and superb craft drinks.
Brian our server was outstanding. Attentive and explained everything.
Anyone who knows and appreciates authentic pasta dishes or wants the best napolitano pizza in the country, Mast become their favorite restaurant. Great, professional service.
I want to preface this review with mention that I am a server and have served at multiple restaurants of the same caliber. What we experienced was beyond what is acceptable, holiday or not. We did not get our food for 2 hours. Our reservation was at 8pm and we were served our entrees at 10pm. We were not greeted by any waitstaff for over 25 minutes or given water/bread. We were never asked if we wanted refills. We ordered our whole meal at the same time as drinks (being that we had about half an hour to read the menu before a server came over) including a lemonade, an iced tea 2 appetizers and two pasta dishes. It took about 15 minutes to receive our lemonade and iced tea. We decided against ordering alcoholic beverages because we felt it would take forever. Took 45 minutes for appetizers to come out they were small and super oily. There were other customers who sat after us and got their food and left before we got our main dish, being that it arrived an hour and 15 minutes after we got our appetizers. When the food got there our waiter, Bryan, spoke to us very condescendingly and said “here’s your food kids”. We are a couple in our twenties supporting ourselves. It felt passive aggressive. We were very understanding and polite through the entire experience, however, I did not feel that was returned by this staff. It was also Valentine’s Day and every couple came in carrying a rose gifted by the staff but we were never offered one. Overall the food was ok, the portions were small, the service was terrible and we left still hungry and feeling disrespected. We were very excited to try a new place out and were disappointed that this was our experience.
Had dinner with Italian friends who were impressed. The noise level is good for conversation. The food was excellent. Two of us had pizza - wonderful crust, excellent choices for toppings. Real Neopolitana pizza. The octopus was perfect - tender and very tasty. Salads were great.
Very nice wine selection as well and reasonably priced. The service was really outstanding - native Italian personnel.
Good food and good service; the pasta dish with wild mushrooms and sausage is our favorite
Excellent, quick service, and the food was quite good as well; we were stopping in for lunch; I would definitely come back again
The food is truly amazing! It reminds me of my time in Italy!
Very good food, and timely service. Lots of options. The chef came out to visit!
I would recommend it for food but that’s pretty much it, service was laim. We had to ask the waiter to bring bread and oil to the table, bread was very cold, we don’t know if this is the norm. The order was quite wrong, got fixed quickly though. Cocktails were brought in beer glasses. We expected better, unfortunaltey is not a place that we would go back again, maybe for a quick meal or to go.
Great experience and fantastic service for a real Neapolitan pizza
Excelente lugar y la comida muy buena
We had a couple of pizzas and wine which were excellent. It was a nice atmosphere and a very relaxing Saturday evening.
Excellent, authentic Napolitano dishes. Unique and best pizza around. Great service and value.
Food was OUTSTANDING and the service extended was filled with a waiter with patience, compassion, and knowledge.
Disappointed with our waiter. Dirty glass so sent drink back. Last meal in party of 5 came almost ten minutes after all the others. Ravioli was luke warm. Rather underwhelming overall unfortunately. Last visit was much better in fall.
Made reservations for lunch with colleagues. We were the first few patrons that afternoon. Restaurant was cold (three of six of us kept coats on, they didn’t have brewed coffee available, only espresso and cappuccino; took a while for food to come out; food itself was underwhelming. The server was pleasant, asked about allergies, and responsive to requests for condiments, etc. Per colleagues who had been there before, this was not typical service, atmosphere or food quality. Would only recommend after going a second time and having a better experience with everything.
Really good restaurant food and service I recommend this place
Waiter was pleasant but the place was cold when we were there and they were very stingy with the bread.
Brian was an unbelievable server. He was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, had awesome energy, and had us laughing. We really enjoyed our meal and will absolutely be back again!
Great place to grab dinner before a concert or show. Great food, great drinks, and the pizza is ready in minutes if you’re on a tight schedule.
Very tasty pizza, reasonably priced and friendly staff! Would definitely go again.
Nice restaurant close to downtown crossing. Staff were very attentive and helpful. Good menu choice and food was excellent very tasty. Pleasant ambience, only difficulty were the high stools which were difficult for our elderly relative. Overall a good restaurant
We had a very bad experience. It was our first time at Mast - we had a 7pm kids’ concert at the Orpheum. The service was terrible. The kitchen forgot about our order (placed at 6pm) and we didn’t get our food until 6:50 when I complained. We had 5 minutes to eat our food which was so-so. When I complained, the staff was alternately confrontational and disinterested, very unprofessional. And the restaurant was full of little kids and they were showing an UFC/MMA show on their large screen tv. It was terrible all around and we will never go back. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone for any occasion.
Our experience wasn't great. The staff was very disorganized and seemed overwhelmed by the influx of diners on a Friday night- so much so, that even after an hour and twenty minutes our meals still had not arrived- with no acknowledgement from our waitress. We didn't get to eat before we had to leave to make it to our show. Thankfully, a kids pizza and a salad arrived in reasonable time, and the kids enjoyed that. We also ordered each a glass of wine and despite asking for another, it never came. What was the most disappointing, however, was the staff response: our waitress made it seem like if we could just wait longer the food would eventually arrive (bizarre) and there was no manager in sight to address the issue or apologize for the service. Ultimately, this seems like a spot that has decent cuisine, but the management and operations made it one we wont soon be returning to.
