   March 22, 1942 We thought we would try Masssimo, for my birthday dinner. We had read good reviews about them, but after dining there, we were extremely disappointed. In fact, we question the authenticity of their cooking, with a name like Massimo, we expected decent Italian food. I wonder if the chef in charge even tasted authentic Italian cuisine in Italy. I ordered the Carpaccio.” Carpaccio* di Manzo | $17 Thinly Sliced Raw Beef Tenderloin, Capers, Arugula, Parmigiano, Horseradish Aioli” This dish was originated by Giuseppe Cipriani, founder of Harry’s bar in Venice, and is famous worldwide. But Mine came smothered with arugula and slivers of tasteless cheese, certainly not parmigiannio reggiano; I had to probe carefully to find any beef. What little there was resembled little shavings of tasteless beef. No attention was paid to presenting the dish in an attractive manner. It was not worth the price. We both ordered the “Rucola| $15 Wild Baby Arugula, Prosciutto di Parma, Pickled Red Onions, Shaved Grana Padano, Lemon Vinaigrette” This was a disaster, what arrived was a slice of prosciutto atop greens. The greens were Soaked in lemon juice or maybe vinegar??? It was inedible! We sent it back. My wife ordered the “Pollo al Limone | $27 Statler Chicken Breast, Baby Artichokes, Broccoli Rabe, Cherry Tomatoes, Fontina Potato Cake, Lemon & White Wine” This dish at least tasted freshly prepared, the chicken properly cooked, although the broccoli rabe was very mushy, the potato cake tasteless. The final disaster of the evening: My spaghetti carbonara.” Spaghettoni alla Carbonara* | $25
Guanciale, Raw Farm Eggs, Pecorino Romano, Crushed Black Pepper” This dish arrived luke-warm, with an egg yolk on top of the pasta. If the dish came in time and prepared piping hot, my yolk would cook when mixed with the pasts. This was not the case. the dish had more large slivers of guanciale than pasta. The pasta was not al-dente, and tasted heavy and salty.

   The interior is very dated. It feels like a place you would bring your mom for Mother's Day in 1983. That said, the staff were friendly and more than capable and we have a great dinner. The value is on the lower side, as menu prices are in the Boston price range and the overall ambiance left a lot to be desired. Also, for a nice Italian place in this day and age, I expect fresh pasta. Massimo’s only has fresh gnocchi and no fresh pasta.

   Outstanding is an understatement! We brought our daughter here for her 21st bday on 3/17. I first made reservations on Open Table for a party of 6 at 5:30pm a couple of days prior to the 17th. However, the morning of the 17th, I realized that we wouldn't be able to make it at 5:30 and nervously called Massimos and asked if I could push back the reservations to 6:30. They said they could accommodate us-no problem. Let me tell you, the pictures do not do this establishment justice! It was open floor plan upstairs, but seemed so close quaint and comfortable. The servers were so attentative and polite. Each person in our party ordered something different and each person absolutely DEVOURED their meal. DELICIOUS! (insert chef's kiss). To finish off our perfect meals was chocolate lava cake with a side of gelatto! DELICIOUS! We cannot wait to return!!

    We had their Monday night prix fixe dinner. Everything was quite good. Chicken piccata was very tender, and we all had cannnolis for dessert that were delicious. Our service was good. I have visited Massimo several times and the only negative is the decor. I’m not sure what they are aiming for but the effect is sort of shabby and worn. Looks pretty blah. Nothing a good decorator couldn’t fix.

    Amazing! We started at the bar, which was completely full, but the bartenders made sure to acknowledge us and grabbed us drinks right away! Once at our table, the service from start to finish was just as wonderful as the food. Camille (I believe was our server’s name) was an absolute joy and made sure we were taken care of as well as given space to enjoy our night. The manager CJ visited our table to see how we were enjoying everything- another wonderful presence and you could tell he genuinely cared about experience as well as making a connection with the guests! Highly recommend the antipasto board (cheese and char board), the grilled octopus, the scallops, and the short rib gnocchi! Honestly a 10/10 experience!

    Absolutely delicious. Had the gluten free calamari (soooo good), my husband had the shrimp scampi, and I had the salmon dish. Both out of this world delicious. It was his daughters birthday, they had a cute little sign on the table wishing her a happy birthday. Also when they brought out her dessert had it written on the plate it was super sweet and thoughtful! We will definitely be back! ALSO drinks... FANTASTIC!!!!

    My wife and I were in town and received recommendation to visit and it did not disappoint. From the cocktails to the food and staff was great. Enough GF options to satisfy. Definitely visit again. Great job!

    This was my first experience dining at Massimo’s, although my family had previously dined there. The food and service was excellent! Nate was very attentive and accommodating, as was his co-worker, who filled our water and took our takeout order. I will definitely return with my husband, so he can have enjoy the experience as well! The price for the lunch special was reasonable for sure!

    Dinner for four: two were tasteless. Calamari was tasteless (how can an Italian restaurant fail in this?) Chicken parm was tasteless. Sauces were excellent, if you don't care what's underneath. And tiramisu was awesome. Too bad, though, I go out to eat an entrée, not sauce and dessert. $200 night for disappointing dinners. Staff was pleasant enough.

    We had a nice meal at Massimo on our way to Boston. The service was awesome. The meal was delicious. Everything on the menu seemed so good. I highly recommend this nice Italian restaurant. I would like to go again to try new tastes with my family.

    Came here without high expectations, just a nice meal on date night before a musical at PPAC. Was pleasantly surprised! The food (I had the duck confit, my wife had the branzino) was absolutely amazing. The server expertly paired wine with each. The atmosphere was more family style than romantic, but this place is a Federal Hill gem.

    Nate was an excellent server who was very conscientious about potential food allergies (of which our party has several). This enabled us to really relax and enjoy the delicious food. When I couldn’t decide between two entrees, he suggested a half-portion of each, which was the perfect solution. We will be back!

    Tables for 2 guests upstairs are right on top of one another. If i wanted family style dining i would have went to a family style dining restaurant.food was average. Don't waste your money on mixed dtinks that have barely any alcohol in them for $15 each

    Early for reservation so over to a classily appointed bar for a superb Old Fashioned fashioned by a very slick bartender. Grilled octopus was tender and matched well with Gigante beans. Cesar salad with prosciutto and parm reg devoured. Cream sauce is rich and moreish. Tomato sauce is bright and fresh. Lemon sorbet for the finale. Will try to eat hear on most visits back to Providence.
