Great as always
This is usually my favorite go-to steak restaurant, but this visit was disappointing. Some of the sides were burned (the mushrooms and brussel sprouts). Fortunately we were comped for the appetizer that had hair in it, but overall we weren’t pleased. Our server was attentive in the beginning of the meal but then seemed to forget about us and barely came around after receiving our food. I use to recommend Mastro’s to all of my friends and family, but I will no longer go.
Checked in at 9:22 for my 9:30 reservation but was sat down at 9:45. Host rudely checked us in for a later time that I had & When I tried to show that my reservation was at 9:30 the host turned her head and paid no attention to my message. Restaurant was also extremely nosey that it was hard to even talk.
No impressed with the customer service. We had confirmed reservations at 9:15. When we got there at 9:11, we were greeted by a rude blonde female hostess who told us that we would have to wait past our reservation. When my husband asked if we could go to the bar, the blonde woman pauses and rudely replied yes. 15 minutes passed and we saw 2 parties come in behind us, greetly warmly by the hostess, and were immediately seated. We left and opted to leave go to another restaurant nearby.
The food here is the saving grace to the experience we had at Maestros. Food is awesome! Service and ambiance is a bit lacking.
Arrived 20 minutes before our 8:45 reservation and went to check in with the hostess. She didn't acknowledge me for at least 30 seconds and then when I told her I was checking in, she mumbled it would be closer to 8:45 before we were seated. That's fine. I get it. She didn't offer us to go to the bar and check out the live music or anything so we just stayed in the lobby area and waited. At 9pm, I approached the hostess stand again and asked a different women to check on our table. She told me that I would have to wait until the hostess got back bc she didn't know what was going on. A few minutes later the hostess returned and they whispered and pointed to us and then the hostess came up to me and said "okay" and walked toward the restaurant. I had no idea if that meant to follow her or what! It was so awkward.
The dining room was incredibly crowded and loud. We had to yell to have a conversation. On top of that, our table was in a main aisle so every few minutes someone walked through and bumped my husbands chair. It took 15 minutes for a drink order and another 10 to actually get our drinks. Our waiter was great but clearly had too many tables. Our dinner entrees were delivered to the table next to us, as were our desserts. The food was delicious! My husband got the bone-in ribeye and I got sea bass. Both were amazing. The twice-baked potato and wild mushrooms were heavenly! And don't miss the dessert! Key lime pie was delicious.
The next day, I went to eat my leftovers and was really irritated to see that my potato was replaced with someone else's leftover steak. I really wanted that potato, but felt bad for the person who didn't get their $50 steak.
Overall, the food is amazing, but we probably wouldn't return based on the other factors. For $265, I feel like we could have had a better experience elsewhere.
45 minutes after our reservation we were finally seated. Restaurant was clearly oversold and staff at front desk showed zero empathy. Once we were seated the server showed great personality, but we had to flag her down for drinks and had to ask for water and bread. The meal was great, but for high end fare and prices one expects high end service.
Our sever, Kyle was outstanding.
Easily the best lobster bisque I've ever had.
Great steak (I had the bone in KC strip), and a very vibrant atmosphere.
Sit in the bar area if possible
The restaurant has a fun and energetic feel with live music that was surprisingly comfortable to have a conversation around. Jeffery, our waiter, was incredible to say the least; fun, attentive and VERY knowledgeable. The meal and drinks were perfect, very bite was fantastic. Even the other tables around us were intermingling and thoroughly enjoying themselves! We cannot wait to go back!
Check in desk was rude, seemed stressed out but once we were seated the service was great
Impeccable service. Justin was amazing! The food was delicious! The whole experience was worth every penny.
Had a blast. Thanks for being so accommodating as my friend was extremely late.
Best steaks in Chicago. Wonderful service. Incredible mambo salad.
Absolutely amazing! Great service and atmosphere! Beyond amazing food with a good portion size! Will be returning.
Mastro's is still the best Steakhouse, be it Chicago, Las Vegas, even now after they've recently opened in Fort Lauderdale
I chose Mastro’s for my birthday dinner this year, and I’m happy that I did. Everything was first rate, the service in particular. We took all our servers suggestions, and she did not let us down. The not-on/the-menu bubbling Cosmo, the lobster mashed potatoes, the amazing Bone-in Ribeye... all were delicious. This is a great place for a celebration, or just wonderful evening out.
Three of us dined at Mastro's early on a Wednesday evening and the overall experience was very good. Dining service provided by Stefanie was outstanding and she was very helpful in selecting our dining options. Oysters Rockefeller were meh and we all agreed we have had much better. The remainder of our menu selections were excellent including the fresh oysters, lobster bisque and the lobster appetizer. Steaks were perfectly prepared and delicious. With that said I have to comment on our experience at the bar. We arrived late afternoon prior to the dining room opening and went into the bar for cocktails. Approximately 6 other customers at the bar and all had drinks. We sat at the bar about 5 feet from where the bartender was standing and he was talking to a customer. We sat and waited for the bartender for approximately 5 minutes before he came to take our order. He couldn't stop his conversation serve us and return to his discussion? You let three customers sit and wait and then act like you are doing us a favor by taking our drink order? Not a major incident but come on, $70 for three drinks and you are treated like you are a nuisance?
My wife and I went to this restaurant for my birthday. We had an excellent time here. The food was exquisite and service brilliant.
It's not the cheapest place but it's to be expected from one of Chicago's finest steak restaurants.
