I have been here numerous times. This time, for some reason, things were SLOW, both in the taking of the order (after 20 minutes) and the arrival of the first course (20 more minutes and a complaint). The food was delicious, even though things took so long. Don't think it was only the waiter; also a slow kitchen.
And they were not THAT busy that night.
Alas... I know they can do better and I WILL give them another chance.
Fresh salads. Attentive servers. Excellent Italian fare.
We celebrated my husbands birthday with his Dad and girlfriend. The service, food and ambience was outstanding! This was our second time at the restaurant and we will definitely be back!
Nice place to have lunch or dinner, especially before the theater at Lesher. It's right across the street. It's pretty quiet and you can actually have a real conversation.
I would give 10 stars to Massimos if I could! Massimos is a great place to have a business meeting. The food is fantastic. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. Thank you!
Very good meal served by an even better waiter. We were very early for a pre-show meal at Lesher, so he had time to explain some dishes, make us feel comfortable, etc. It was a delightful meal & experience.
Excellent food. Fresh crisp salads. Great Waldorf Salad. Delicious desserts and entrees.
We love to walk across the street from Lesher Center of the Arts and enjoy a Wonderful dinner at Massimo's. It never disappoints us. See you again soon. Janet
We normally enjoy dining at Massimo's, however last Saturday night it was jammed and the noise level was painful. Your starting to pack too many people into too small a space. We will rethink our next visit.
A comfortable old-fashioned Italian restaurant, of the type fast disappearing from the restaurant scene. Good place for quiet conversation and a decent if not exciting meal. Food is good, not inspired; but execution is excellent which helps. Salmon was generous size and beautifully handled. Prawns flamed with tequilla, avocado and cilantro made an unusual and pleasing addition to a Caesar although salad was overdressed. Gnocchi w/shrimp and cherry tomato sauce was rather dull. Desserts are a "B": apple tart was overcooked apples and panna cotta on the heavy/rich side. Very good service; staff is well-trained.
Great spot for dinner pre-show, convenient to parking and theater.
Absolutely spectacular! Service was off the hook! Our Server was friendly, smart, professional.... yet very personable. She made our dining an outstanding experience.
Our server was very attentive and made our friend’s birthday celebration a nice one.
I was having a craving for pasta and found this had high reviews. Our waitress was very sweet. The food was fine, but it fell short from other homemade pasta locations. It was busy so we must have been there on an off night.
Danielle our server was fantastic! We would definitely go back when we are in the area.
Great service, food and ambiance. We were there early in the week so it was not crowded and was quiet. Booth seat was perfect for relaxed and private conversation. Server was prompt and acccomodating and overall a great experience. Neither of us had been there before. The food was exceptional other than the chocolate sin cake - it was too spongey and very eggy. But two thumbs up on the linguini Massimo and wild salmon spinach risotto.
Relaxed atmosphere, very good food and the service was excellent. Our server Shawna was a pleasure to talk to, and she allowed my wife to customize her entree so that she got exactly what she wanted. We'll definitely be going back to Massimo's!
It's such a rare thing nowadays to visit a restaurant with delicious food and to be able to have a conversation with others in a pleasant atmosphere. There were four of us wanting to have a yummy meal while catching up with each other. Massimo's really fills the bill. I'm partial to the risotto with wild boar ragu while my husband loves the duck confit. All four of us were super pleased with our selections, the wine list and wonderful service. Everything was just right.
Excellent food + top flight service = an outstanding dining experience
Delicious meal that stood out from the other ho-hum / just ok meals so many restaurants provide. Half off wine was a nice bonus. Really tasty halibut special with red pepper fettuccine --generous portion but didn't leave you feeling stuffed. Husband enjoyed the carbonara and said it was really really good. We will come back. :-)
Always great food and service. Can’t beat this long time Walnut Creek gem
Had been here several years ago and enjoyed very much. My experience this time was a little disappointing. I had looked at the menu on line and the meal that I selected at the restaurant, which, I thought was the same was not. It was good, but I had my taste set for something else.
Very nice venue: attractive, fine food, and attentive service.
