Beautiful day and setting for an amazing meal
Checked in 15 mins before reservation. Hostess checked us in and told us to feel free to get drinks at the bar. 20 mins later I saw that other ppl who arrived after us was being seated. I walked up to the hostess and asked if my table was ready. She checked the list and my name was no longer on it. They forgot to seat us. I also told the hostess that it was my wife’s bday asked her to surprise her with a cheesecake to celebrate. No one informed the waitress. Simply put the hostess service was horrible. For the price I paid I expected to be seated on time and not forgotten about.
On the positive waitress was awesome food delicious.
Everything was amazing! The food the service highly recommend
Very desirable restaurant to get in but value overstated. You would expect for prices in menu delicious food and above and beyond service while it’s above average.
Amazing food and atmosphere. Service a tiny bit slow
My husband brought me here for my birthday last night! We had a 5pm reservation (which was honestly the PERFECT time because the sunset was incredible). We got a table inside, right by the window. Our waiter was Johnnie, who was AMAZING, btw. Johnnie was personable, super knowledgeable, speedy but not rushed, and intuitive. He helped make this experience even better, honestly. Even the people who constantly looked to make sure our waters were filled, we had no empty plates just sitting on the table, and they were readily available to serve. I’ve been to some very nice restaurants around the US and this place was definitely the best I’ve found in LA for a birthday dinner date occasions. The view, the ambiance, the noise level, the service, and the food. The service was a 10/10. I’ll give more details on the food below.
We got a basket of bread brought to the table ($5) and each got a glass of red wine, which were both so good. We almost got a bottle, but each having 1 glass was enough for us. We then ordered the 16oz New York Strip ($69) and didn’t get the extra butter options (they have 3 options, but it was so good with the normal butter… although I’m definitely going to try the truffle butter next time). For sides, we split the steamed asparagus ($15) - they were cooked to perfection, and of course weren’t very seasoned *which I prefer* but I’m sure their sautéed asparagus is. We also split the garlic mashed potatoes ($15), which was a HUGE serving and soooo good. They were perfectly fluffy & I’m so glad we split that. Then the chef brought out a complimentary dessert (cheesecake with a candle and everything). I want to try their lobster mashed potatoes next time! The food was 10/10.
I love how the restaurant is laid out and that our date night was towards the bottom by the window. I saw people at the bar and could tell the noise level was louder, but we couldn’t hear them and it didn’t bother us at all. So I feel like any occasion is perfect here!
Birthday Experience 😁it went phenomenal. Loved the live music that was playing.
Our waiter Taylor was just great. Would love it if we had her every time . Great touch on the birthday menu. Birthday girl loved seeing her name!!! Thank you.
My reservation for 5:30 PM inside the main building turned into waiting outside until almost 6 PM and being seated in a tent. My table of 6 were seated at a table of 9.
When i requested they remove the extra place settings and chairs the staff were not happy. The tent used old banquet tables in chairs like at a VFW. The service was hurried and un organized. The Sea Bass was delivered on a dirty plate and not fit to eat. When you spend $1200 on a meal you would expect more.
Long wait past our reservation time and better service if you're sitting inside instead of the parking lot dining.
Very disappointed. Came for brunch. No brunch menu. Service sketchy? Forgot ordered item, would not go back.
Suggestion. Don’t advertise brunch on your website and then don’t have the menu when the guests come for brunch. Also. Advertised open at 11:00am. Not open til 11:30.
Overall the experience sucked.
I did enjoy conversation with my family. That’s about it.
Made reservations for my best friends birthday. Had checked in an hour early for a 9:15 reservation, and was told we could wait at the bar and have a drink. Was sat earlier than our reservation. Everything we ordered was delicious and our server was wonderful. Attentive and courteous, will definitely be back!
We had a great experience. Food and service were excellent. We really appreciate that you still have outdoor dining.
We went to Mastro's for my mother's 85th and niece's 28th Birthday celebrations and everything was perfect from the window seating, wait staff and food. Definitely recommend the Lobster mashed potatoes.
Great service. Great atmosphere . Everyone’s very nice .
Went to Maestros for a birthday celebration, which the restaurant was made aware of when the reservation was booked, and was seated next to the kitchen doors. Why a restaurant at this price point has tables that close to the kitchen is beyond me. Wait staff was slooooow. No problem at first since we were celebrating. But 30 minutes to get a cocktail? An hour and a half in appetizers finally arrived: Clear lobster roll was tasteless. Big Eye Tuna tartare had a big lump of un-chopped tuna with "connective tissue" that made a third of it inedible. Two hours in, Main Course: The Sea Bass was well prepared, but the medium rare bone in ribeye was blue. For how long it took to come out, we didn't dare send it back. Ate the cap and boxed the rest. Baked potato was good. Second round of drinks and desert were--you guessed it--slow to come out. After desert we waited another 30 minutes to get our bill and pay--Three hours later, was finally fed up enough to have a word with the manager who was "sorry" but didn't do anything to make it right. I know that there are labor shortages in the restaurant industry, but when you're dropping $300.00 on dinner, you expect more. And three hours? Would have given one star, but the sea bass was and baked potato were good. Oh, and the live music was so loud that you had to shout in order to have a conversation. Needless to say, we won't be going back.
Been to Mastro’s in Thousand Oaks and Palm Springs, this was our first time to Ocean Club. Service was great. Food was very good. The only shortfall was with our dietary restrictions guest, who really didn’t enjoy their food.
