Massimo is classically designed to create a warm and lively setting. Massimo’s spacious dining room and glass-enclosed private dining room—including a full bar & lounge—make it the perfect place for occasions of all scopes and sizes, whether it’s a quiet night out with friends and family, or a boisterous celebration with dozens of guests.
Massimo has unique Italian wines from small boutique Italian winemakers (available nowhere else!) and a cellar selection from Italy, Spain and California. Our approach to wine is accessibility, quality and variety to encourage unfettered enjoyment.
We were celebrating my daughter’s 20th birthday. Service and food were great. Wonderful evening.
I've never had Italian food like this. Delicious variations in flavor and texture. Muscles were superb. Veal scalopini was tender and savory. The egg plant topanade was new to me and yummy.
Incredible! Had the mimosa bar with my husband and a friend; split a salad for a starter, had the Pasta Carbonara (will be dreaming about it for months and months!), affogoto and cappucino afterward. GO THERE.
Huge portions! Service was very attentive and courteous. The food was beautifully presented but was nothing special.
Our overall experience was great. I was not aware of the $3.50 per person cake cutting fee. If I had known I would have just ordered dessert off the menu.
Great food and wonderful service!
We love Massimo's, always an interesting menu with food that you do not find everywhere or if it is a mainstay it is done expertly and always with the chef's twist. Excellent wine list, service impeccable, and ambiance lovely. It can be a little on the noisy side when the sliding doors are open (summer time) and the traffic on Atwells is busy. However the lovely Italian music and ambiance makes you feel like you are at a cafe in Italy. You will spend a little but overall a good value for the dining experience.
Ordered pasta Bolognase and it was good, just not as good as my Italian restaurant back home. And much more pricey. Enjoyed the Italian bread immensely, sauce was good. Service was stellar!
All in all good, just not a winner.
Unprofessional service. Food would rush out and clutter the table. Always needed to ask for new fork and knife. Lack of knowledge about the wine.
We were celebrating an anniversary and the folks remembered to say Happy Anniversary. It was a Monday night. The table chosen for us was very nice. The food was amazing. Arthur was so sweet. Those that were waiting on us along with Arthur just need a little more training. We were not having wine yet the glasses remained. The dirty bread dishes which we used to share appetizers and salad stayed after our main meal was served. We ordered 2 drinks after the fact and they were forgotten. ( We didn't really need them anyway!) Trust me it didn't spoil our evening at all. And yes I would recommend that someone try the food there!
The appetizers were visually appealing. We had the burrata which had figs, prosciutto and 2 breadsticks. Burrata was delicious but the figs added nothing to the plate. We had the porchetta with polenta which was good. The meatball was absolutely tasteless. For entree’s 2 of us had the red snapper special. It was the thinnest, boniest piece of snapper I’ve ever had. We were with out of town family so we didn’t want to make a fuss and send it back. Really, really bad. One of us had the short rib gnocchi and he said it was good but I didn’t taste it. The best dish of the night were the scallops. Beautiful presentation but a little undercooked for my preference. We skipped dessert because we went elsewhere for that. We will not return.
The food was too fancy for my taste. I am sure this would not be the case with a lot of people but when I go into the Italian section of a city to get Italian food I am more interested in Chicken Saltimboca or a more traditional dish with a red sauce. So for upscale dining this restaurant is perfect but I would choose a different restaurant in the Federal Hill area of Providence next time. Just my taste.
First time visit. Seated in upstairs dinning room dinner for two. We were served by Benedetto who did an outstanding job with service, answer questions and checked on us but not overbearing. Drinks were good but not great, Italian Margarita and Expresso Martini. The bread and dipping sauce were an outstanding combo, salad was also excellent. Main courses of chicken parm and pollo ala limone with both very good. Serving sizes were very good. Overall a very good experience at a great price, highly recommend.
Enjoyed our food immensely. Had a drink at the bar because table wasn’t ready so they bought us a couple of appetizers on the house.
Had a great meal. The short rib gnocchi was fantastic and a decent size for a lunch portion. Even the bread when we sat down stood out. I'll definitely be back someday.
The food was overpriced for what you get. I was not impressed by the quality of the dishes. If you are going to charge that much for a plate, it should really deliver! It wasn't terrible. That's the best I can say about it. The server was excellent. The outside seating was noisy. I didn't realize it was going to be on a noisy street. Chintzy chairs to boot.
Every dish was so salty to the point where it was inedible. Service was extremely slow - maybe due to our waiter lacking experience but it took 40 minutes to just give us bread. Extremely disappointing as this place is rated so highly. Suffice to say I will not be coming back.
Wonderful afternoon on the hill. Restaurant and service was excellent right Dow to the Valets.
