Mastro's Steakhouse - Chicago
Book your next event with us
We came in first the first time last Friday. The food was amazing fresh and cooked exactly to order. Our waiter Jeff was extremely knowledgeable had several suggestions had in depth knowledge of the entire menu drink, food, and dessert. He was entertaining and really kind to us throughout the night. Other than the music being extremely loud that night it was by far an experience I wont forget!
The food was good.
The service was exceptional.
The experience was unforgettable.
Jeff, our server, was the pinnacle.
This is a place of BIG steaks. Not great food, however. I ordered the tomato and onion salad. The beefsteak tomato slices were cold. Any chef knows that tomatoes loose flavor when chilled. The onion slice was too thick and included the stem of the onion. Far too hot to enjoy and hard to cut. The prices were high (not shocking) but too high for the value.
The waiter was very attentive and the room dark but well decorated.
I will not be returning to Mastro's.
Incredibly snooty, VERY dark, and uber expensive, even for a business dinner. The medium-rare ordered steak came out so rare that it was cold to the taste and the additional heat didn’t improve the flavor.
So many other great steak places in Chicago that you can easily skip this one.
I feel like when I make a reservation, I should be seated at said time, especially if the restaurant is mostly empty. I had 8pm reservations and wasn’t seated until 8:20. We were sat upstairs with an 8 top circle (so it’s not like they had to push tables together) and were the only ones in the semi private dining room aside from one other family. We stayed until closing and no one else sat up there... so why did we have to wait 20 minutes to be seated? While the waiter was great, the hostess was not. I also had to send my steak back to be cooked longer. I asked for medium well and definitely had blood on my plate. I get much better service in all aspects at the Mastros in Beverly Hills & in Vegas. I’ll send my friends to those locations instead. *Shrug*.
Made a reservation for 7p on Father’s Day. Sat at the bar until 7p arrived. Taken to our seats which had plenty elbow room. Lobster bisque was the best I ever had. I was really done after that. I then ordered a 6 ounce filet with the creamed corn and potatoes. Everything including our waitress was incredible. Portion sizes could be shared with 4 people. A bit on the pricey side, but worth it.
Food was 10 out of 10. Eat the food, it is good. If the food was not good I would not tell you. Then you would eat it and it wouldn’t be good.
I took my husband here for his birthday. The food and drinks were great!
What an experience! The Wagyu Tomahawk steak was cooked to perfection, the Oysters (our first time trying them ever) were amazing, and the Lobster was beyond fresh. The butter cake was by far the best dessert I’ve had in some time at any restaurant. Overall, it’s a must try in my opinion.
Overall a very lovely dinner and experience. Only minor disappointment was the lobster bisque....great flavor, but not a sliver of lobster was found in the bisque. Steak was scrumptious...seafood tower with shrimp, claws, etc...delectable. Ambiance and service were great.
I was excited to take take my girlfriend to Mastro’s for a special occasion and we were looking forward to a wonderful meal. However as soon as we were seemingly carelessly seated in the lounge area to eat, I was disturbed by a relatively large shard of glass that I almost cut my hand on. I informed my waiter, who walked up shortly after my realization, and he quickly moved us one table over to start the process of taking our order. My date was quite offended and wanted to leave but I did not want to ruin our night so I begged her to stay and enjoy the meal. We did enjoy our food and the waiter gave great service but it was hard for us to hear each other speak in at our table and my date was pretty uncomfortable from the Rocky start to our night. I would’ve hoped for a much better experience and I hope it is much better if I choose to dine at Mastro’s in the future.
Omar was a delight!!!! Really nice atmosphere, and great food!
My server Nikki continually pressed me in an attempt to make me buy food. It made me extremely uncomfortable and frustrated. I tipped her 20% because that's the right thing to do, but she ruined my dining experience. She was no where to be found when I needed her but whenever she wasn't needed, she was by my side telling me I should get a dessert or a drink.
The place was great. Food was great. The only person ruining my experience was my server.
It was a close friends birthday and I wanted to make sure she enjoyed herself. I wanted to make sure she smiled because she has never enjoyed her birthday because she doesn’t celebrate it. But, I wanted to show her something different. Show her how she should be treated. The ambiance was amazing. The live artist performance was amazing. The staff made you feel appreciated and of course the food was impeccable. We enjoyed every bit of it. They brought her out a bday cake dish and it was great. It’s on the pricey side, but everything in there was worth the money spent. I will definitely be back!!!
