Mastro's City Hall Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
Business dinner event...steaks are the way to go! I ordered the fish and asked the waiter to confirm it would be well done...his arrogant response was...of course, it’s not sushi! When the plate was presented, it was raw and cold. While they apologized and brought it back warm and cooked, no offer to comp a meal or have a dessert on the house was offered. My guests had to watch me eat! Very uncomfortable situation in a business setting.
Stick with the steak and don’t expect any accommodations for the table if something goes wrong.
We have been to Mastros multiple times when visiting Scottsdale. Our experience on Friday evening was awful! We had an 8:30pm reservation and did not get a table until after 9:30pm. People that were walking in behind us with no reservations were getting tables before us. One table of 4 was eating dessert before we had a table. The front desk girls were incredibly unfriendly and gave us the run around instead of helping us out. We finally asked for a manager and nothing was done. Extremely dissappointed. We were leaving and someone came over and pulled us from the door saying our table was ready. Nothing was comped, a manager never apologized, nothing was done. When we got to our table our server and food was great! Horrible experience and I definitely not suggest this to anyone visiting. We will not be back.
Food was amazing. We had steak, gnocchi, mashed potatoes, brussell sprouts, creamed spinach, burrata, a great bottle of wine and the butter cake. A lot of food for 4 people but we were able to take most of the leftovers home. Steak was a perfect medium rare - not too chewy and incredibly flavorful without any additions. Burrata with tomatoes was one of the freshest tasting burratas I had ever had. I'm usually not a big fan of gnocchi but it was so light and fluffy and the restaurant was willing to give us the crab on the side as some of our party didn't eat it. The other sides were very tasty, though not that much different from what you'd typically get at a steakhouse. The butter cake - O.M.G. SO AMAZING. I was so full but I couldn't stop devouring it. We split it between all 4 of us and we still couldn't finish it!
The steaks are very good, but for a lower price, you can get this quality at other places. The salads were good.
The chocolate layer cake was terrible. It could not possibly be fresh, and it had no flavor. No one at the table took more than one bite, even though it was huge. The waiter offered no apology when we remarked that it wasn't very good. He didn't seem surprised. The key lime pie was not very good either. The crust was wet, like the pie had been made a few days before.
The creamed corn was good, but it was $13. The Brussel sprouts were just boring and the group ate very few and left the remaining $14 dish to sit. They also charged $8 per bottle of plain water to go along with the wine. They just kept refilling the glasses, with no mention of a charge.
For the money, the food just isn't good enough. We had 3 people and with 1 bottle of basic wine, we had a bill of over $500. I won't be back.
Great food and amazing service! Just what you'd expect from a high end steak restaurant. The atmosphere was surprisingly upbeat & fun for the type of restaurant. I liked that it had a lively feel with your fancy food. Live music in the lounge was great too.
Our waiter Allan was fabulous!! Only issues we had was that it was TOO DARK inside, & had a very hard time reading wine list because FONT WAY TOO SMALL!! Also, wish they had steak offerings of smaller portions. The only reasonable was the filet 8oz, & I don’t like filet. The size of the steaks were way too BIG!! Limited choices because of SIZE.
A vagas style restaurant puts in the center of Scottsdale downtown. Noisy and poor service. My chair got knocked by the waiters/bus boys for a dozen time when they walked by without a word of apology. Waiters remind me seeing those on the horseback of the westerns. Apparatus are uncooked. A bad experience that I will not repeat, let alone recommendation. No thanks.
We were having dinner with family that we don't get a chance to see too often. Our waiter was outstanding! He gave us all the time we needed to "catch up" before we even had a chance to order. We never felt rushed during our entire dining experience. It was really appreciated by all at the table. The food was great, but it's the service that really stood out.
I’ve been coming here for years and this was my first bad experience. With a reservation, we had to wait almost 45 minutes to get seated !!! It was a work dinner and I was SO embarrassed and annoyed. The people upfront did not care at all. They were even rude to me about asking repeatedly what’s going on as I saw table after table get seated. If the food wasn’t just absolutely amazing, I would start going elsewhere.
I have been to three different Mastro's and all three have a different vibe. Personally the one in Beverly Hills is my favorite. However, the food was very good, steak cooked perfect, the lobster mashed was too oily, but the martinis are excellent. I'd still recommend it and the live music is always nice.
This was my third time at this particular Mastros and certainly the worst experience of the three. Server was friendly at first, but perhaps was put out when my wife only ordered a salad and appetizer; my brother and I both had steaks and ordered a bottle of wine. He had a bit of a superiority attitude. Steaks were awesome, spinach and wedge salad were quite ordinary. At their price point, I expect phenomenal service and food and this experience fell way short.
Very disappointed with not only our service but the food. We have been to other locations and never experienced this subpar service. We were in town for a business meeting and it was difficult to carry on any type of conversation due to the noise level.
The server appeared to be short and overwhelmed. We informed our waiter this was not our first visit however, he ignored us and continued to mention all the sides are family style as we attempted to order a variety of sides for our guests to enjoy.
Even though there were several assistants no one checked in our table to confirm if anything else was needed especially after the food arrived. My steak had to be returned and was not much better the second time around, burnt on the outside medium inside.
I observed several other diners also trying to get someone’s attention.
Furthermore as we waited for our meal we requested another bread basket for our waiter declined to bring one stating the portions are large and we did not need to fill up on bread! It was an awkward moment as our business associates sat back and listened to the rude response.
To wrap up our meal we ordered two butter cakes which we clearly mentioned would be shared amongst six adults, it would have been nice to have them plated instead of trying to cut them at the table, especially in a restaurant of this quality.
Needless to say we will not be returning to this location.
We go to Maestro’s City Hall frequently even though we don’t even live in Arizona. It’s a must go every time we are in town. We had amazing service from Lauren and all of the other waitstaff on this last visit. The restaurant was incredible busy, but that didn’t stop them from delivering the most amazing dinner experience. They really rolled out the red carpet for my mother’s birthday. From the seafood tower to the steak and gnocchi and the sensational dessert, you can not find food this good anywhere else. Looking forward to our next trip back.
The food and service was great. However we were seated in a back room away from the main dining area. It was way too quiet and cold there. We could heAr all of the conversations around us. Part of the reason we chose the restaurant was for it's fun and lively ambience. They should give you an otpion to sit in the main room or in the back room.
