Mastro's Ocean Club - Scottsdale Ratings and Reviews
Our server was Nick and he provided outstanding service. For the value the food was overpriced. However, there was a shell in the lobster mashed potatoes and the manager took it off the bill. You can clearly tell the staff is all about taking care of the customer.
During the Waste Management Open you need to manage how many people are allowed in to bar. It became an upscale Mosh pit. Also a fire hazard. I have been there many times over the years and the influx of people overwhelmed your wait staff. They did a great job considering but it was a bit of a cluster.
The Ocean Club doesn’t disappoint, you pretty much get what you’ve come to expect. The service was impeccable! The food was very good. The price...hopefully you have room on your credit card. The noise level can get pretty high so casual conversation can be a bit strained.
We were seated right on time, so no problem there, as opposed to other recent reviews.
Overall a fabulous experience but it does come at a cost.
I wish I could remember our waiter's name now, because he was amazing. I do remember that he was training another waiter named Austin, who is going to do a great job for Mastro's. It was our first visit ever to a Mastro's restaurant and it did not disappoint. The only issue was that we weren't hungrier! Thank you to our waiter for a great meal and for the complimentary butter cake!
I was a little disappointed that my escargot was not hot; it was barely warm. Nothing special about it. Many other restaurants have a cheese topping, but this dish was rather boring and not warm enough for me to consider ordering again.
After my husband ordered a new york strip, the waiter suggested the " NY instead. He took the waiter's advice and ordered the "organic" new york strip. It was not as good as the regular new york strip. I think the waiter was trying to "save us money", but the price difference was not worth the quality and taste difference.
On 1/27 I had a reservation for over a month for a special bridal event. I brought in 11 ladies for dinner that had all flown in from Seattle. We were all looking forward to this as our fine dining experience. When we approached the restaurant there was a mother and daughter that were African America crying out front over a patron making racial slurs and the staff at Mastros allowed him to stay. That was very disturbing to my group. Then we were seated. At first everything was fine and we ordered some drinks. Then after a longer period of time we ordered appetizers and full dinners. Long story short we were there 2 hours and 15 minutes and our food never came out. The manager said he would comp our drinks but that was all he could do. I suggested a gift card for the bride. He said the “systems were down”, so he couldn’t do anything. . We never received any food that evening and left with the bride to be and the bridal party starving and upset. Also everyone noticed that every other table surrounding us had been served all night. It was completely unacceptable and everyone in our party is still very upset. We all understand that “systems go down” or maybe the order actually got lost and that was an excuse, but what ever happened to the concept of then writing it down and handing it the chefs to rush our order out? Overall awful experience.
My sister's 65th birthday celebration. Excellent service at the bar. Excellent table service as well - a nod to Duke and his great service! Chopped salad was a little disappointing, as was the bone marrow; twin lobster tails were fantastic! Unfortunately, I became very ill from the crab cocktail (I believe it was this item). Did not even make it home before becoming ill. Called the restaurant to let them know what happened and asked to speak to a manager and was told the manager would call back as they had not yet arrived at the restaurant. I did tell the woman who answered the phone what happened and let her know I didn't 'want' anything from the restaurant after she asked me how they could make it up, but it would have been nice if the manager had made the call
Cosmopolitan ordered in the bar was awful with an overwhelming orange taste, too much cranberry and NO hint of vodka. The shrimp cocktail was limp with a rubbery, odd texture. Casear salad was too fishy. Filet's were tough and stringy. Bernaise sauce had no flavor. Twice backed potato offered an unappealing 1/4 inch glob of cheese on top and some odd tasting bacon. Dining room is gloomy and not well lit. The server and his assistant were very attentive and nice. Overall a very bad dining experience. Even with a $200 gift card, we will not be back.
As expected. The service was excellent and the food was good, typical very high-end steakhouse/seafood restaurant. The food was very well done served on very hot plates.
Pricey but not as bad as I thought it would be.
Biggest issue is the noise level. Very difficult to carry on a conversation once the place filled up, which it did
Would go back for a special occasion.
We were out celebrating our daughters 25th birthday, so this was an important evening. She had not dined here before and was excited after all I told her. I went online to check the menu to see how much or what had changed since I’d been here last and to check the reviews. The reviews were so bad that I tried to switch reservations but my other picks were not open on a Monday. So here is what happened. We arrived a couple- literally 2 minutes late and feared we’d be sitting for another 45 min due to our tardiness as suggested in a review but were seated immediately. Our server Nick was amazing. He advised us as to how the portions were for each item we ordered and let us know what he thought we should share. A big problem I’ve had going there before was I was sold everything on the menu, ending up with a $400.00 dinner bill and a lot of very expensive food to go. We had a bottle of ZD Chardonnay which Nick poured throughout the evening. An art that I am seeing less of. My daughter had the lobster bisque which was a very hearty portion and had a very nice rich and smoky quality and lots of lobster-again a surprise. I had the chopped salad which I usually order my dressing on the side but I was not disappointed. It was perfect. Again, a big portion and for some, could be shared. We had oysters on the half shell, Kumamoto’s to be exact, that were fresh and sweet. Absolutely perfect. Again this was in contrary to a review that said they were very small and tasteless. We had the special of Madagascar jumbo prawns and were advised to share it as they were huge. It was more like a lobster tail and delicious. We were unable to eat the whole thing but it was worth it. Didn’t really need a side but we ordered the roasted brussel sprouts and they were a take away item also. We had the butter cake for dessert and I could have just had that and been in heaven! The next day the restaurant called to thank us for dining with them. Monday night fluke? I hope not.
We had 7:15 pm reservations, and the place was severely overbook. We kept being lied to about the wait. We were kept being offered champagne which I was not interested in. Spoke to manager got no satisfaction except more lies about people ready to leave. Waited an additional 35 minutes to be seated. Have been to this restaurant many times before. Management team over their heads. Will never go back to this Mastro's again.
Horrible experience. We had reservations and waited an hour. Then we got put in the bar area. No one came to take our order for a half an hour. We finally left at 10:30 pm without ever seeing a waiter or eating. I complained to the manager and he was rude. Totally full of themselves without anything to back it up.
Had a reservation at 8:15 for 8 and got there at 7:50. Didn’t get our table til 9:25. Dinner served at 10:15 and left at 11:30. Not sure the point of having a reservation when waiting for more than an hour. People walked in and had a table. I guess if you are from there then they are more important.
