My first time at this Mastro’s .. ordered Chilean Sea BAss for 51.00... the piece of fish was maybe as big as my fist.. ordered lobster mashed potatoes for 38.00.. the bowl was half filled and soggy liquid at the bottom. So disappointed .. for these prices and small portions I won’t be returning!
Service started out slow. Food to salty and expensive.
The food was great. Wish server was more attentive. Only went by our table to serve food or get the order. No conversation. It felt like he really was just there for the money. After we paid the bill, he did not give us any attention and not even a bye or thank you after the generous tip.
Amazing setting next to the ocean. Excellent service. Delicious food.
Our table of eight was there to celebrate my 55th birthday. Stacia took great care of us. She explained the specials offered some suggestions and the amount we ordered was perfect for us all. The butter cake is the best. We had a ocean view table. Wonderful celebration
Such a great experience, can’t wait to return.
Great Food-Great Service! The view was incredible and the food was delicious.
I'll start off saying we've been here before and had an amazing experience at every mastro restaurant we've been to. This time however was a big disappointment. My wife's dish had to be sent back twice. The lobster was rubbery but still somehow cold on the edges but warm towards the middle. She ended up changing the order to a steak and eggs brunch special. The steak was ordered medium rare but was still ice cold in the center and completely raw, the eggs were ordered as over medium but were the overcooked so far that they were powdery.
All in all the service made up for it with complimentary desserts and drinks.
While the service and care was amazing the food definitely didn't live up to the expensive price..
We'll definitely give another go at this place but only one more try...
Mastros was off their game and the food / service had gone way down hill in the past 2-3 years. Would recommend going to BH or WeHo for steaks and some other bar in Malibu for the view. Steak was so disappointing I ended up wrapping it up to give to my dog.
what a disappointment for the price. the service was underwhelming. the food was way overpriced, and the waitress kept trying to up-sell us even as we stated exactly what we wanted. the sunset was nice, once they finally opened the shades. the music was too loud and seemed inappropriate for the environment. also, there were babies screaming and a man wearing very loud crocs.
Birthday lunch and it was amazing food with an equally amazing view of the ocean!!
I took a friend who is a pescatarian to Maestro's Ocean Club hoping for more seafood oriented fare compared to the red meat menu of a regular Maestro's. Sadly, while there were plenty of fish options on the menu, the quality was absent. Our appetizers were stunningly presented, and the smoked salmon, shrimp and king crab components were first rate. But the lobster was rubbery and watery, indicative of excess time in a holding tank and overcooking. Moving on to the entre items, my swordfish tasted like frozen/defrosted and the salmon my friend ordered was overcooked. Accompanying roasted brussels sprouts were beyond roasted and somewhat burnt. The lobster mash was loaded with lobster, but it was rubbery and stringy. The meal wasn't terrible, but it wasn't what I expected from someplace where a typical meal for two runs up a tab of several hundred dollars. If I go back, I'll stick to steak. The service was good though a bit intrusive. And it would be nice if staff asked you if you wanted to be near the music or in a quiet area before seating you. Maestro's has evolved from a fairly quiet, sedate place to a loud, vibrant one. Not being twenty something anymore, I found it hard to carry on a conversation. The main thing this restaurant has going for it is the location, the view of the coast is fabulous. And the bar/wine list is very extensive. So if you come, request a window table, have time to enjoy the bar and view, eat steak and have someone give you a ride home. Stick with Maestro's strengths and you'll have a great dinner.
Date night with the husband was amazing food was amazing drinks 🍸 yummy ambience superb Overlooking the ocean views just fabulous
Our server really made our dinner memorable. His name was John and he was just so classy and knowledgeable about making our dinner the best. We came for my husbands birthday and John was so caring. I’m impressed. Great cuisine at this price needs to be accompanied by such service and I have to let it be known that Mastro’s delivered.
Too formulaic. Little personal attention considering the price. Wines overpriced.
Our server was the only reason I was not wowed by this place.
Food and service was amazing, we had a lovely time
We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience
Everyone wished us a happy Anniversary and definitely made it a special night.
I love Maestros, but this time our steak was too salty. There were 6 of us and half agreed our steaks were too salty :(
Reservations at 5:45. Seated right away. We didn’t get our food until 7:27, despite ordering almost right away. Even getting the menu took longer than it should have. Clearly not prepared for guests. At 7:20, we asked our waiter to give us the check for the bread and drinks we ordered. He advised us that our food was coming and sent the manager. He apologized and the food came at exactly 7:27. We were all filled up on bread by that time. We nibbles at our food for a bit and decided to leave. Very disappointing to dine at a restaurant of this caliber and have this experience.