My wife and I have been trying various restaurants in the area and picked Massimo given its high ratings. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were told that because we had made the reservation earlier that day, we could not be seated in the main dining room, despite the fact that there were several vacant dining room tables that remained vacant throughout the duration of our meal. Our options were to sit either by the bar or outside. Given it was Saturday night and we were unlikely to find a reservation elsewhere, we opted for outside.
The quality of the food was sub-standard. The antipasto platter was not fresh and the pasta seemed like it came out of a box. For the prices, I'd expect fresh pasta. My veal was pretty good, but everything else was just sort of not quite right. My wife, who was born in Naples, Italy, felt like most of the menu items were inauthentic - e.g., cream based clam dishes, chorizo (??), etc.
Icing on the cake: Because of the last minute seating snub, I received an email from Open Table a few days later saying that my reservation was ineligible for points, I suppose because we were seated outside. Not that I'm hugely concerned with my point balance, but it was what prompted me to take the time to write this review. Honestly, it's probably the second bad review I've ever written in my life - we are typically pretty easy to please. We won't be going back here again.
We had been to Maximo when we firest arrived in Walnut Creek, 27 years ago. And didn’t return until now. We should have just stayed away. But the reviews made it sound wonderful. My wife started with the mixed green salad, which had lots of greens but the vinegarettc dressing had practically no vinegar. Someone came and doused it with lots of vinegar. My Tower of Heirloom Tomatoes was swimming in oil and the waiter just kept pouring on the vinegar. The Heirloom tomatoes were not as good as a tomato grown in our back yard.
For the main courses Amy had the steak, which she couldn’t eat, and I had sautéed sole with risotto. The fish was tasteless wasn’t creamy. No dessert. It’ll be another 27 years before we go back.
A very comfortable restaurant with a nice ambiance. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. The menu is pretty straightforward Italian food which is nicely executed. I had a veal marsala which was delicious. Portions are large. Prices are very fair.
The food was good, the service was good and we liked the 50% off a bottle of wine so much, we had two.
Despite placing us in as quiet a location as possible (thank you!), the sound level was "animated."
Have dined at Massimo’s on several occasions over the past 6 months and each visit has been outstanding ! The food was amazing and the servers were very attentive. Will continue to recommend to friends.
We came for our anniversary and birthday! Simply amazing. Danielle and the staff took such great care of us and the courses were out of this world. We will be coming back!
We come all the time because it’s close and always outstanding. We brought friends that hadn’t been there in years, they were pleasantly surprised at the extraordinary experience
We always relax and enjoy our dinner at Massimo. It is peaceful, beautiful and the service is excellent.
First-timer. Delicious food, great service for a pre-theater dinner with my mom. Our server Brian was attentive but not overbearing, offered suggestions when asked, and contributed to a very enjoyable dining experience. Would definitely go back.
We have eaten at Massino’s a number of times and it never fails to be a wonderful experience. It is a white-tablecloth fine dining restaurant with gracious service (no matter who is serving), a very nice ambiance, and great food. There is a full bar as part of the restaurant and an outside dining patio. And occasionally there is live music. The filet mignon was excellent as was the pork chop. The wine list is extensive with a large number of selections by the glass. Also, there is a nice menu of craft cocktails (try the Godiva chocolate martini – mmmm). A parking garage is located across the street.
My first time at Massimo's. Will definitely come again.
I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. It was casual, yet had that sophisticated atmosphere. It also had a full bar, which is rare these days. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Very Italian and very tasty. The ambiance was that of a fine restaurant. I would definitely go again.
Food was very salty. Our table wasn’t ready when we arrived and then they were going to stick us in a corner but we asked to be moved.
Wonderful experience! Food was delicious and service was great! My family and I had great time!
Every dish was excellent. The shrimp cocktail was so great shrimp so fresh and cocktail sauce tasty. The salads are excellent. The salmon was perfection as was the special halibut
Service from Laurie superb
We were fortunate to have Danielle as our server, she is pleasant and efficient with a good sense of humor. My Veal Scallopine was cooked perfectly. My wife enjoyed her Halibut with polenta. It was a nice piece of fish that was not over cooked like many restaurants prepare theirs!
Loved sitting outside. The food was delicious and our server went out of her way to make sure we were satisfied
