Mastro's Ocean Club - Newport Beach Ratings and Reviews
Our reservation was at 7:30PM; it took the front desk 20 minutes to get us seated. The front desk was very vague and very little interaction skills with guests; I was not the first one to complain that night as an other gentleman had the same issues. Once seated it took our server an other 10 minutes to bring us the menu and attend to us. Food was great, same level of standards as the regular Mastro's nothing to complain about. It was just the terrible experiences with the front desk and the waiting time.
You can tell they have adjusted some recipes. The chop salad has changed, it was very ordinary. The cosmopolitan and Lemon Drop cocktails were not as tasty as they use to be. They seemed watered down. When you spend what you do on cocktails at Mastro’s, it needs to be killer, did not hit the mark at all.
We are locals and have been to both Maestro's many times and have had delicious meals. However, to celebrate my birthday and out of town family visiting, we ate at the Ocean Club on December 11. Three of us had steaks, the rest had fish. The steaks were chewy, tough and the meat tasted old. The steaks had none of the rich flavor typically found at a high end steak restaurant. I haven't eaten at a Sizzler for about 35 years but it very much reminded me of the steaks there. I didn't finish my petit filet mignon because I was tired of trying to chew it and didn't like the flavor. We were very disappointed in the food overall. The cocktails were delicious and the server was friendly. If it were my first time there, I'd never go back. Quite frankly, I'd like a refund for some of that dinner and wish we had gone somewhere else. Three hours of our time and a very mediocre meal was not good value for the price and not the celebration I expected.
I was extremely disappointed with Mastro’s! We were celebrating my husband’s birthday and I specifically wrote that when I made the reservation. However, no one acknowledged it at the restaurant! And I thought he would also receive the complementary birthday dessert. NOTHING!! For the price that we paid, this is a load of crap. Never going back again.
We arrived 15 minutes early and made them aware when they called us to confirm reservations earlier in the day that we were celebrating both of my daughters birthdays. We were never seated and waited over an hour past our time. General Manager Dale came out and apologized but we still had no table so we left! I was infuriated! Overheard another person complaining of same thing. Very poorly managed restaurant! I've never experienced anything like that anywhere!
The food and ambiance were spectacular. Our server was professional and attentive and full of suggestions; good at increasing the check without being overtly pushy! Pricey, but that was somewhat expected. We enjoyed our evening and would return for another special occasion.
Maestro's Ocean Club is one of our favorite restaurants! We love introducing it to our friends and family. They love it too. Everything is delicious and exceptional from the bread basket all the way to the butter cake! Even the whip cream that it came with was to die for! We are going back next weekend!
I had heard so many wonderful things about Mastros. First thing I was turned off with was getting sat in the tent by a open area that was very cold. Yes the restaurant was lovely and the food was good but not great for the price. It was my daughters birthday and I had informed our waitress and she asked if it would be ok to sing to her and I said absolutely!!!! Well it never happened there was no singing. She later brought the dessert menu and we were wondering if a dessert would come complimentary for the birthday but did not want to be rude for asking so we did not and told the waitress that we were so full from dinner that we probably should not order dessert but since it's a birthday celebration we decided to order the warm butter cake. So the warm butter cake comes along with a complimentary piece of chocolate cake(and no singing or happy birthday wishes from the staff at all) We would have never ordered the butter cake had the waitress told us the chocolate cake was coming. I guess we were just disappointed
Perfect for a romantic date or a nice dinner with the family! The wait staff was so friendly and helpful when deciding what to eat. All of the food was amazing and cooked to the perfection. We were raving about our meal for days after we ate there. Will definitely return again in the future!
This is an amazing place. From Walking through the vibrant bar hearing live music to sitting at a larger than normal rectangle table with white pristine table cloths. Our waiter was excellent. My daughter didn’t like her wine so without a flinch the waiter got her a different glass. We had an array of food ranging from scallops to lobster to a filet that was the best I ever tasted. We were celebrating both my wife and my birthday and without a flinch they brought us a slice of chocolate cake and there signature butter cake (omg). The place is not cheap but you definitely get what you pay for
I've been to this place a few times now and food is excellent and the ambiance is exactly what you would expect for a restaurant at this level. Very pricey but worth it in most aspect. Perfect place for a special occasion or a memorable date with your loved one. One thing I never understood was the service. It is neither friendly nor attentive. They are not rude in anyway, but I would expect much better considering the price level. I have never considered this in my life, but I'm beginning to wonder if it isn't because I'm Asian. Very unfortunate.
"good" meal at a fine restaurant. My mother received a steak, which seemed "old" and tasted quite sour. Staff apologized, and we received new steak at no charge. I guess even a good restaurant can make a mistake. Nevertheless, the service was A+/ ambiance was excellent.
Mastro's is a beautiful restaurant. Our food was mostly wonderful. We had two entrees that were not good at all. We ordered the halibut blackened and that was very overcooked and dry. The seabass was amazing! The seafood tower was also delicious. The kids mac n cheese was surprisingly awful. They took off the mac n cheese but I wished they would have also taken off the halibut since it was so bad. The butter cake was also incredible. We were there for Thanksgiving - it was a wonderful dinner.
Went there for Thanksgiving. Place was crowded but had reservations and seated quickly. Seated next to the large windows - it was warm outside so it was boiling n Cr to the windows; had to move a bit.
Service was outstanding, could not have been better and certainly in the highest tier restaurants that I have eaten at.
Food and drinks were outstanding, simply stated it was the best Thanksgiving food we’ve had eating out at a restaurant over the last 7 years.
Will need to go there again for a “routine”dinner.
Mastro’s is a must for foodies! The wine menu is extensive and the cocktail menu is cleverly designed. Appetizers are bountiful and sides are gigantic - easily enough for two people. The steaks were beyond compare no need for a knife. Your fork will suffice for cutting the meat. If that’s not enough, the dessert menu is enough to send anyone into a food coma. My wife claims the butter cake is the best she’s ever had. For me, the cherry crisp was as good as it gets. Admittedly, the prices are lofty, but it’s a restaurant you won’t want to miss.
Service and food were good. Only complaint was our steaks were way undercooked. We ordered medium well. We were there celebrating a special birthday and I had requested a quiet booth/table, unfortunately they seated us at a place where it was so loud we couldn't have an enjoyable conversation. I fully understand that restaurants cannot accommodate all requests, but I noticed that there were plenty of open tables that would have accommodated my request. Very disappointing evening!
