Mastro's Signature Warm Butter Cake
New York Pepper Steak
The hostess gave our reservation to another party and said, “they had the same name, but not the same” so we had to wait an additional 15 minutes for another table. No apology was given. She just said that she was not the one who sat them. The managers just looked at us and never said a word. We hadn’t eaten all day and were very hungry. Our server was very good, however, the food was slow; they were very busy. The food was good. With all of the competition as a steakhouse in Old Town, you would think they would provide better service; it wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t good. There are other options that we would choose next time we feel like steak.
Amazing meal, service and food were very good. Only complaint is we were seated in the noisy bar, but our reservation was for a normal table. Other than that, amazing as usual.
The food was amazing! The steak, the shrimp cocktail, and the butter cake! Wonderful place!
7:15 reservation..sooooov5 mins till our server came over to greet us..ordered right away (we had plenty of time to look it over). Didn’t get our food till 8:40...sister’s 50th birthday, we live in Dallas and came to Phoenix for some fun!! I don’t think I had ever had such a bad experience anywhere, “D” our server popped by every now and then with no sense of purpose or just didn’t care...ugh! We didn’t even stick around for her “special” birthday dessert, which never came, so we grabbed a random server to help us pay out, got up and left. It just sucked. Food was okay probably could’ve been better but our whole evening was all messed up.
It was the first time my daughter met her grandfather due to COVID and we wanted to go somewhere special. The service was inexcusable for the amount we paid for that meal. Here are the worst offensives:
1) We waited more than 45 minutes for someone to take our food order.
2) My young daughter was hungry so we asked them to bring her food out first. Not only did it come after the grownups appetizers BUT IT WAS WRONG! They got her order wrong even though the waiter went into the kitchen to correct it.
3) Two of the 5 steaks were OVERCOOKED. When you go to an upscale steakhouse, the steaks should be perfect.
4) Coffee was ordered after the meal and my father never got his milk. He had to ask 2 times and his coffee was cold by the time he could drink it.
We went here for the food and service. Neither met our expectations and we won’t be back.
The server was not good at all his service was extremely poor
Let me start by saying that I've been a fan of City Hall for years.
Last weekend, my party arrived early, but still had to wait 25 minutes to be seated (reservation was made several weeks ago).
Additionally, the last two times I've been there I've been disappointed with the service. I chalked it up to an occasional 'off night' the first time, but was disappointed during this latest visit as well.
I have ten years of restaurant server experience, and I don't understand why any table needs three servers (this is excluding the gentleman who poured the wine). It felt like the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing.
Our appetizer order was incorrect. We ordered two dozen oysters and got one. We ordered the crab cakes, which were delicious, along with a shrimp cocktail that never arrived.
After our dinners arrived, not one of our three waiters came to see if we were satisfied with our meals.
The restaurant was incredibly noisy, even though we were in the quieter part of the restaurant. I know that noise level is hard to control, but our table of seven had a hard time hearing each other.
All in all, food was good, but I may be looking for a new place to celebrate with my family, especially for a price tag north of $1,000.
For the amount of money I paid the food it should have tasted better. The rack of lamb I ordered was burnt somewhat and it tasted nasty and it cost I believe 59 dollars. I sent that back and just got the chicken and it wasn't too much better. I should have just went to the Cheese Cake Factory for our 32nd wedding anniversary, the food is much better and cheaper. I WILL NOT be returning again.
Reservations at 6:45, waited 30 minutes to be seated. Ordered a bottle of wine, they forget to bring it, steak was way over cooked so we sent it back and then we were charged twice for that steak. Service of the restaurant doesn’t match the price.
Food was incredible
It was perfect! Great food and service. We enjoyed celebrating our dear friend’s birthday celebration and she was totally surprised! The Happy Birthday Mer at the top of the menu was the perfect touch!! Thank you for an amazing evening!
We were excited to celebrate our anniversary and thoroughly disappointed
Great service and conversation, when I visit again I will go again!!!!
Excellent, fun dinner for 4!! Great food and vibe, great service - Gary.
Will be back soon. loved it!
The house streak special was extraordinary, so extraordinary that my wife eats half and the table next to us ordered the same meal the exact way.
Our server was amazing
Go for the food, but stay for the EXCELLENT service! And count your lucky star if you happen to be served by 'Darren' and 'Alex.' Both are professionals at giving their guests exceptional service and worked together so no need was unmet.
The food, service, live music, and dessert we're amazing as always!
We enjoyed a wonderful evening at City Hall - the only challenge we had was our friend was an hour late and while awaiting her arrival we sampled your entire WORLD'S GREATEST Bread Basket and lobster bisque - both rich and filling therefore we never made it to the main meal! Our waiter was incredible! Thank you for your excellence in EVERYTHING Mastro's!
