Mastro's Ocean Club - Malibu
Brunch: Saturday - Sunday: 11:00am - 3:00pm
Food was great and service was outstanding.
Great food and service!!!
The services was poor. I expressed my concerns to the manager.
Food was amazing and service is exceptional. Only came to the Malibu location for ocean view and requested the window and didn’t get it. Ambiance is hectic but overall good experience.
My first time at the Ocean Club and it was special. This Midwestern Boy had a great time with my fabulous date. Her Vegan requests were met without hesitation and our young waiter excelled in offering options. My scallop dish was very satisfying. Our window view of the surf in the spotlight added to the ambiance . From the hosts, to the valets, service was impeccable! Loved it.
I have enjoyed the Ocean Club since it's first restaurant opened in Scottsdale, AZ but my last two visits have been disappointing. I decided to eat at the bar this time and talk about 3rd class service. It started great, introduction, menu, plate and silverware and spiraled down hill from there. I sat there 10 minutes before they returned to take my wine and dinner order and after that, eye contact was maybe made 3 more times through the duration of my meal. Bartenders were busy, one kept looking up recipes on these pieces of laminated paper and they also spent quite a bit of time socializing with the female servers when they approached. Sauteed Shrimp was great. 20 minutes between that plate being removed and my Filet arriving. Steak was ordered rare and it was cooked rare to med rare at best. It started to become comical to me at a point that no one out of all of these bartenders was going to ever check on me. I started cutting around the ends to eat some of it and worked on my baked potato and finally just pushed my plate forward. Finally the bartender who took my order saw my plate pushed forward and asked me how everything was. You have got to be kidding me I said, I told him and showed him how undercooked my steak was and he said he could have it cooked up for me. Really... my plate is pushed forward with the napkin on it and I have been here for almost an hour and NOW you want to fix my food? He looked at it and just said sorry about that. Needless to say my wine glass and water have been empty for about 15 minutes by this point and even when he is talking to me about my food he does not notice and just removes the plate and goes back to making service drinks. I got the barracks attention (he had an earpiece in) and asked him if he could just get me my check and he told a bartender who told the original one and he just printed out my check and dropped it in front of me. I made a note on my receipt for him to let him know about his service.
Steak was over-cooked. Waiter wanted to only reconnect most expensive wines.
always a pleasure eating at Mastros. my personal favorite
Best dining experience I’ve had in LA. And, what a view!
Food was delicious, servers extremely attentive. One of best steaks I’ve ever had.
The food is usually fantastic when we come except for this time. We order the Japanese wagu steak for $200 and it was not cut up for us like it usually. It was also very poorly cooked with inedible bites of fat that could not be chewed and cold spots. Extremely unacceptable for a $200 steak - very disappointed for my husband's birthday dinner.
amazing food and better views
Went to Mastro's for the first time to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. Without a doubt Mastro's did not disappoint. From the very beginning to the very end, we were treated with excellent service. Our waiter was amazing, very courteous and helpful with suggestions. Ambiance was good. Live music and several folks just having a nice night out. The food was exquisite, although for some it may be overpriced if you're running on a budget. However, if you're not, do try the tomahawk steak!!! Ours was cook to perfection; full of juice and tenderness. Pairs well with the lobster mashed potatoes and garganzola mac n' cheese. If you have room for dessert, do try the butter cake. It is also delicious. Without a doubt I will return to Mastro's for more.
It was my birthday and they gave me a menu that said “ happy Birthday Alicia.” My names Domenic. We were placed at the worst table on the floor just outside the kitchen with constant influx of staff, over vibration of the floor and constant fear someone was going to run into my arm. The food was good but not worth Mastros prices. We were way more satisfied with nearby bandera steakhouse. The aspen ridge rib eye was very tough to the point it was hard to cut. I had this cut before at mastros and the difference was night and day. Not sure what happened. The rack of lamb was nothing special.
Excellent service and our server Patrick was amazing
Mastro's Ocean Club is a fantastic restaurant in a gorgeous location. We had sunset seats at the window. We were able to capture multiple framable sunset photos. Drinks were excellent and substantial. The starter tower of sushi was amazing. Steaks were perfect as were the sides. The warm butter cake dessert is among the best in the US and comes with a pan of fresh cold whipped cream. Incredible! Will definitely be back.
Loved every bit of it. The food is always delicious, and the staff is friendly and professional!!! Great music/ambiance, and you can’t beat the views ;)
It was disappointing the service in comparison to the Mastro’s from Las Vegas. Our waiter wasn’t attentive at all, it felt like he had to serve us instead of wanting to.
Food, view, and service were 10/10. Highly recommend
Was looking forward to my birthday dinner and made reservations 3 months almost in advance...put down to please be seated with ocean view and even talked to the restaurant on the phone (while I know it’s not a guarantee I was hoping). When we arrived there was a gentleman and his companion who were clearly just showing up without a reservation...(not sure if they were famous nobody’s or if they knew someone at the restaurant). They were seated before the place even opened up, window seats...now these table have 4 seats so I know they want parties of 4 seating them and the 2 people tables are behind (still able to kinda sorta somewhat see the ocean). Hint if you want ocean view have a party more than 2. So obviously we were seated in the tables behind. With tables in front of us with small children...so unfortunately it was not a very enjoyable dinner with screaming/crying/shouting kids. I understand this is in no control the establishment and I am not taking anything away from them...the food was very good, not amazing. I have VERY high expectations from Mastro’s...but I’ve had better steak (Boa is better and so is Musso & Frank-my fav). But I am glad I tried it, but I won’t be back....
