Mastro's Steakhouse - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
We came from the NW Suburbs because it's a favorite spot and well worth the train and uber ride. Omar, our server, was attentive and a lot of fun. It was a Friday night, with several large parties, so the atmosphere was energetic and loud. The food and drinks were on point. We'll be back soon.
Amazing food and service, the only thing I wasn’t happy about was getting charged for a birthday cake that we didn’t order, it was my boyfriends birthday but he hates cake so I was a little upset when they brought him it for dessert and then charged me for it. I could have let him order what he wanted from the dessert menu if I knew I was being charged....
Mastros is by far my favorite steak place. I have been to many of the best steak places around the country and Mastros Chicago has it all. Live Music, Stiff Martinis, AMAZING STEAK, and the best sides of any steakhouse anywhere (Lobster Mashed Potatoes and King Crab Gnocchi). Great appetizers too.
Overall the food quality at Mastro’s is excellent. Sitting in the bar is noisier and more lively ambience. I prefer it to their main room. The appetizers are large enough for two. Enjoyed the lobster cocktail which is an entire lobster served cracked and chilled. Their French onion soup is awesome, a bit salty however I enjoy it that way. Tried the Apsen boneless ribeye, very tender, somewhat fatty and delicious. Topped off with the cherry crisp. Overall the service could be better for the price for the meal. I feel our server was over sat with tables. And we took the brunt of being a table for 2 l, compared to his 6 top. Typically the service is all over You. Love the love music in the bar. Great place for any occasion, just be willing to spend the $$$$
I've been to many steakhouses in Chicago but have never really been compelled to go to Mastro's. I finally decided to give Mastro's a shot and I was completely impressed by both the food and service! The wait staff was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and attentive throughout the entire meal. All of our food was cooked to perfection and the portions were quite sizeable. I particularly loved the shared sides we selected to accompany our steaks - lobster mash potatoes, Brussel sprouts, and the mac & cheese. Overall, Mastro's surprisingly climbed my list of top steakhouses in Chicago and I cannot wait to dine there again.
We arrived before our reservation time . We asked to sit in lounge to watch a football game . Our waitress was pretty good . I clearly told her that I wanted a petite filet and she brought me two 12 oz instead. My son ordered one . She kind of disappeared towards the end of dinner . It was almost as if we paid our bill . Then finally she came around . The steak was good , not fantastic . The sautéed shrimp , spinach and Mac and cheese were good .
We had our belated holiday dinner here and it could not have been better. The food was amazing, the wine excellent and the service provided by Stephanie ( our server) was beyond compare. She could not have been better, very helpful and unobtrusive. We had a great time. Then some of our group migrated over to the bar to listen to the band.
We were in town for Hamilton and made our reservation a week in advance. We knew it was on the more pricey side and still decided to treat ourselves. Foot was terrific. Wine recommendations were spot on. Wait staff could have been more prompt especially at the end of our dining and the dim lighting was annoying because many nearby tables used their flashlights on their phones to look at the menu. The dessert did not disappoint. The warm butter cake was a hit! Next time we our in town we would like to try a couple things on the side dish menu we didn’t last time.
The Food was amazing. The Steak was cooked perfectly for me. The Oysters Rockefeller were good. They add bacon and it kind of overpowered the usual oyster Rockefeller flavor. The lobster bisque was really good with big chunks of lobster. The twice baked potato was great and so was the Gorgonzola mac and cheese. The service was good but sometimes we were waiting a little too long for the server to come back and check on us.
Mastro's is one of our top places for a nice dinner with friends. We had another wonderful meal NYD. Split the 33oz bone-in Ribeye - excellent! Truffle mushroom medley, brussel sprouts and loaded baked potato were all tasty. Cheesecake was excellent NY style. Skip the creme brulee - it was too thick, not smooth as I'm used to. Service was A+, no complaints. Will definitely be back!
We spent NYE here and it was fun with always great food however it was our special wedding anniversary that night and usually a lovely dessert arrives with anniversary wishes on the plate but to our disappointment our anniversary was never acknowledged.
We were very disappointed.
Maybe the restaurant changed its dessert policy.
Terrible experience. The food was awful. The first steak (12 oz) was supposed to be done medium well. It was burnt. As a replacement, I asked for an 8 oz steak medium well thinking it would be easier to cook. It came out well done. I ate less than half of it. I will most likely not return.
We are frequent steak restaurant diners in chicago and decided on new years to go back to a staple Mastros, which in the past has proven to be amazing, but we are extremely disappointed with our experience last night. The service was good but the food was terrible! First everything came out at warp speed. It seemed as though they just wanted to turn the table over quickly because it was new years even though we came at 5pm. The cocktail sauce provided for the shrimp cocktail was almost inedible it was so filled with horseradish. We ordered the crab cake and the truffle crab gnocchi and bother were so fishy it was inedible. I also ordered a glass of wine and it was horrible as well. We received a gift card and were able to choose our restaurant and chose Mastro's because we assumed it would be amazing considering the cost. We will not be returning there again. Especially with restuarants in Chicago like Bavettes, Chicago Cut, GT Prime, and Gibsons. I will definitely be spending my money elsewhere.
We enjoyed Mastro’s Chicago so much! It was a very cold Chicago night, so we were grateful for the valet service and the coat check. We arrived a little early, and the hostesses were able to seat us right away. We stared off with some Belvedere dirty martinis with blue cheese olives and some Shirley Temples. For dinner, we had the petite filet, the bone in filet 12oz and 18oz, and several delicious sides. We celebrated my daughter’s birthday that night, so they brought out a 5 layer chocolate cake for her with a candle - such a nice touch. We also had the famous butter cake which did not disappoint - yum! Everything was wonderful, but I think I was most impressed with the staff’s professionalism and commitment to service in making us feel like very special guests. We will definitely be back!
Everything was fantastic, service was excellent and food was amazing. Have visited most of the other top steak houses, this one felt more cozy and roomy, you didnt feel like they were trying to squeeze as many folks into the place as some of the others. Would Highly recommend.
