Mastro's City Hall Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
I’ve been coming here for years and this was my first bad experience. With a reservation, we had to wait almost 45 minutes to get seated !!! It was a work dinner and I was SO embarrassed and annoyed. The people upfront did not care at all. They were even rude to me about asking repeatedly what’s going on as I saw table after table get seated. If the food wasn’t just absolutely amazing, I would start going elsewhere.
I have been to three different Mastro's and all three have a different vibe. Personally the one in Beverly Hills is my favorite. However, the food was very good, steak cooked perfect, the lobster mashed was too oily, but the martinis are excellent. I'd still recommend it and the live music is always nice.
This was my third time at this particular Mastros and certainly the worst experience of the three. Server was friendly at first, but perhaps was put out when my wife only ordered a salad and appetizer; my brother and I both had steaks and ordered a bottle of wine. He had a bit of a superiority attitude. Steaks were awesome, spinach and wedge salad were quite ordinary. At their price point, I expect phenomenal service and food and this experience fell way short.
Very disappointed with not only our service but the food. We have been to other locations and never experienced this subpar service. We were in town for a business meeting and it was difficult to carry on any type of conversation due to the noise level.
The server appeared to be short and overwhelmed. We informed our waiter this was not our first visit however, he ignored us and continued to mention all the sides are family style as we attempted to order a variety of sides for our guests to enjoy.
Even though there were several assistants no one checked in our table to confirm if anything else was needed especially after the food arrived. My steak had to be returned and was not much better the second time around, burnt on the outside medium inside.
I observed several other diners also trying to get someone’s attention.
Furthermore as we waited for our meal we requested another bread basket for our waiter declined to bring one stating the portions are large and we did not need to fill up on bread! It was an awkward moment as our business associates sat back and listened to the rude response.
To wrap up our meal we ordered two butter cakes which we clearly mentioned would be shared amongst six adults, it would have been nice to have them plated instead of trying to cut them at the table, especially in a restaurant of this quality.
Needless to say we will not be returning to this location.
We go to Maestro’s City Hall frequently even though we don’t even live in Arizona. It’s a must go every time we are in town. We had amazing service from Lauren and all of the other waitstaff on this last visit. The restaurant was incredible busy, but that didn’t stop them from delivering the most amazing dinner experience. They really rolled out the red carpet for my mother’s birthday. From the seafood tower to the steak and gnocchi and the sensational dessert, you can not find food this good anywhere else. Looking forward to our next trip back.
The food and service was great. However we were seated in a back room away from the main dining area. It was way too quiet and cold there. We could heAr all of the conversations around us. Part of the reason we chose the restaurant was for it's fun and lively ambience. They should give you an otpion to sit in the main room or in the back room.
We love to eat at Mastro's City Hall when we visit Scottsdale. The food is delicious and the service is outstanding every time we are there. This last time was no exception-Garey, our server was amazing and attentive; the staff found a quiet table for us, even on a busy Friday night and we were treated to a delicious butter cake in celebration of our anniversary. Looking forward to our next visit to Scottsdale and Mastro's City Hall!
The dining experience from start to finish was outstanding. The service from the moment we entered was excellent. The waitstaff was friendly, not trying to push us through our meal, going out of their way to ensure we had a good dining experience. The steak was outstanding!! We would recommend this restaurant, and look forward to coming back again.
Having been to the Mastro's in northern Scottsdale twice, I was surprised (negatively) by the difference between the two locations. City Hall is definitely more casual and much louder, so loud in fact I had to shout at our dinner guests throughout the meal. The waiter began by trying to upsell everything we ordered. I mentioned I was allergic to shellfish and he actually suggested a surf and turf to me, I was astounded. Do they have free EPIpens? At over $100.00 per person (which was only including one bottle of wine) I was extremely disappointed. I'm sorry Mastro's, you're going to have to turn it down a bit before I try City Hall again.
Checked in with Madison - had a reservation. Waited while three parties walked in after us and were immediately seated. When I asked we were immediately seated with no explanation or apology. Server was inattentive, especially to the men in our party. Waited forever to order and for the check. Wrong drink brought to me with no apology or explanation.
I love Mastro’s and have been going here for years. However, this experience was subpar and it seemed that no one cared that it was. It was a $500 dinner that was just mediocre - I hope this is an anomaly since up until now I have believed this was the best steakhouse in the valley.
The only reason I am providing this review here on open table is because they never called to follow up on my experience - something they have never failed to do in the past. We have always received a follow up call to check on our experience. I hope this is not an indicator of things to come....
Mastro's City Hall is a nice, upscale steakhouse environment with live music and an active bar. Cocktails were great and bar service was attentive.
I was impressed with the Onion Rings we ordered for the table for appetizers but was sadly underwhelmed with the Lamb Chops that I chose for my dinner entree. I specified medium rare and received two racks of charred and tasteless chops. The creamed spinach and potatoes were less than stellar but acceptable. Service was exceptional. Ambiance good for a business dinner event.
Very attentive service. Side dishes very good. Medium rare filets served properly pink, but inexplicably flavorless, juiceless and dry ... perhaps pre-cooked. This is a repeated flaw at this restaurant. The steaks at Mastro’s in Scottsdale are significantly and consistently tastier and more carefully prepared.
The food was good but not as good as I would expected for the money. The lobster mashed potatoes were not as good as I expected for $38. The butter cake needed a sauce to make it moist. The steaks were good but needed additional flavor or sauce. The menu said the rib eye steak was $55 but I was charged $60. The restaurant was really noisy and crowded. Definitely not good if you are looking for a quiet date night. They also didn't acknowledge or ask about a special occasion which it was. I've been hearing about this place for years but it definitely didn't live up to the hype.