The front of the house was rude and disorganized when we arrived. We went on a Sunday evening at 7:15. There were
Many open tables and they made us wait about 10 minutes
While they played around with the computers as if they
Did not know where to seat us. No apologies, just
Rudeness including from the Manager. Very disappointing.
Excellent service. Surprisingly small steak when someone ordered the small fillet...didn’t look good on a large dinner size plate. Everything else was very delicious tasting and looking!
We went there for my sisters Birthday the food was good. They give you a lot of food that you can share. The only thing I didn’t like was that it was so COLD!!!! We really couldn’t enjoy ourselves because we was so cold. Next time I will have to bring a jacket.
The entire meal was outstanding. The portions are generous.
We had the best time at Mastro's! Our waitress, Lauren, was awesome. We ordered steak, halibut, brussels, and shoe string fries, all of which were amazing and the portions were very generous.
It was amazing
Great experience with a really great staff that helped make our anniversary special.
Great meal! Steak was cooked perfectly and all sides were outstanding.
The restaurant was great with polite staff that treated you like someone special. My party and I had a wonderful time celebrating our friends birthday. I definitely be returning soon.
Everything here was fabulous. The food was amazing. It's true what they say about the butter cake....it really is that good. The cream corn....also really good. The petite filet melted in your mouth. The tables were a little close together in the lounge so there wasn't much room to move around. The service was good - our waiter seemed a little overwhelmed as he was always in a rush to leave the table.
Service was incredible, food was amazing and the ambiance was impeccable.
So happy I chose Mastro’s! Healthy pour for my Manhattan, delicious bone in fillet, and exceptional service!!
The food, wine and the service were all super nice!
My wife made are reservations 8 days in advance, it was my Mother's 85th birthday. We arrived at 7:40 pm, the reservation was for 7:45pm. They walked us upstairs, never mentioning the elevator. So my mother walked up the stairs. When we arrived upstairs, there was no table for us. We stood there confused, frustrated, and disappointed. After 5 minutes, we were told there was a table downstairs, so we went back down. This time we saw (not them) saw the elevator and took it. To say the least, this was not a "happy birthday" experience.
Ironically enough, my wife and I had our first date here, and try to come back for our anniversary every year. Can't see us returning any time soon....
This is a fantastic restaurant with great service and the food is always consistently great.
The great food made up for the lack of ambiance. Would for sure return for another dinner.
The food was mediocre, too salty and overpriced. The ambiance was like a night club, not classy at all. Would never go again.
Awesome! Steak was great. Music was a bonus.
Amazing corner booth. Perfect night, great butter cake!
Waiter was not attentive, waiter seemed miffed when we asked for him to open a bottle of wine that we brought. Then when we went to the bar after dinner our waitress was also elusive. Although the food and ambience was good, our experience was ruined by the service or lack there of.
Service not as good as it has been. We were ignored and not attended to. Poured our own wine from
The bottle which is unacceptable. Food was still
Ok except the butter cake has gone downhill.
The ambiance was a bit dated. I felt the decor could have used some update. The food quality was not that spectacular for the price. I had the 8 oz Filet with stuffed crab mushrooms. Mushrooms were over cooked. The plate was too large for the food dwarfing my meal.
The seafood tower that we buildt was very expensive and only had lobster - crab and shrimps. My son who is 5 yrs old ordered mac and cheese and the serving size was big enough to serve 6 people?
Attention to detail was not there.
Everyone in the restaurant was focus on getting more money out of us
We showed up early to an empty restaurant. We waited 45 mins and told to order drinks Then we were asked to be seated next to virtually the only other couple in the restaurant ok no
Then pressured for more drinks
The bone in ribeye was worse than Prime.
Then the valet tried to scam us out of a 20
How bad could it be.
My life partner and we’re in Chicago to see Hamlet and spend time during the holiday weekend. We purchased a vacation package at a fundraiser and a gift card to the restaurant was included. It did not disappoint. As the reviews said, food was delicious and butter cake was amazing. There was much too much food for us to finish. The sides are shared but there’s enough for 4 people. We both got fish—salmon and sea bass. If we go back we will only order one main dish and have another couple join us or just enjoy the live music, drinks and appetizers at the bar. When you’re traveling without a place to store or heat food, it can be a costly waste.
Great, as always!
With so many steakhouses to choose from in Chicago, this one stands out. Service was excellent and food as promised delivered as an ensemble. Great experience.
