Mastro's Ocean Club - Newport Beach Ratings and Reviews
The reservations were for a Birthday Celebration, the staff didn't note it, sadly we had to point it out. Our seats were in the BAR, the noise level was to loud, to close to others, watching the bar atmosphere wasn't what we had in mind. The food was great, we started with Hamachi was superb, and cocktails (6 total) , Mambo Cesar Salad two filet's with bone in delicious, seabass, lobster mashed potatoes, snap peas, and double chocolate cake for dessert. Service was on point. I will never sit in the bar and dine again, to intrusive with others, and the bar scene inappropriate to see while dining at Mastro's.
We were in Newport Beach on vacation and a friend recommended that we go to Mastro’s for a great steak dinner. The restaurant did not disappoint, it has an elegant ambiance, a great large bar set up and very cool out door seating in the middle of the restaurant, based on an open roof design to accommodate a large tree in the middle of the restaurant. The food was great and the service was outstanding. It is not a inexpensive night out, but I would highly recommend Mastro’s.
Ridiculously loud. The steak I ordered was super chewy and unrelatable to the price. It was like chewing bubblegum.
The seafood we ordered redeemed the poor quality of the steak.
The ambiance was great however much louder than expected. Service was good too so despite my sub par meal everything else was good.
Our Waiter was excellent, the food was cooked perfect! Definitely make sure you make reservations on a Friday Night. Was a perfect evening for me and my girl. The price is about the same as going to Lawry's ( not a secluded of and atmosphere, but obviously alot more items to the menu) just be careful the costs can add up if your not selective. And 1 side is plenty for two people.
Food was great but service was slow and very noisy . Very busy and the tables are very close to each other. But you still can’t hear yourself talk to you’re husband .
I would go back but only if I know is not going to be romantic, fast service and I’m not going to talk much .
The atmosphere is very upscale. We were first seated at a table with a lot of traffic but upon request we were quickly and seamlessly moved to a more accommodating table. The service was wonderful and very responsive. Our server had a great personality, was very responsive to whatever requests were made, and answered any and all questions about the food. The food served was delicious, well prepared and well presented. No one had any complaints about the food, service or ambience. One complaint was the cost of a drink at the bar - Glenlivet 12 was $19.50 - almost the cost of an entire bottle. Mastros was fabulous but it is overpriced.
Have dined at Mastro's many times, especially this location. Had a drink in the bar and the drink and the service were great. We were then seated at a small table on the aisle in the restaurant which was somewhat noisy.
The food was great as one would expect, but the service was spotty compared to our other visits. One waitress came up and introduced herself and took our order for appetizers. When she brought the appetizers another waitress was with her and said I'll be your server tonight? Perhaps the waitstaff was short handed that night but we seemed to be forgotten at times, having to try and get the servers attention by flagging her down.
Our special occasion was overshadowed by the service we received.
Quite disappointed with Mastro's Ocean Club. Booked a reservation for 3 at 9PM on a Saturday for a friend's birthday. We waited 25 minutes to be seated. Ordered the bone-in Ribeye medium rare plus. The ribeye served to me was rare near the bone and well done at the edges. On the other hand, the sauteed wild mushrooms, lobster mashed potatoes, and the butter cake were very good.
I think our waiter forgot about us because he was no where to be found for 25 minutes.
Service was excellent. Appetizers and cocktails were great. The bar scene was a trip (rich men/women who clearly forgot how old they are) so if you do go then have a cocktail in the bar and the lobster bisque and enjoy the people watching. Entrees were nothing special and NOT worth the money. Wine list was over priced too. For a cocktail, appetizer, $110 bottle of wine and entrée the bill was $470 for two of us. WAY over priced. And honestly the entrees were nothing special (NY Strip and Sea Bass). Go to Broadway in Laguna and enjoy better food for far less money.
My wife and I have made multiple visits to Mastro's Ocean Club and enjoyed every visit. Reserving a favorite table, good wine by the glass and filet that is unsurpassed is awesome. Lettuce wedge, with bacon that's warm, scalloped potatoes, etc. oh so good! Save room for desert, warm butter cake. The only negative was my tasting and accepting a bottle of Franciscan Meritage that was a bit off in the flavor profile, perhaps stored with a bit of heat?. This was my mistake not our server. Anyway... please consider Mastro's for an exceptional dining experience.
We had reservations for 8pm but didn’t get seated until 8:30 in a noisy part of the restaurant with no apology from a manager. Our service in the dining room was very good as expected but management doesn’t seem to be concerned by the average customer. Friday’s seem to be unusually busy and I wouldn’t recommend the restaurant at busy times since the dining experience doesn’t meet the expectations for the prices charged.
I have been to this location before and the one in South Coast and typically everything is exceptional. However this time was a little different. The table was not ready in time, in fact 20 minutes late, not a big deal but it just bothered me a little bit. Drinks in the bar are always amazing and the live entertainment was great. Table was good, outside on a great night was nice. Our steaks were over cooked, I did not send them back because I hate that person, but they were far from what I am used to. The service was pretty good but not as good as usual. To be honest I left disappointed. Its not the cheapest place, but really that has nothing to do with it, I did not get the service and the food was far from what is could and usually was.
The food and service were outstanding. I started with the heirloom tomatoes and burrata which was absolutely delicious. For our entrees, my wife had that Alaskan halibut which was large and superb. I had the swordfish which was the best I have ever tasted. Another unbelievable Mastro's experience.
We have been to Mastro's in Newport Beach 3 other times and loved the service and food. This visit was a very disappointing special birthday celebration for my husband and myself. We made an early dinner reservation at 5:45 to ensure a good table. We were sat next to a noisy group in the middle of the restaurant, there were plenty of open window tables. Our waitress had a dirty jacket on and was not very attentive. My husbands steak was over cooked, when we mentioned to our waitress she exclaimed "I ordered it to be med-rare" and took the steak to the kitchen. Another steak was quickly served to my husband by a manager. We have had superb service in the past, that is what brought us back. I asked to have our sides boxed up to take home. We had no boxes to take home when it was time to go. For the money, unless the service improves, we will not be back. I gave a 3 star overall because of the company, not the service. 2.5 stars for the experience.
