Mastro's Steakhouse - Beverly Hills Ratings and Reviews
No matter how good the food is at a restaurant, when a waiter makes too many mistakes it can ruin the dining experience. Especially when you are spending $300 for two people.
First, I ordered my steak medium and it came out medium rare (closer to the rare side). I mentioned to the waiter that I ordered the steak medium and it was undercooked. He was very nice about it and immediately took it back to get it done right. Unfortunately when I got the steak back it was still medium rare (just slightly further away from the rare side). I gave the restaurant an opportunity to fix the problem and they didn't. I wasn't going to send the food back a third time. The word rare has never come out of my mouth when I order food but when I received the check I noticed that he did write it up as medium rare so I could see where the problem originated from. Oh well, it was a good $60 steak until I got closer to the center.
The drink I ordered was pretty expensive and light on alcohol for the price. That's just compared with most high end restaurants but that's something that just depends on the pourer.
But what really rubbed me the wrong way and I didn't call the restaurant out on it because I was too uncomfortable, was them throwing in a desert that nobody asked for, nobody wanted, and nobody ate. I especially didn't want to see a charge for it in the end. What happened was that we were talking in front of the hostess and she heard that it was my guests birthday a few days before our visit to the restaurant. So she wished him a happy birthday and I guess they brought out a slice of cake with a candle on it because of that. Again, we didn't ask for it. We didn't want it and we didn't eat it and I ended up paying for it only because I wasn't about to argue over a birthday cake in front of my guests.
I have no complaints about the taste or quality of the food but I left with the feeling that I will likely not be the one to suggest going back to Mastro's.
Fantastic food and service. The steaks were perfect, great crab cakes, GET the lobster mac... it's totally decadent and enough for four people. The butter cake is a must. The decor is fine, not spectacular, but it works.
It is loud, even on the first floor, but it did not get really crowded until around 8:30 when we were there.
The only complaint was that the hostess sat us right next to another occupied table, when there were plenty of empty tables with no one adjacent... and they were LOUD. After noting this in my original review, I got a nice call from the GM, and he promised to look at their seating procedures.
It was a great date night for my girlfriend's birthday. I always had dined at Mastro's during special occasions and wanted to create another with my girlfriend. As always, Mastro's has delivered quality food and service at the highest standards. I will be back.
Excellent ! Everything about the dining experience was perfection. We usually dine upstairs which is buzzing, so this time we decided to sit on the ground level as we wanted a bit more quiet and intimate for a birthday celebration, loved it ! The food was quality, really outstanding, including the absolutely divine desserts. The service was 1st class and the manager is top notch. Look forward to returning soon.
We were there for our 2nd wedding anniversary. Was treated beautifully! Amazing food, fantastic server who we shared our story with. This story was obviously listened too as we got a cake with a personalized message on it. So sweet. I love this place, we'll be back for our 3rd!
Food was very good as always. Seating is tight. Service at the downstairs bar is awful. Bartender was very busy and had a bad attitude to go with it. Service at the upstairs bar was slow, but at least they were courteous. The server and other staff were very good.
Service was bad, started from the bar. Sat down for 10mins, no one bothered to serve. Waiter was not all polite, kinda rushing. Served wrong food to the wrong person. Asked for desert menu but waiter didn’t bother to ask what we wanna order. Restroom was filthy. Disappointed at this place that offers steak at $100+!!
Every time I dine in LA at a nice restaurant I tend to say this.... “it was good” but it’s NOT Mastros, I love the food so much and I love the family style side orders portions, service is always GREAT, it’s hard to combine all of these qualities into one same experience so .... to me you are still my number ONE!
Let me start by saying, I've eaten here several times and had superior service. This time however, our server seemed brand new and the fact that we knew the menu better than her was no help. She kept giggling trying to be "cute" but "cute" doesn't cut it when we are paying such high prices. Food was good, but what should have been an amazing Saturday Night, was just another average dining experience with a $500 price tag for 2 people.
