I highly recommend this restaurant. We have dined here 3 times in the last 3 months. The dinners were all very good. The Waldorf Salad is exceptional. And, the Raspberry Creme Brulee was out of this world! My only complaint was that the noise level was high. It seems that most restaurants are like this now given the popularity of dining in Walnut Creek.
Excellent food and service ! Quiet and near the window !
Nice old restaurant in downtown Walnut Creek.
Food and service was excellent as usual.
Massimo has been a dependable friend for as long as I can remember (over a 15 years). Food is always good. Staff is always good. I always look for a special occasion to have an excuse to dine there.
Service was exceptional
Everything was great, but disappointed that nothing was done
to acknowledge our anniversary, even though you knew about it
ahead of time when the reservation was made. (Maybe a cupcake
with a candle on it or something.)
Food and service were, as always, excellent. However, The tables are pretty close together. A large, loud party next to us was a bit distracting, and one of them kept scooting his chair back and running into one of the people at our table. Groups larger than 4 should probably be seated in the other section of the restaurant.
Great find, haven’t been since high school
Enjoyed coming for business meal and enjoyed the service. We had a waitress that truly finds joy in her job, what s true blessing. Will definitely return for the dining experience
Great experience. Greeted nicely, seated right away at a window table. Appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts were all fresh flavors and perfectly prepared. $20 corkage fee. We brought our own bottle set aside for a special occasion. One of our neighborhood gems and have enjoyed this restaurant for many, many years. Belated Valentine’s Day dining was enjoyable.
Great table in back of restaurant. Couldn't have had better service. Delicious food. We look forward to going back.
I have been here 4 times for dinner and enjoy the service everytime. The same staff is there everytime and I love the owner who greets u at the door and walks around talking with a glass of wine in his hand.it feels like an authentic Italian atmosphere. Sometimes it gets a little loud in there so it’s not a super great spot for a first date but wonderful for old friends getting together and birthday bashes. This is my go to fave Italian spot!
Everything was just average. The food was average at best. Not impressed at all. I had made the reservation and mentioned it was a birthday celebration but nobody acknowledged it.
Great location in downtown Walnut Creek with good food, especially the Hanger Steak. The Salmon was ok, nothing special. Had an Apple- Tini , watered down and tasteless, the pomegranate-tini was the same. We were seated quickly and brought menus and water right away, then the server disappeared. After a long wait the server returned to take drink orders but never asked if we wanted an appetizer or if we were ready to order. Once our drinks arrived I had to ask for bread and that we wanted an appetizer. From this point on the server was more attentive but we noticed other servers were attending their tables with great efficiency. Bottom line, service left much to be desired, room was very loud, drinks watered down, food was good to great, and a nice wine list. I will go back with reservations as we may have had a bad server.
Excellent location, quiet, attentive service, and my chicken sandwich selection was very enjoyable.
Food was great and service was fine. Bread was great!
Always consistent delicious food. We have been coming to Massimo since we moved to Walnut Creek 22years ago and always enjoy the service, ambience and food!!
Overall a great restaurant. Excellent food and very attentive service. The only negative was that it was our anniversary and I'd requested a private corner table and we were instead seated at a table with about two feet on either side right next to two other couples. My wife was a bit annoyed but after a glass of wine we settled in and enjoyed our meal.
The food and service was excellent. I highly recommend Massimo's the staff are very professional and attentive.
Green vegetables should be included with the main dishes.
We go there often and are never disappointed. The food is always delicious, and the service exemplary.
Our server was excellent, knew the menue well, did some extra things for us, was attentive, but not overally so. She also was most efficient, friendly, and professional. The pasta dishes were delicious.
We had a wonderful time at Massimo's celebrating my birthday last year, so we returned for Valentine's Day. This time, however, was less enjoyable because of the noise level. The clamor made it difficult for my wife and I to hear each other, and the live piano as well! Our waiter said that the noise level on Saturday nights is a 'hit or miss proposition'. Despite this, our meals were excellent and so was the service. We usually have dessert and coffee after our meal, but we decided to leave after dinner and stopped at another restaurant down the street for this.
food was very good, servings adequate, accommodated several requests for changes, wine menu extensive and reasonable pricing. will definitely be back. service was excellent
Another great dining experience as we celebrated my wife's birthday. The consistency of the food preparation is top of the line! Great dishes are staples on the menu, with specials always thrown in for just the right amount of diversity. We love this restaurant!