The food was good, and so was the ambience. The food is a little over priced, and my husband didn’t necessarily care for the flavor of his ribeye. The butter cake was outstanding and so was the lobster
Mac and cheese
Fabulous food and fantastic service! Enjoyed every minute of our dining night out at Mastro’s.
Perfect as always
Food is always delicious at Mastro’s. Service took a long time this time we went. Everything was great!
Waiter was hard to find when we needed the check or refills on drinks. Otherwise food was amazing
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary on Saturday the 10th of April with dinner. The staff were quite attentive and did well answering our questions and offered helpful recommendations. We were seated in the back dinning room away from the main dining section. Unfortunately, we were situated just below an air vent which was blowing quite strongly. We asked the staff a few times if it was possible to turn the air down but we were both quite chilled though our dining experience. Additionally, there were three very large noisy groups seated in our same area. The food however, was excellent, I had the pan seared Chilean sea bass and my husband had the fillet. The sides were quite generous and well seasoned. At the end of the meal the staff served us the signature desert complimentary, and the kitchen had written happy anniversary on the plate for us. My husband and I both agreed that the food made up for us being chilly and the noisy atmosphere.
Steak was undercooked and served on a barely warm plate thusly not able to self cook to the medium temperature that was ordered. Second time in a row steak was poorly cooked and chewy. They have shrunk the filet sizes and eliminated the 12 oz filet and 16 oz bone in filet. Have discontinued the true shoe-string fries. Used to go all the time, but now it has lost its former form as a top steakhouse. Covid claims another victim.
Excelente comida y ambiente
I was disappointed with the food. Four of us ordered different items, and nothing we ordered tasted that great. Everything was overcooked except the lobster mashed potatoes, which I could have eaten as my main entree. That was an excellent side dish, and the signature butter cake for dessert was amazing.
However, will not dine here again for dinner.
We were pretty disappointed with the food and ambiance in the dining area. The crab cakes and butter cake were very good but our wedge salad, lobster, steaks and drinks were pretty awful. The lobster tasted under cooked and had no flavor. The steaks weren’t flavorful and the wedge salad was very dry and plain. The drinks were pretty but not tasty. The dining area was so dark you could hardly see anything. It could be brightened up a little so you don’t feel like you’re in a dungeon. Overall not worth the price and I think this will be our last time dining here.
Other than needing a flashlight to see the menu, it was awesome.
Had a great night here for my birthday, music was fantastic, patio area was nicer than I anticipated, drinks and food arrived faster than expected , waiters were extremely attentive. My guests and I really loved the personalized menus for my birthday and the birthday dessert at the end was phenomenal ( I don’t even like sweets but this butter cake made me change my mind) . Highly recommending to everyone already, best night ever !
Went here on the first night of an 8 day vacation and it was the best of the trip! Everything about our experience was perfect. Quality food, ambiance, & the service were just outstanding.
Still nice but service was not up to previous standards. Waitress was less than enthusiastic to be working. Food was good/okay. Need to step their game to compete with new steakhouses in area.
They did ask if it was a special occasion and we said our anniversary although that was as fat as that went. That was the only bummer. Fun place
Must be a covid prob w service...my daughter didn’t care for the steak which was disappointing considering high reviews. Hot stone Wagyu and we got 32 Oz Tomohawk wagyu but both tasted frozen/old...wife was fuming...Asked 3 diff people that were clearing table for bread but no bread...asked third guy for our actual waiter and he looked at me like he didn’t understand word waiter. Bread came when we’re done w steak as well as second glass of wine. I tried to order butter cake but waiter wanted me to finish steak first..I just asked for check when he came back...still left 25% because of covid but they wanted a review so here it is...My wife was fuming and had me cancel Dominicks later in week because didn’t want to risk another poor experience at that price on our last night. Servers looked overwhelmed so think it was more of a management problem and understaffed w experienced servers w covid. Positives were the shrimp cocktail, French onion soup, and salmon sashimi app...those were all great but came there for the steak...I’ll give a Mastros owned restaurant another shot next time I come back after covid restrictions and fully staffed.
Felt like Michael did not have time to take care of us. It was Easter - maybe they were short staffed. Waited a LOMG time -twice- for a drink, and also to order. Food was excellent.
I really really enjoy dining at Mastro's City Hall Steakhouse and everything is always best in class. The steak is excellent and I live for the butter cake. My only nit is that it is just a little too dark in the dining area especially during the day. But! That is certainly not going to prevent me from enjoying a great meal.
GREAT food, cocktails, and service! Never disappoints!
Great service and food. Excited to go back again.
The first half service was decent, the second we were forgot about. Dessert took about 40 min, manager came to say sorry and walked away. Didn't offer any explanation or compensation. Extremely disappointed.