Very, very disappointed on this visit. I invited another couple and had raved about Mast based on numerous prior visits. The pizza is wonderful and reminds us of trips to Italy. However, on this night, the service was horrible. My friend ordered a beer - it came with no glass. We had to ask 3x for the glass. Dinner came and was served by another staff member. Our waiter took another 20+minutes before coming over to see if we needed anything- and that was after I flagged him down. He wasn’t busy - he was seen standing chatting with his co- workers upstairs and downstairs.
The kitchen is in the basement. Food is transported in an elevator - however, it’s not covered in transit. I have some health code concerns on that practice.
The accessible toilet in the woman’s room was out of order. Actually, the tank was broken so it didn’t just happen. Why aren’t customers advised upon entrance?
Again - the food is delicious but I’m not sure it’s worth the service and other issues we encountered.
Took almost an hour before we even received our food. Terrible service, we only saw our waitress on three separate occasions throughout the night. The place seemed very disorganized - the host was confused about reservations and the waitress was searching all over for a drink menu. Food was alright, but not worth dealing with that service again.
Service was extremely slow (almost non existent), several menu items not available.
Arrived on time, seated in the basement bar with wobbly tables and no service except the bartender who was managing the whole room and bar which must have been 60+ people. Food was very good but overpriced for the quantity. I also thought the menu was limited. Very little options if you wanted anything with red sauce.
Nice location in Downtown Crossing, with upstairs and downstairs seating. I liked their cozy downstairs bar. Once seated though, there were problems. The bar and tables were served by the same single waiter/bartender. We noticed our neighbors pizzas arrived quickly, but our appetizer (burrata) and meals (salmon and veal) took about 35 minutes. We'd advised of rushed circumstances, and the waiter knew, but the kitchen couldn't keep up.
The food itself, with nice plate appeal, wasn't very good. The burrata appetizer was tasty, but 3 heavily vinegared peppers were not easy to eat, and didn't lend themselves to dipping or as a scoop. The salmon was raw in the middle, inedible. The veal scallopini was greasy, with only a few microgreens and no starch to cut the oil. We might try it again and go for pizza, but we're generally disappointed.
- made a 6 pm rez on open table
- hostess said couldn’t find us on list and then found us in 6:15 slot. When we arrived she fought with us bc we arrived at 5:59 and said we can’t seat you until 6:15 I said why that’s weird and showed her my phone that says open table conformation 6:00 pm. She said they were packed - but I saw 10 + open tables. Then told us we had 1 hour and 15 min allotment to dine there tonight!!! (Excuse me?!?) it was SO rude. So as we were paying our bill the waitress came over 5 x to see if we paid yet
And then 2 hostesses circled around to see if we had gotten up yet and we said “don’t worry we are leaving!!!” As we were putting on coats - 3 servers or busboys swooped in and grabbed our napkins silverware and drinks. Jeez Louise!
The closest to Napoli you can get from Boston. Great dough and ingredients!
We had a horrible experience. They expect to have one bartender wait on all the people at the bar and the tables. It was out of control. People were complaining all around us for not getting their drinks or food. The upcharge on their cosmopolitans are really strange and nothing I have ever seen before. The bartender was great, but it was too much for one person to handle. One waiter brought our pizza to the bar and said is this yours and pretty much tossed it at us. Very strange. Management came out and he was no better trying to console the diners at tables. It was a horrible experience. I would never go back again.
Food great. Will go back. Panini was more like a calzone, perhaps kitchen adjustment? Still good, just odd.
Delicious chicken Parmesan! We had a great meal and great service!
We were looking for something close to Boston Common and came across Mast. When I realized it was right behind the nine-zero hotel that made it easy to get to coming from the Common garage (10 minute walk). It was quiet when we arrived and we were seated immediately. Our server was very good. We liked that they had large bottles of water, both flat and sparkling, ready on the table. We ordered a caprese appetizer which was an interesting and delicious take. We then enjoyed a few different pasta dishes. Gnocchi, cannelloni (stuffed with slow braised pork & beef) and casarecce - all fantastic.
Overall I'd say this is an excellent Italian restaurant with a homey feel, warm and inviting atmosphere with attentive, friendly service in a great location (although parking can obviously be tricky in this area).
Pizza and pasta both delicious. My parents came to visit from Naples, Italy and they loved it!
"Mast" is authentic Italian pizza at its finest. Having spent a great deal of time in Italy, we have often longed for the authenticity that is many times completely missing from the broad term "pizza". "Mast" does it the right way. We love this place.
The pizza was really good, one of the best I’ve tried so far in Boston. Great service, very good selection of wine and desserts - absolutely recommended!
Food was good here and the pizzas are very good. It’s just the service was so lacking. After sitting down we waited about 15 minutes just to order drinks. Our appetizers came out relatively quick but our meals were just forgotten about. They were good once we got them but attentiveness was no where. It seemed we weren’t the only table that was experiencing this as I saw a few other patrons complaining about various issues. The place was cool but no desire to head back.
There was a problem and our food took over an hour (all we ordered was pasta). The water also was not refilled and the longer the delay it felt like everyone was avoiding our table rather than come by to explain what was happening or apologize. At the end, they took nothing off the bill. The waiter was apologetic but that’s not enough. Very disappointing.