I enjoyed the live music here but everything else was not so good for me. The quality of the food was not worth the $500 I spent. The steaks weren't seasoned well, the mac and cheese was very bland, the onion rings tasted like they were cooked in old oil, the appetizers were few especially if your not a fan of RAW but the appetizers we did try were gross. The mashed potatoes and asparagus were ok but not too fancy. I also asked for a special birthday surprise for my brother that most restaurants do with no charge, they charged for it here and even included 3 cakes when 1 would have been enough especially if I knew it wasnt complimentary. The drinks were good as well but pricey. They have several bus boys & managers interrupting your meal by grabbing things constantly from your table. I seen them more then my waiter. I wasn't to enthused about them serving us our food either without asking, they just start putting your sides on your plate, nice gesture but being one that dont like my food touched, I could have went without. This was my first visit to Mastros and Im certain my last.
Christopher was our server. He was attentive and because of a food delay, he had a significant amount of our cost removed from our bill. Great food and excellent service, we will be back!
This is my second dining experience at Maestro. My first experience 4 years ago was phenomenal! Food and service was impeccable. My second dining experience, last week, was good but not as polished and exciting. I felt the side dishes were pretty basic with no major pizazz to the tongue. We ordered the customized seafood tower which I believe is kind of pricy. Considering we had 6 people in our party, I didn't think the tower provided enough to accommodated everyone. My steak, 12oz boneless filet was outstanding! Also, the dessert were amazing. Best pecan pie I have ever tasted. Overall, the experience was good but not as great as hoped and expected.
I've had many a meal at Mastro's - tonight just wasn't their night. When you're a steakhouse, you have to get the steak right, at all costs. On this night, my wife order a bone in fillet. The first came out significantly over. The replacement steak was still moo-ing.
To the managers credit, he did comp a bottle of wine which was a nice gesture.
Hopefully they can get the issues figured out in the kitchen because the butter cake is still out of this world!
This may have been a better experience had my group been smaller. I went For my birthday and was very excited, as this was my first time there. Due to the larger party (10 people), and I presume the Guaranteed gratuity, my server was not as attentive to our table as he was the other guest. I watched Him offer two other tables complimentary dessert and was extremely attentive to their needs. I actually left the dinner feeling slighted.
This was our first visit to Mastro's after having a friend recommend it to us. We have a great dinner and were very please with our food choices. We will definitely recommend to others.
I consider myself a bit of a foodie yet I never leave reviews either negative nor positive on any social media platform. At the most I post pictures on Instagram but that is about it. I have been to Mastro’s Chicago countless times and have always enjoyed it along with several other locations in other cities. The food is always great and the service is always consistent. This time in particular I happened to be dining with my newborn child who was sleeping in a car carrier. Upon making the online reservation I specified we would be dining with baby in tow yet when we arrived there was an older female host with blonde hair that seemed completely caught off guard and rude about the fact that we were dining with a baby and out right made us feel not welcomed. Immediately another much more polite host stepped in and sat us at a table. We live in the city and plan to dine with our child when In reason (i.e. 5:30 pm) He slept the entire time and didn’t make a peep nor did he inconvenience anyone. The rest of the staff was great and respectful. It is in my opinion that at minimum this rude host needs to be trained to at least hide her facial expressions when she doesn’t agree with a guests dining decisions and as my mother would say she needs an attitude adjustment.
We had a wonderful experience per usual. This is one of the best steakhouses in Chicago. Steaks and sea bass were cooked to perfection. Kyle was our waiter and he did a phenomenal job. He was very professional and attentive throughout the entire night. Highly recommend!!
Loved it all!! Staff was great from the hostess to the server. Table for 2 was cozy and inviting.
Dining with Corporate Clients = NO
I dine with Corporate Clients each week in Chicago.
I recommend you take your clients elsewhere.
Food - the restaurant messed up our order. All was EXTREMELY SLOW.
This too happened during my last visit.
Food - My client's steak & two of the entrees at the table were cold ? Sorry- a hot plate does not make up for over and under cooked meat. This is my expectation at a Chicago sports bar.
I really wanted to like the evening at this restaurant. I should have read the other reviews.
A DOZEN FAR BETTER steak choices in Chicago.
We love Mastro's. And we go alot. We were a little disappointed in the service only cause our waiter didn't seem to come around to ask if we needed anything more often (mostly drinks).
The food and wait staff are phenomenal. However, it’s way too dark in the dining area. Everyone including the staff used flashlights from their cellphone or jacket pocket to read the menu.
Phenomenal as always
My bday was great
Mastros seems to have gone down hill. Service was exceptionally slow and not present. Bathroom attendants are so antiquated-no need. And if you have no dress code where sweats and tees are ok in dining room-why have that?
Jason, our server was absolutely fantastic!! Our entire evening there was fantastic, from the greeting to appetizers to dinner. We enjoyed dinner so much we decided to have another drink at the bar with the live music.
So amazing!! Lobster bisque is a must😋
good food, great service, pricey but worth it. We had early reservation upstairs and glad we did, it gets loud.
Everything was lovely, however, we did feel a bit rushed toward the end of dinner. I received cake for my birthday, but we kept seeing our server peek around the corner to see if we were done. Maybe allow guests to enjoy themselves, or let them know ahead of the meal that they only have a certain amount of time to dine. Other than that, everything was delicious.
The one thing that did not make this a five-star meal was that I was still eating and one of the servers came over to take my dates plates away.
This is not the type of service you would expect from Mastro’s, but there it is.
On several times we were interrupted it because we were still picking out our food, the bus people wanted to clear our table.
Made it very awkward and uncomfortable to encourage us to stay and continue to enjoy the ambience and potentially order another bottle of wine-because the ambience was not the same as what we previously were enjoying.
Awesome. Waitress was particularly attentive
Always a great experience as I have come here to celebrate birthdays as well as other special occasions. Very warm atmosphere. Excellent hosts and wait staff.