This restaurant is the only place where I’ve had the best filet mignon ever. My mom raved about the bread and her crab legs...and my dad and cousin couldn’t stop saying “mm mm mm” to their bone in ribeye. Thank you so much, Molly, for making sure we had a swell time. There was a guy that refilled our drinks and brought out our food...didn’t get a chance to catch his name, but thank you too.
I just wish it weren’t sooooo expensive. Yes the steak is good. Mastro isn’t alone; all the top steakhouses charge exhorbitantly for their food. But beyond the price, we had a really lovely evening. I asked for a quiet table and they seated us at their nicest. It was our anniversary, and they brought us a delicious chocolate layer cake, a card, and all our waiters wished us a happy anniversary. We would, of course, go back.
We were seated promptly, and the waiters were attentive without being overly aggressive. I️ really appreciated that card scanners are now brought directly to the table. My only comment is that the place was a little noisy, especially with the karoke, which makes conversation difficult. Having some way to dampen the noise, perhaps with thicker carpet or heavier drapes, would be nice. The food was outstanding!
Went here for my Birthday. The ambiance is great. The wait was long even with a resv. My food took over 30 mins to come out. My meal was not the best. It was taken off my bill, but my Birthday was ruined & I left hungry and unsatisfied. My Complimentary desert took another 25mins to come out. If your dining here. Saturday night may not be the best time to attend. Extremely busy.
This restaurant has good food, good service, good dessert and good ambience. The only weakness is it is too dark and I noticed there was one older guy almost falling as he cannot see well. I think it shall be brighter overall. We cannot even see the menu. This is the only drawback. Other than this everything else is SUPER. The food portion is so generous and also very yummy. The steak was cooked just right. The lobster soup and onion soup are all SUPER. The lobster mashed potato has lots of lobster meat there. Although this restaurant is not cheap, it is well worth the price though.
First of all, we were aghast when we were being seated at a table for 4 when clearly the reservation was for 6; yes, they were able to fix the situation by extending the leaf table but you can imagine how cramped we were - really??? for the amount of money spent, one would imagine otherwise. the people sitting next to us were not pleased as well - the waiter had to pull the tables to allow us to get in and out of our / their space - not the most pleasant experience. not only were we sooo uncomfortable but haven't you guys realized that this set up is a fire hazard?
We ordered oysters - on the menu it was described as oysters on a half shell - we were not told that they were the size of an escargot!!! we got 3 OK ones, and the 3 were very small!!! what a rip-off!!! yes, presentation was nice as they were out in a tower - i wanted to eat oysters not the ice!!!
The place was crowded hence, the slow service - but we all expected otherwise. Last May, we were at Ruth's Chris - compared with how our dinner was at your restaurant, Ruth's Chris' service was impeccable - we had 3 servers who waited on us. Their wine (for the same price i paid at Mastro's) was 1000% better. btw I was asked numerous times what the occasion was for our dinner, and of course I said it's my husband's birthday. Mind you, i still had to ask our waiter if we were getting a birthday cake - shouldn't that have been a given?
Our table was in the worse area. My sister’s seat kept in getting in the way of the waiters. Felt like the restaurant was trying to fit as many people as they can and the ambiance and service suffered. Couldn’t have a conversation at our table cause it was so loud. Staff was great and food was as always wonderful, but I know I’ll never go back to this location ever again.
We love Mastros and have been going there for years and years. However, they now have a new bill system that doesn't leave you a check. The server actually comes over to you with your bill on an iPad and the server holds it in front of you which is very awkward. You really can't go over the bill with them standing over you AND the part that really bothered me was that the server put in a 20% tip for himself without asking permission from the guest. And once again, with the server awkwardly standing in front of you holding the digital bill, chances are most people aren't going to look at their bill and change the tip amount if the service wasn't up to par, which is wasn't this past time, yet I felt pressured and was not going to ask him to change his tip percentage.
First time here in L.A. and your restaurant.
I dined here by myself and ordered a bit just for myself. I've attached the bill.
Is it usual to be sat without a menu or being greeted for ten minutes? I had a nice man in a white jacket finally come to me.
The waitress was cordial but never poured my wine or come around except to give me the bill when I was not even done with my meal.
Loved the food. I was expecting better service after hearing all the hype.
Hope this helps you improve in the future.
