Mastro's City Hall Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
Our experience at Mastro’s left us disappointed and underwhelmed. We showed up on time for our reservation and still had to wait 20 minutes for our table to be ready. We tried to get a drink at the bar but the bartenders were so busy we couldn’t get their attention to order. Once seated, we waited another 5 minutes for our menus. The food was good but nothing blew us away. Overall, it felt like Mastro’s focuses more on high volume with a high energy dining experience rather than an intimate experience with great service. The live music was a nice touch, but didn’t make up for the disappointing service. Won’t return.
Okay were should I start. First, I had a 8:30 reservation didn’t get seated until 9pm, after I asked the attendee several times when will we be seated. We order 4 bone in ribeyes, 1 Filet Mignon, 2 lobster mash, 2 creamer corn, 2 sautéed shrimp, sushi, shrimp cocktail, oh and butter cake. 2 of the steaks were burned so bad I couldn’t even taste the natural flavors. The creamed corn lets just say they should have thrown that in the trash UGH. My husband got home and around 4 in the morning is pooping and puking from this $$$ food. I use to come here all the time and probably won’t ever come back, nor recommend this horrible food to anybody. The worst part is that we brought people with us and bragged about this food and that’s what we got. NEVER AGAIN!!!!
The service and the food was great. However, the noise level was horrible. The restaurant has horrible acoustics, so when people talk it is so loud. We were ready to leave the restaurant early because of the noise level. When my parents asked me where we went to eat, I told them Mastro’s. They said they stopped going to this restaurant because of the acoustics. My little girl was getting so upset because of the noise that I took her outside. When outside the restaurant, they had music blaring right outside the door. We went to go sit in our car while my husband got the bill. We all left this restaurant with a headache. Most likely won’t come back.
I would like to say that the restaurant was understanding of us being a little late. I really appreciated that , however, the third guest was a little more late. I called ahead of time and asked if we could still be seated without the third guest and they said it'd be fine. We arrived in the 30 minute window they kindly gave us and tried telling us we need the whole party in order to be seated. I mentioned to the host that we called before arriving and were told otherwise. After bringing that up, she allowed us to be seated. The woman who sat us down was really sweet. Fast froward, we loved the food but thought it was pricier than in reason. The waiters were fabulous and so were the bus-boys. They brought out a dessert for my friend (guest of honor) for her bday and the desert was generous which she really appreciated. We were seated in a noisy area which at times were TOO noisy but besides the minor things here and there that could use some improving, we all had a good time!
Great overall experience!! They were extremely busy this night (Pre Valentines) but the staff was right on. Service and food perfect. Will be back again and again. Treat you like first class. Server was nice and attentive. Even called the week after our visit to see if everything was to our liking (Nice touch!!)
Our favorite is Mastros North Scottsdale. Had family in town staying off Camelback so went to City Hall. The front waiter, Chris, was so much more personable than the main waiter. Ordered Brussel Sprouts ($13) waiter asked if we wanted them with bacon. SURE WHO DOESNT LOVE BACON?Our jaws dropped when the check came and we were charged $13 for Brussels sprout and $14 for the bacon. Woah! They did take it off the bill but holy cow . All else was great. Bummed they didn't have escargot like the original Mastros does.
Had a great experience at Mastro's. Service was friendly and efficient. Food was delicious, portions very large. I wish they offered smaller portions for those of us on business because the food goes to waste which is really unfortunate.
I have to give a shout out to them for being very ethical as well. I learned after arriving at my hotel that I left my wallet on the table and immediately called them to see if they found it. The hostess went to check and she said they had not, but while I was in the phone with her someone came up and told her they had take. It back to the safe, so they did have it. I was so happy and thankful that they have honest employees working for them.
Birthday...Service getting seated was terrible! Had a reservation at 8:45 PM. Checked in at 8:30 PM and requested dining room. Seat us in lounge at 8:50 PM and told the hostess unacceptable as way too noisy. Did’nt get seated until after 9:00 PM.