We loved Mastro's Ocean Club restaurant. We dined there on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
Here are the highlights:
1. Service was exceptional. Our server Robert was attentive throughout the evening and never left us wondering where he was. Importantly, we never once felt rushed to get to the next course or phase of the evening.
2. Food was amazing. We shared the 40 ounce bone-in wagyu steak and loved every bite. There was enough for three people to share. We ordered garlic mash potato and roasted Brussel sprouts for sides. We did their butter cake signature dessert and demolished it. Pure love and yumminess.
3. Drinks were outstanding. I chose the Mastro's Classic Martini with blue cheese stuffed olives and it was great. My wife ordered a Lemon Drop Martini which is served over dry ice for an interesting twist. Both came in oversized shakers meaning our cocktail was at least 1.5 generous pours and not just a single like you might expect.
In summary we loved the restaurant and will return the next time we're in the area and in the mood for great steak. We dined after sunset and did not get to enjoy the on-the-water location of the restaurant but imagine it must be great when the sun goes down.
The music was not up to par to the price $$ one pays. It felt like a Karaoke instead of a fine dinning restaurant. The food was good but it does not justify the price. Great service and views. If the music improves and slight adjustment in price would ocurre I would go more often and not twice a year.
Great food and portions!
My only complaint would be that the wait staff serving station was so close to our table we were locked in a bit making it difficult to get past all of them to get to the restroom. I didn't complain because we did have a nice ocean view. That being said, I think they could find a better place for the station.
My second time at Mastro’s Ocean Club was exactly like the first time. Excellent, attentive service, great food, good drinks, wonderful location. Fantastic steak, Mac and cheese sides, followed by their flourless chocolate cake. Superb!
Came here for Thanksgiving 2018. Booked 2 months in advance, had to leave a credit card since holiday. $100 charge in gift cert if cxld within 72 hrs, $100 charge if cancelled 24 hours. Got a conf call and 3 emails confirming up to date. Made me think they were hard up for business. Was I wrong. Arrived at 6:40 for a 6:45 res for 4 and told running a little late-10-15. There were about 20 people in various parties waiting already in a very small reception area. We got some seats at bar and ordered cocktails and watched football. At 20 min in we went to inquire, said very shortly and proceeded to take us to the worst table in the place, the one directly in the middle of all the chaos and pathways to every area of restaurant from the kitchen-awesome. Uh no-husband proceeded to introduce himself to the GM Tony who proceeded to help find us better seating. Tony stepped up and stepped out with a perfect table in the far corner facing the ocean. Granted it was a holiday and we were probably 3rd seating for our server, things were a little off and her periods of checking on us were a bit over-long. Salads were messed up, entrees were undercooked -sword fish and salmon rare in middle. Desserts were the best-key lime pie, butter cake, pecan pie. Coffee was watery. $509 later incl 20% tip, choosing to overlook the less than stellar service and food. So my point to this all-Mastro’s squeezed every dollar out of this holiday possible-overbooked, food that felt slung onto a plate. And we got charged $12 for valet to boot -final kick to the behind. We’ll stick with Vic and Anthony’s in Vegas-a Landry’s property - but one where service, bar tending skills and dining experience is executed perfectly.
Had Thanksgiving dinner there this year and it was packed (rightly so). Fantastic food and ambiance.
THE VIEW; FOOD; SERVICE; HEAVEN; WE ARE REGULARS AND IT IS ALWAYS A 10.
THE MARTINIS AWESOME
Only negative claim chowder was cold
and baked potato not fully cooked
Will definitely be back but probably not order those items again
Steak was too buttery
Brüssel sprouts were burnt
Always a fantastic time, great food, wonderful music, view is unbelievable, and the service and management the best!
We had a very special evening as we revealing the gender of our first child. Our server Jake went out of his way to make the experience special. We ordered the butter cake and the chefs wrote the gender on the plate for us. Jake recorded the whole thing and we were completely surprised!
My first time at this Mastro’s .. ordered Chilean Sea BAss for 51.00... the piece of fish was maybe as big as my fist.. ordered lobster mashed potatoes for 38.00.. the bowl was half filled and soggy liquid at the bottom. So disappointed .. for these prices and small portions I won’t be returning!
Service started out slow. Food to salty and expensive.
The food was great. Wish server was more attentive. Only went by our table to serve food or get the order. No conversation. It felt like he really was just there for the money. After we paid the bill, he did not give us any attention and not even a bye or thank you after the generous tip.
No leg room at our two person table. Barely enough room for our food and drinks for the two of us. Very cramped. Service was mediocre. Nothing special. I had put in occasion notes that it was my wife birthday and it was never acknowledged.
Amazing setting next to the ocean. Excellent service. Delicious food.
Our table of eight was there to celebrate my 55th birthday. Stacia took great care of us. She explained the specials offered some suggestions and the amount we ordered was perfect for us all. The butter cake is the best. We had a ocean view table. Wonderful celebration
Such a great experience, can’t wait to return.
Great Food-Great Service! The view was incredible and the food was delicious.
