Mastro's Ocean Club - Scottsdale Ratings and Reviews
Great experience. If I could recommend 1 thing.... when people get oysters the person shucking them should judge them for size and price. Point being the oyster should be bigger than the fork you eat it with. Nothing I can get over but for the price it should be a nice size.
Mastro's is typically wonderful. It is expensive, but has delicious seafood and steaks with excellent service. This dinner was a date night with my wife and we had set reservations a few nights early on a Saturday night. It was our first time at this Mastro's - The Ocean Club Scottsdale. Upon checking in the hostess said she would get us when our table was ready. 20 minutes later I checked with her again and she indicated we would have our table soon. 25 minutes later still no table, but we did notice a number of other individuals waiting as well. At this point we complained that the wait was excessively long and another hostess said she would seat us immediately. At this point the dinner was very good, but service was not quite as attentive as it usually is for a Mastro's. It was a busy Saturday night.
My real issue with our experience that evening was how disorganized the check in and table seating was done. The hostess was apathetic about the waiting guests, and and didn't communicate updates or the situation to most of the waiting parties. Popular restaurants can have a delay and wait on busy weekend nights. If they do, they should set expectations and keep the customers informed; especially for a restaurant of this category. The front check-in staff seemed unprepared and unprofessional.
Mastro's really is a great experience, and we've eaten at different ones several times. They have always provided and excellent meal. If you eat at the Ocean Club on busy night go in with the expectation that you may have front check-in employees that are not attentive, and your will have to push your reservation along to get your table.
The restaurant is pretty and has a nice ambiance. The service was superb. The chopped salad, which we shared, was visually unappealing, overdressed and almost soggy. Our friends bone marrow appetizer was beautiful and delicious.
Our friends ahi plate was nicely presented. Our fish plates arrived with white fish on a white plate. Period. Boring. It helped when we added the shared Brussels sprouts, which were delicious, and the sautéed spinach, which was good.
The meal was fine, just not a knock your socks off meal that you might expect at over $100 a head.
We had a table of six and all enjoyed the food and wine, The service was good, as well. BUT, when I ordered a $38 piece of fish and it was only about 4oz AND is on a large, empty plate I have to ask myself, "Is the chef really proud of this dish?" Not even a sprig of parsley. It looked completely ridiculous. We all laughed at first but it wasn't really funny at all. When you have to order your vegetables a la carte for a meal you will be spending $100s of dollars on, well, it is just not right. The food was good, the service was good, but would I go back or recommend it? Absolutely NOT.
The staff at the restaurant was able to screw up what was a a special occasiion. Friends made arrangements for us to receive gifts. One friend arranged for a bottle of champagne, which was not given to us until after we ordered and received drinks and appetizers. Another friend purchased a gift card to pay for our meal which we never received. I also found it odd that after we received our check at the resturant that a voice mail was left at our home asking why we didn't keep our reservation. The following day I call asking to speak to a manager, left my contact info but never received a return call.
Overall great experience. The food was amazing, however it did take three attempts to get my wife a steak that was cooked properly. To the management’s credit, they did comp the steak after the issues.
Still highly recommend Ocean Club for special occasions.
Went there for a romantic evening. It was very loud and the tables were crowded together. The place settings were so far away from each other that you couldn’t hear each other at all.
For the prices, Id have expected much fresher seafood. The snow crab claws weren’t fresh and were the smallest that I’ve ever encountered.
The service was not very attentive and extremely unfriendly.
Expensive, but I expected that. Worth it. Food was superb. Waitstaff very competent and knowledgeable. Only complaint was a group of four two tables away. Loud and very foul-mouthed. The "F-bomb" was continuous, but not the least of the foul vocabulary. Heard every body part and sex act described. Nothing left out. The waiters and the guy in black who asks if everything was OK ignored them, and were standing at the table pouring their wine. My anniversary and my wife had to sit through "S*, F*, D sucker, A**hole" and more, and no staff said a word, even when they were at the table. I use those words myself on occasion, but not in a restaurant that serves $145 Wagyu. If I want that clientele, I'll go somewhere with dancers and brass poles. Durants or Eddie V's for me next time. T-shirts and shorts and Topsiders fit better at Hooters and Outback. Kudos to the kitchen and chef though; top of the line.
Great seafood and steaks. Love the fresh seafood tower options. One of the best restaurants in Scottsdale/Phoenix area for a special occasion. It won't disappoint. We took family visiting from NYC and they loved the food and ambiance. It's high end in prices, service and food quality. Live music provides for a lively ambiance. Desserts are HUGE and made to be shared.
I took my time to write a review due to the in going issue that I am having. However it’s been two weeks and my issue is not resolved so I’ll go ahead and leave my input. I’ll start with saying my experience wasn’t horrible but I do feel st the end mistreated. We dined as mastros 12/23. Thanksgiving day which we expected to be busy but no only that it was my fiancé’s actual birthday on the 23rd and with us just relocation to Arizona I wanted to do something nice since we weee not with our family and it was her birthday. We were greeted, sat and waited on with exceptional service. For the price I wasn’t expecting any less. Nothing was wrong at this time. It was a day or so later where the issue started. I was going to have my left over food since we did not finish our meal, we ate earlier that day due to the timing of dinner so there was great portion left. I opened my prepackaged boxes and discovered that it was not our food that was in the boxes but some one else’s. Immediately my fiancé called and the hostess was emphatic to the error and said a manager would call us back. Two day later the manger did call back and was more than rude for what happened. He asked my fiancé “well they were just left overs right?” Applaud my fiancé mentioned they were but that was beyond the point. For the price and quality we expected better and understand mistakes can happen but was not expecting that response from the manager of the restaurant. The manager went on to say that Friday his general manager would be in and would call us back with the comment “we might get a side order for the next time you come. “ well as you can imagine Friday came and went and no call from the general manager. By Monday, now 10 days from dining, my fiancé gave another call to the restaurant and spoke with a different manager who promised the same thing. That a general manager would be calling this manger a little more apologetic than the last. Yet here we are 10 days after initial contact with mastros
Always good food and generous portions. Very polished service. Unfortunately there was a bathroom attendant with all her clutter on the sink counter, so tacky! I really feel put upon to have to encounter this when I can certainly turn on the faucet and grab a towel myself. Really an awkward moment as you feel you are then obligated to tip this person.
I had a great time, the band was great. Food was delicious.....My waitress was really nice and knowledgeable, I didn't see my waitress for about 5 to 10mins so I ended up ordering my drink from another waitress. However my experience was good and I will recommend to friends and family.
This is my favorite restaurant in Scottsdale. We go there for special occasions. This was my daughter's 20th birthday. We had a table of 4. I made the reservation2 months ahead of time. We arrived 15 minutes early hoping to sit early, but it was crazy busy. In the end, they seated us a great table just as requested by a window within 4 minutes of our original reservation time. They hostess apologized for the 20 minute wait. I had to remind them that we arrived 15 minutes early so the fact they we were seated within 4 minutes of our original time was more than acceptable.
Our waitress was very attentive and professional as is always the case. The atmosphere is just so lively and electric. People watching is half the fun. We had a flawless meal with terrific service. It was tremendous as usual.