The modified house salad just looked like yellow iceberg lettuce with some egg bits, at least they could’ve made her a spinach salad with some fresh fruit and goat cheese,
I was just surprised at the lack of creativity to accommodate the dairy allergy. Also, the modified seared ahi was soaked it soy sauce to the point it was just a salt bomb.
The other food was fantastic. The oysters were spot on, the steaks and cocktails were great! The dessert was amazing.
Still a good experience, just expected a bit more for our dietary restrictions person. I’ve seen mastro chefs put together some pretty amazing stuff for dietary restrictions and this time it fell a bit short.
That being said, Mastro’s is still worth the time and money for a great experience.
Steak was too salty. Food was way too expensive for what it was. Service was super slow. They did not have 8oz (small portion) ribeye, only 22oz. Also, we had requested outside seating and they sat as inside. Overall—pretty unsatisfied customer.
It was a great experience with great food
Lovely place to spend my birthday!
Inexplicably we we were made to wait until approximately while 9 other groups were seated many had arrived after our initial check in. We were just standing around and finally asked after 20-25 minutes why we were not being seated , this is after arriving at the restaurant at 4:55pm. Finally with a show the hostess introduced us to our waiter he welcomed us with an incorrect reservation name and an invitation to a table for twelve. We were 7, after more consulting they figured out who we were. Others have had the similar check in experiences mentioned in earlier reviews I don't know why Mastro' s does not fix this. The initial experience of drink orders, menu explanation, order taking was good. Waiter was knowledgable and charming. Food was served nicely. Some holes in the dinner service. 2-3 tries to get a second bottle of wine which did not come till midway through entree and no water fill ups although glasses are empty. Lag from dinner till desert. Desert elements were excellent. Restaurant EXTREMELY expensive and for that price would not expect the lapses that we were experiencing. Probably will not go back....They have plenty of business without us.
Restaurant was great, ambience and service was fantastic. I wish they would let us know how much menu items that are market value were before hand.
The atmosphere was electric the drinks were perfect the food was mouthwatering and the service was 5 star well done 🙌
Waitress Taylor was good. Air conditioning was unnecessarily too cold. The off menu items were great. All of our appetizers and sides were good. But our bone-in rib eye was very sub par. Kind of ruined the meal. We originally ordered “medium rare plus” (an in between of medium and medium rare) and it came back to us extremely rare. We sent it back to have it cooked to medium and it just did not taste that great. The fat was very chewy and it was not like it was last time. This was our second time here because the first time the food was great, but this time made us come to the conclusion we won’t be returning.
Really good experience dining with Mastro’s Ocean Club Malibu. The live music and the California weather cannot make it better.
It was another fantastic evening! Great service and great company! Food was delicious drinks amazing as well!
The service was great however we got sick once we ate there. The wait staff was great however probably wouldn’t go back.
All the steaks came out wrong and we waited for 3 hours. Finally we gave up and left. It was a frustrating and horrible experience.
Took my parents out for dinner
Paris & Patrick are the best servers I’ve had yet at this Mastros location!! Great meal too!! Took my boyfriend for his first time for his birthday and he literally fell asleep in the car he was so full and satisfied. Until next time! <3
Amazing food and service.
Delicious food and attentive staff. Ambiance charming and upscale. Will definitely be back.
Great service ,
Great food , terrific music and ambiance . Loved it !!
The only issue was the lava cake (I think that’s what that dessert was ) it was more like chocolate pudding and was not very good . We didn’t complain but none of us could take more than a bite
We went for my birthday and arrived 5 min after our 5:00 pm reservation. The restaurant was empty yet we were still seated right by the open door which due to the servers can not be closed. This immediately infuriated me because I despise being cold. When I mentioned this to the server she mentioned that she could move us to a different area (one table away from where we were - or somewhere by the bar inside). As I was there to celebrate my birthday I wanted to sit by a window so I chose to stay where I was. The tables by the window were supposedly for bigger parties but then I saw a 6 person table set up for a party of two which only further frustrated me because we COULD have easily been moved. The creamed corn which we’ve had several times was watery and WAYYYY overly seasoned with pepper. We returned it with nonissue. Our server was very nice but service was very very slow.
beautiful setting inside and out, excellent service, delicious food!
The hostess was rather rude - and seating took over 30 minutes, even though we arrived on time for our reservation. But once we were seated, the evening went very well.
We frequent the Beverly Hills location multiple times per year and it is a consistant experience. The food and service are for the most part 4-5 stars. My wife wanted to try the Malibu location for her birthday. We came with another couple. To begin the night, our reservation was for 5PM. We were not seated until well after 5:30PM. Yes, we were there on time and promptly checked in. The server was fine. No issues there. No pretzel bread. Why!? One of our guests had to return their steak to the kitchen as it was requested medium and came out closer to rare. The most memoribale event of the evening was after we arrived at home; we were all sick. We all had different entrees, so all I can think of is one of the sides we had were bad or the ice in the drinks. 2 of the 4 are feeling a little better, the other two are still in bed and heading to the bathroom multiple times per hour. Not the best experience.
Ordered the pork chop and requested no pink and it came back burned. I could only eat part of and had to cut the burned part away. I did not request a new one because one individual in our group requested the sea bass be done again because it was over cooked and it took forever to get it back.
Anniversary. I just wish they had seated us in the main dining room at a window ocean view.