Great food of course it is Malibu so expect to pay accordingly. They have the tendency to overcook their stakes but they fix it for you if you complain
Get ready for 400%+ for any wine on the menu from its regular price and the most disappointing food in the area. We consider ourselves foodies and love good wine. But this place is not for us. I do not care if my dinner costs $450 for two if it lives up to the price. This place definitely does not. Food is much worse than at place 3 miles away in a shopping mall (Ollo) and costs 3-4 times more. I could only eat one third of my organic steak, and my wife's fish was dry and disgusting.
Good food, good service, poor light, too noisy!
Always a great experience. Anthony and his staff were on point.
It's always epic when you dine here, truly magical experiance.
The service and ambience were top notch. The meat dishes we had (ribeye, strip steak, pork chop) were all good, but not what I expect from a restaurant of this caliber. The cocktails which had dry ice in them were very entertaining and super cold. I
I’ll be back for sure with a friend or family members, plus I pass by here all the time. Loved this place and everything about it...
Great service , food was amazing and martinis were delightful!
We love Mastro's! The Ocean Club location has amazing ambiance being on the water. The food is consistently delicious (though it's possible the steaks are more flavorful at BH location??) and we love the bigger variety of seafood here.
Our server Kristina went above and beyond - she is personable, attentive and made the night fun. We will for sure request her next time!
We were disappointed about the lack of vegetarian options. It seems they cook everything with butter. I know this is a steakhouse, and not designed to be vegetarian friendly, but our last visit to the sister location in Thousand Oaks prompted the server to bring the chef to our table and customize a delicious creative meal. We expected the same this time but our server was not able to bring the chef and we had to pick from very limited and uninteresting side plates. Even the bread had dairy in it. We ordered the veggie sushi but they did not bring the soy sauce, Ginger and wasabi until we specifically asked for it.
The ambiance was loud and unromantic. If you come here I would suggest requesting the enclosed patio and specifically a seat near the window where you can see a view. Also, valet is $12 plus tip, so try to park along PCH if you can.
It was pure perfection - a fabulous evening with family and an outstanding meal.
I wanted to celebrate my daughter, granddaughter and my birthdays. I can't even begin to express how happy I was with absolutely everything. First our view was spectacular. Our server was just the best ever. She explained all of the specials and we chose the Chateaubriand and it was scrumptious! The martini's were superb and the shrimp cocktail is a must - just to see how it is served. Our ending was a gorgeous tray of two round cakes and a huge slice of chocolate cake with clotted cream and candles. My daughter who is never impressed was speechless when the desert was served with our names and Happy Birthday written on the plate. We three decided it was the best celebration ever!
The food is good but not sure it’s worth the price. Dinner here is about $200/person with drinks/tax/tip. I had the Chilean sea bass which was disappointing (didn’t have a lot of flavor) but the lobster mashed potatoes were awesome. Also don’t forget the butter cake for dessert. Our server was good but had too many tables. He was running around like crazy and left us - more than once - waiting. I find that unacceptable when you’re paying these prices.
We dined at Mastro's Ocean Club Saturday for our parent's 45th wedding anniversary. We all very much enjoyed our dining experience. Food was great, wine & drinks were great, ambiance was great! Our waiter and support staff were great! We happened to there during game 7 of the NLCS & we got to watch the Dodgers win and move on to the World Series! Go Dodgers! Such a fun night & experience! We will be back soon!!!
Amanda was great about calling to make sure the restaurant could accommodate my guests and I for my birthday brunch and the hostess was wonderful. However, once seated, we constantly had to flag the waiter down for service, and numerous times had to ask other waiters not assigned to our table to help us.
Once we were able to finally order food, we had to make several requests for bread and water. After waiting 90 minutes, our food had not been brought out. My fiancé and I both spoke separately to the restaurant manager about the issues and the fact that we still hadn’t eaten after waiting almost 2 hours for our food. He said he’d “look into it” and get back to us. He never did. He also told me that there was no kitchen back up so our food should not have been delayed.
Eventually the food came out. The lamb was completely over-salted. The lobster Benedict was cold and over-salted, and the English muffin was so hard that my friend could not cut through it. My fiancé and I both ordered the steak hash which was dried out, and the steak was over-cooked and too tough to chew.
We were the 1st to arrive at the restaurant, yet the very last to be served, and were met with numerous unresolved issues.
Michael was outstanding!
Everything was wonderful!
Outstanding food, view & service! I’ve been here multiple times and they always exceed expectations.
Awful music selection. Good food.
Made reservations for 9:30 to celebrate my girlfriends birthday. Arrived around 8:45 and enjoyed some cocktails and the live music by the bar. We didn’t get seated until about 10:00 or so (the only negative part). Overall the experience was great. Our waiter provided excellent customer service and the food was amazing.
