. My guest then bit into his steak same result. We explain this to our server and she kindly took it off the bill but you would think for a place that was just voted 6th best Steakhouse in Chicago the service and the attention to detail would be much better. Chicago has so many options for steakhouses I can tell you I will never go back to this location. I was always excited to go there and eat but the way we were treated Saturday night was unacceptable.