Good food, excellent service. Very noisy, difficult for conversation.
We enjoyed an excellent dinner on Saturday night! The from drinks, to appetizers, and our pipping hot delicious entrees we truly had a fantastic time. Our server, Arthur was extremely knowledgeable and made great recommendations! Wonderful service!
Good food, great service. A little pricey but that’s quite understandable considering the location.
Ok. So I doubt that anyone in any position of authority at Mossino will ever see this. I don’t do reviews. But.. just in case you’re really asking... a.) your pasta sauce is way too salty. I’m not against salt, but the truth is that the copious addition of salt is generally done to hide a lack of basic flavor in the food itself. I was sucking down water all day to dilute your salty sauce; b.) waitress was far more interested in hanging out with some guy waiters than she was in waiting on our table. Bottom line: at this point Massimo is a “lower third” restaurant. They would need to to do much more from food to service to ever get me to drive thirty-one minutes ever again
Excellent scallops and salmon entrees. Squash appetizer was in incredible. Truly good value for the quality of the dining experience and food.
Food very well prepared and tasty but the kitchen was very very slow
Nice to have parking right across the street.
We enjoyed our meal thoroughly. The food was delicious and the staff couldn’t have been more pleasant. All in all a wonderful dining experience.
The food was delicious. Initially I wanted to sit "outside", but when I got there I realized it was on the sidewalk and I prefer not to smell passing cars. The staff kindly put us inside. The music was a bit loud, but we could still talk. My only disappointment is that the "happy hour" drinks and bites were only if you sat at the bar. I'm not sure that was clear on the website. I would go back for the delicious food.
Thank you for making my daughter's 26th birthday very special! Loved the food, our server Virginia and the ambiance!
The wait staff and chef went out of their way to accommodate my group in an effort to meet our satisfaction and selection. The food was prepared exactly to our liking with a mix of new eclectic choices in appetizers to old favorites in Northern Italian preparation for a middle course fusilli in red sauce pasta dish and main courses chosen.
It was our sincere pleasure to host you! Thank you, Richard. We look forward to seeing you again.
We all enjoyed our meal. I had not realized only brunch was served on Sundays but everyone was able to find something yummy.
Food was outstanding, great service. We will definitely be back.
I would recommend this restaurant.
Went for my cousins birthday and they had a cute sign and confetti on the table. It was super sweet.
Amazing dinner as usual. Had the surf and turf for first time and it was fabulous.
The weather was beautiful and we had the open air feel at our table.
Service was excellent. We always come here when we are in town. See you in October!
Dinner was delicious and our service was excellent. I highly recommend Massimo!
So I went there for an anniversary dinner. We saw the reviews and thought this place is going to be great. However the service was cold which is not what you expect from an Italian restaurant. The food was good not great we've had much better Italian dinner the other restaurants. Both plates for overcooked however the sauce was delicious. That being said the ambiance was great and we much appreciated the complimentary valet parking. I would not go out of my way for this restaurant. Underwhelmed is probably the perfect words to describe it.
Good evening, I'm disappointed to hear the service you received was less than stellar. It is very important to us to make our guests like family and clearly we dropped the ball. I'm interested in learning more about the details of your experience. I'm reaching out privately to discuss. Dave GM
We chose to sit outside
First time eating at Massimo-food was delicious, and our waitress was even better! She gave great descriptions of a few dishes we had questions about and her timing with visits to the table was spot on.
Will definitely revisit
Worth a visit if you’re visiting Federal Hill. Service was fantastic, the food was quite good, and the space was eclectic yet inviting.
Consistently outstanding at every level - from parking valet to bartender(s) to waitstaff and service level.
Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, ready to explain regular menu items and daily specials.
The food is delicious. Options for vegetarians, seafood aficionados and meat lovers; daily specials. Open for lunch and dinner daily, plus a fabulous Sunday brunch.
From 3-6 pm weekdays, the bar has ‘Happy Hour’ with a nice assortment of $5 bar bites. A great chance to try their roasted cauliflower or porchetta con polenta (or a number of other items).
Beautiful space on second level, which can be reserved for special functions. Small outside seating area.
A real delight. Was named Best Restaurant in R.I. last year and has won more awards in 2019. Be sure to reserve in advance, as it’s a most popular spot on Federal Hill!
The food here is so delicious if your into crappie service this is the place to go this was are second time we decided to try again because the food is amazing but service is awful it’s hard to enjoy and the token limoncellos we got both times does not make up for the deplorable service we will never go back there are so many choices in Providence Massimo isn’t the one
Great service and delicious food.
Brunch was delightful. They managed out party of 11 with no issues. The meals was delicious, the service was courteous and prompt, and the drinks were just right. I can’t wait to go again!