Food consistently good, attentive service and good ambiance.
Friendly staff, very good food. Dining area spacious, but dimmed lighting created nice, cozy atmosphere. Would make this a regular dining spot if we lived closer.
Way too loud. Impossible to have a conversation. Food and service not good enough to make this worthwhile.
Massimo's Restaurant is a very reliable place to dine with good food and service. It's across the street from the Lesher Center and convenient when my friends and I attend performances there. There are always interesting specials on the menu.
Food had no taste tables are too close together way too expensive for the quality
Great Restaurant. We went ar 5 PM were the first guest, one hour later the place was full and louder. Food and service were great.
Well, I came this restaurant Twice and had very good experiences for both time - so I decided to pick this one for my birthday dinner -It was a group of 6pp incl. me.
I thought it is nice to use the coupon ( which I received by mail) for the b-day dinner.
Not sure if the discount was applied (since my bf paid quietly before everyone noticed ... I handed the coupon to the waitress... she didn’y come back to the table so not sure the total bill was adjusted ???
Not just about this , unlike the server I had in the past , this server was not attentive ( even though it was very quiet night)
we couldn’g find her to ask for the bread , wine , .. etc.
My b-day cake (beautiful cheese cake which my friend made it for me was half melted - I guess it was not put in the cold place)
Then over all service was so slow!!!!
I am not sure if I want to come back this restaurant again ....
There were 5 of us and the noise level made it hard to converse across the table. The food was good, but the veal was too thick and tough. The lasagna was very good. The scallops very worth trying, although only 2 small scallops. It is not a cheap restaurant.
The best lobster bisque I have ever had. The pasta the salads everything was excellent. The prawn cocktail so simple but so good. The prawns are crisp fresh and the presentation is beautiful.
Went here to celebrate a 70th birthday on Christmas eve. The restaurant was packed at 6:30, and while noisy, it wasn't enough to drown our conversation. Our waiter was quite attentive all evening, despite how busy he and the restaurant was. We loved the seasonal Christmas decorations and you felt like you were part of a large family party.
The food was excellent as well , with a lot of variety in the number and types of dishes which clearly leaned heavily towards Italian. I particularly liked the veal piccata and the Waldorf salad and the Carbonara special was outstanding!
We love to come here for special occasions. The cocktails are very well mixed, there’s an excellent pianist on a grand piano playing jazz standards, the food is creative and high quality. Our favorite items are the beet and pink grapefruit with goat cheese salad, the hanger steak and whatever fresh fish special they have. The service ia also very high quality with enough staff so they have time to spend helping you choose your meal and wine to pair with it. In warm weather, the sidewalk patio is fun. Yes, it is not cheap but with all of the above you definitely get your money’s worth.
This is a wonderful restaurant that we can always count on for delicious food and excellent service.
We went for my husband's birthday - which I included in the reservation so the restaurant would know. When we arrived, the host was on the phone. He didn't look up once during his conversation while we stood waiting for about 2-3 minutes. When he was finished I told him our name and time of reservation. He nodded, got menus, took us to a table, put the menus on the table and returned to the host station. Not quite the warm welcome I was expecting. It took about 3-4 minutes for someone to approach our table and ask for dring orders. After that the service was fine, basically the basics. The food was quite good. When we did not want to order dessert, the waiter promptly brought us the check. No happy birthday, no thank you for coming. So would I go back? I don't know. We don't go out often, so when we do it needs to be great for us to return.
This is our favorite place for a "girls night out" Massimo's never disappoints! Food is consistently good, the atmosphere is really nice and the bar scene is fun too. Some nights there is music and in the warm weather the sidewalk patio dining is perfect.
4 of us had full dinners. 3 were excellent as always. I had veal scallopini and was disappointed. Every recipe I've ever seen called for tenderizing the veal down to a 1/8 inch thickness. My pieces were almost a 1/2 inch thick, mushy and had an odd flavor. Definitely not up to your usual standards but we shall return.