My guest's steak arrived at the table and it had a foul almost spoiled taste. They took the steak back and offered a replacement but my guest declined. Did offer deserts as a peace token.
The mood of the evening was dampened by this incident. Because of this, it will be hard to recommend this restaurant to others. Too many great steak houses in the area.
The food is always great here and this time was no different. The steak and seafood were excellent and the service was fantastic. Obviously you pay for all of this, but you do get what you are paying for.
My only complaint is how dark it is. Can't read the menus without my phone light.
Other than that I can't recommend them enough for a high end delicious meal.
Ordered the chefs cut 33oz ribeye and it was very under cooked. Ordered MR and came out blue, the inside was red and cold. (this was the second time in a month dining here that this happened. Been there three times in 6 weeks). They recooked the steak, but by the time it came out all of our sides were cold. Overall it wasn’t the high end meal we were hoping for.
Side note, our first time dining there 6 weeks ago was PHENOMENAL, which is why we came back 2 weeks later, and then again even though our second time was well below average.
Our server Chris was great, super attentive. The manager JMS made right on the undercooked steak and cold sides. We will be back.
Thanks Chris and JMS!
Waiter Mike (and all the wait staff) were on point and always helped each other out in serving. Filet I had was awesome, my partner’s had gristle. Gnocchi was incredibly decadent. Bread ok but not warm. Ate so much no room for the warm butter cake we wanted to try. Dining room very dated and dark. They should give everyone as a gift penlights to read the menu, or have lights on the table that can be adjusted. Without exception, all diners got out their phones to use the flashlights. That should give them a clue! Room was quiet until the drinks started flowing then people lowered their inhibitions and raised their voices! A millediot sat next to us wearing his baseball cap. This is fine dining not a brew pub!
Waited 25 minutes. Our table was still not ready. Then got offered a table at the extremely overcrowded lounge. Asked the hostess to cancel our reservation and went somewhere else. She was too lazy to cancel my reservation and they had the audacity to contact me inquiring why I did not show. Go figure. Very disappointing.
Mastros always knocks it Out of the park for us. We truly love the ambience and delicious food every time we go. Alex took care of us behind the bar and was exceptional. He was very easy to talk to and polite. I appreciated him taking the time to explain some new items as well as accommodating my dietary restrictions without any problem. He really made the night even more special and can’t wait to go back and dine with him again.
The food was fantastic, however, for the price you will pay you would expect all other aspects of your dining experience to be top notch. At Mastros that is not the case. The place is not intimate, we were elbow to elbow with other diners, the music was loud, service was slow, servers were dressed in Spirit Halloween Store quality outfits, and employees bumped into our table 3 times as they passed by. Thankfully nothing spilled. All in all, this place is so incredibly overrated. You absolutely do not get bang for your buck here. For a nice steakhouse, look elsewhere. For happy hour drinks and appetizers, it'll do.
My wife and I have dined here three times this month as it is our favorite restaurant. The first time, we had to send our steaks back because they were over cooked. The waiter was extremely attentive and the new steaks were amazing. The second time, our steaks arrived slightly over cooked but we were too embarrassed to send them back. This time, we informed the waitress that we had had these issues in the past and she assured us she would make sure it wouldn’t happen again. The “medium rare” steaks came brown all the way through. We pointed out the problems with my wife’s steak to the waitress. She responded by suggesting that we should order the steaks rare plus and explained that maybe we should get the steaks served on a cold plate. She took my wife’s steak but left mine. I used my phone flashlight to look at mine which caught the attention of the manager. She was much more attentive and extremely nice. We waited for the new steaks for about ten minutes. They arrived on cold plates, lukewarm and rare.
This is unfortunate because we love this place but I’m not going to spend another 250+ knowing we will probably Just have to go through the awkward experience all over again before we get what we actually ordered. We probably won’t be going back.
