Mastro's Steakhouse - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
Waited a while to be seated this is our second time there, this time the food was not great at all, they need to be more courteous with people who have reservations, especially if we get there early , we should not have to wait in the lobby close to 45 minutes. Will not be returning because of it.
As always, we looked forward to our monthly visits. This is however the first time my steak was a bit undercooked and had to be sent back. They were very apologetic and did have to cook it a little more.
The busboy then put all our (four) leftovers in one box. Nooooo. They did correct this and gave us our Butter Cake on the house which was very nice of them.
This will not deter us from coming back monthly (as we live an hour & half away) or visiting Mastros in Orange County & Scottsdale.
Derek, our server is the absolute BEST! Thank you so much
My husband and I both agreed this was without a doubt the best dining experience we’ve ever had. Our server, Chris, was knowledgeable about everything on the menu and very attentive. We had the wagyu tomahawk steak and it was incredible . It had a nice thick char and was cooked to perfection. The steak was served on a sizzling hot plate so it’s actually hot when you eat it, unlike most steak! Our drinks were also fantastic and very unique, though a bit pricey. Overall a truly wonderful experience.
The restaurant week menu was great. The service was great, but we could tell they were trying to flip the table after only an hour of us being there. After we ordered our second glass of wine (after he put down the bill without even asking us if we were done) he left us alone. However, too much alone as he never came around again until we asked him for the bill. Probably won't come there again till restaurant week next year b/c looking at the main menu the prices were very high for the same food you can get in so many other great restaurants in Chicago.
Overall, we had a good time. My event started off rocky with a very obnoxious hostess (Sherry) - but, I got pass that since it was my birthday. The seating arrangements were very tight, it was extremely crowded - but, it was a Saturday night plus Restaurant Week. Our server (Tim) was nice - but, it did take him 30 minutes to finally get our food order and I had 8:15 pm reservations. This location was nice, but I prefer the staff in Las Vegas - perhaps in Las Vegas they appeal to the fact that its Vegas and they aren’t aware who they are providing service too.
MASTROS gave my date and I the total dining experience! The ambiance, food and drinks (dream berry) are grade A. I will definitely dine again mainly because of the level of service we received from our waiter Omar- he was outstanding total rockstar in fine dining.
We went during Restaurant Week (this is our 4th time to the restaurant). Unfortunately they sat us in a room with no view to the exterior. It was very dull and the food portion was very small for $44/meal and no sides!
The wait staff was very good. The bread service was excellent. The warm-butter cake was not good! Avoid this desert.
Overall a great evening! We took advantage of the Restaurant Week menu. It was a great way to try a few different items...that were all delicious! Our waitress, whose name escapes me right now, was excellent as well. This was our first trip, but will not be our last!
Excellent, excellent, excellent!! Went during Chicago Restaurant Week and the pre-fixe menu was great. Only gripe is sides WEREN’T included in the pre-fixe.
The bread is phenomenal!!
I also had the french onion soup, filet mignon, brussel sprouts, sautéed spinach and garlic mash. All phenomenal!
But the highlight of the meal was the Warm Butter Cake with vanilla ice cream and raspberry drizzle was orgasmic, for lack of a more befitting word! I won’t even try to describe it, just go try it!
Overall, the experience was great. Pricey of course, but totally worth it if you can swing it. The drinks were also pretty good, and they had a live band when we went on Wednesday night. Enjoy!!
Worst steak I've had in Chicago! Thought I was going to get a 6 oz filet and instead got a 4 oz hamburger. How can the kitchen at one of the most well-known restaurants in Chicago not be able to cook a steak to medium temperature? When I talked to a manager, he offered me a free dessert or drink on my next visit. No way I'll be able to redeem that, cause I won't be back. After a $250 bill all I could think about was all of the other places I could have had a better steak for less money. Joe's, RPM, or even Ruth's Chris blows this overrated joint out of the water. What a ripoff!
Came for restaurant week. The servers attitude when we wanted to see the restaurant week menu changed to from chipper to obviously disappointed. That starts off the dinner with a bad taste in your mouth. Besides that the food was incredible and I would recommend French onion soup, the filet minion, and butter cake. The creamed corn and macaroni and cheese were good but not must try items. If I ever get to come to Chicago and have a night w the Mrs without any kids I would go to Mastro’s.
