Mastro's City Hall Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
Came back for a revisit after a disappointing visit a few weeks ago where the fish fell short of excellent. This evening’s dinner was excellent. We had the oysters Rockefeller, caeser salad, 24 oz porterhouse steak, mac and cheese, and 7 layer chocolate cake. Started with 2 great cocktails. Everything was 5 star. Will definitely keep this restaurant on our A-list.
It was great with the exception of my wife’s steak not being truly medium rare all the way through. There were parts that were medium to medium well. I wouldn’t normally think much of it but we dined at the same restaurant on Friday night and actually had to send both of our steaks back due to them being over cooked. I have been to this location and the one in Beverly Hills quite a few times and this has never happened before. I love Mastro’s so I feel bad even writing this but it’s hard to justify paying $60 a steak when it’s anything less than perfect.
Food was outstanding as alway. Our 13 year old grandson said it was the best meal he had ever had. Our waiter (Randy I believe) was wonderful and made our experience even better. Mastro's is our go to place for family celebrations. This visit was to celebrate our 43rd anniversary, our son and sister's birthdays, and our daughter-in-law receiving her doctorate.
The food was delicious. The service was good and the servers were very attentive. The only minus for this other wise great experience was the ambiance. It was too loud and very dark. I could not hear my husband and we had to use our phone flashlight to read the dinner and see our food.
The food itself was very good. I did Order the Oysters Rockefeller, And was a bit disappointed. I live in South Florida near the ocean so they’re very fresh here. The rest of the meal was excellent. The fillet mignon onion soup salad’s (very very fresh)
The only complaint that I have is that the service went way too fast. I had a 6 PM reservation with my niece who I had not seen in a while and requested for the meal to be very leisurely. Within a half hour I had my appetizer and they were now serving dinner. I was very upset and ended up having to get the manager to come over to slow things down. It’s definitely a place I would try again but would make sure that they understand. At those prices I do not want to be rushed out.
We went here for our annual year end family dinner. The sushi appetizers and ahi tostadas were superb. My daughter had a tuna avocado dish that she really enjoyed. Drinks were excellent. The salmon was good but not very good. The sea bass was fair. The service, however, was exceptionally good.
To the restaurant’s credit, when they called for a critique of the experience, I outlined the above. They were concerned and have offered to credit us for the fish at our next visit. We will take them up but I am fairly confident that we will order beef the next time.
This is a dark place. The lights are so low, many folks at neighboring tables had to use flashlights on phones to see the menu. We have visited the Mastro's in Palm Desert prior to this night which we had enjoyed the experience. Wait and support staff were attentive and helpful.
We had to be re-seated with one of the neighboring tables having children that were out of control. Our waiter wasn't happy when we asked for the new table. Oh well...
The new server and her support staff were attentive without being a drag. Gave very useful food ordering tips (I'd never heard of rare plus for ordering steak before). The food was prepared as we had come to expect - all perfect. I'm not sure with the noise level, the dark lighting and close proximity of neighboring tables if I'd ever pick this particular Mastro's again. There are three locations in Scottsdale - so I'm sure we can find one that is to our liking. Like I said, we've had a great experience in the Palm Desert location.
First time here from Canada. The best porterhouse I ever had. We also got the Mac n cheese which I didn’t find special, Brussels sprouts were divine, and the gnocchi was unreal. one thing I was REALLY looking forward to was the butter cake. I left a note on the reservation to ensure dessert says happy birthday on the cake. I was expecting the server to ask us which dessert we’d like..instead we were brought a chocolate cake.Saved room the whole dinner to ensure I got to try the butter cake.. That was disappointing because by then there was a candle and writing already on the cake so I didn’t want to make a hassle and return it. Would’ve been nice for the server to provide options for dessert instead. That aside server was very meticulous and pleasant!
My family had reservations for weeks, we waited 25 minutes to be seated without an apology. Our server, Gary was quite good. The food was delicious except for the special bacon which was disappointing. It tasted like ham. The crab claws were a special treat and the foie gras was the best I’ve had outside France. An enjoyable evening albeit more enjoyable if the lighting was brighter to see our food. We understand it was a holiday, so you were jammed.
Found Mastro's City Hall by accident when I was looking for 5 star restaurants in the Phoenix area. Did not find one that I really liked or met my expectation, so I searched in Scottsdale and found Mastro's, glad I did. Great experience for my family and friend.
