With a beautiful recessed patio, the all-day restaurant and bar conveys the atmosphere of those lively French eateries;
a buoyant neighborhood hub by day (offering coffee drinks, croissants, and egg dishes in the morning, pita sandwiches and classic bistro items such as steak-frites for lunch) to a festive ambiance at night around dishes such as homemade pasta, gambas au pastis, eight-hour braised lamb, and Moroccan tajine.
The unique crafted cocktail program is based around spirits from the South of France and Italy, with a dedicated Negroni menu, as well as an extensive selection of Amari and French brandies.
Massilia is open every day at 7:00am.
Enjoyed a delicious dinner in a beautiful restaurant. Shout out to Lauren who took great care of us.
Was excited to try Massilia but it must have been an off night. Our cocktails were overly sweet, all the food came out lukewarm, and the service was subpar.
beautiful space to grab drinks in the outdoor area. had a bdaydinner here, somewhat inconsistent food taste and prep. ordered two of the same thing, they had different garnish and different ingredients.
Great selection of international dishes. Beautiful setting. Nice vibe.
Great food! Diego the manager was especially great!
While I thought the food and ambiance were great, the service was completely disorganized and chaotic. We had huge gaps in time where no one came by our table to check on our food or drinks or see if we wanted to order more food. The service is very haphazard and somewhat unprofessional and might just be the undoing of this restaurant.
Jean-Michel is the best!
We really enjoyed this restaurant. Our server was very friendly and efficient. The food was excellent. The presentation was lovely and the different flavors were amazing. We will definitely go back. They also have a beautiful patio and bar.
Early arrival, sat at the bar. Delicious tapas: socca chips, exotic hummus. Marinated olives (the black ones a bit over salted). Not entirely pleased with the NegRoni, but then my son-in-law makes such great ones that I should probably not have ordered that. My companion had meat couscous and adored it. I had the lamb shank and it was fall off the bone tender, moist, not over salted. You might consider a different bed other than mashed potatoes, maybe even couscous. Lovely, courteous service, not pushy.
The food is solid. The restaurant design fantastic. However, the service was horrible. We were a table of seven and were left unattended by our waiter for the entire meal. We had to chase down the check. Hoping to give it another try though and feedback about the service will be helpful.
Excellent small place. Great vibes and menu options!
Couscous is phenomenal
We loved our first visit to this very unique and interesting place. They have done a great job of remodeling the space from when it was Border Grill. The patio is great and the inside tables are very comfortable. The menu is a refreshing mix of dishes from the South of France and Morocco. Everything can be shared as the plates are plentiful. The ahi tuna salad with grapefruit was wonderful. The clams with merqeuzes sausage was fabulous as was the King Prawns. The apple tarte ta tan was excellent. We are going back soon to try many new dishes.
This place is incredible - situated in the old Border Grill space on 4th, I've walked past this place for about a year. Finally went in and had breakfast (they're open from 7 am thru dinner), and it was amazing. Great ambiance - whoever designed the space did a really thoughtful job of creating a unique, fresh environment. Superb food and great service. A LONG overdue addition to Santa Monica's options, and one that feels like it's geared towards locals rather than pandering to tourists.
John Michelle our server was wonderful.
Food excellent, great service. The waiter brought out samples of new items on the menu for us to try.
Service was a little slow, but the place is lovely and the baked eggs are delicious!
An amazing meal in a lovely restaurant! I picked Massilia as one of two new places to try out during DineLA in July 2019 by looking at reviews and DineLA menus (on the westside). The menu offered by Massilia stood out from the rest and looked to be exceptionally good value ($39!!). The meal was even better than we hoped and we had high expectations. Although the patio looked inviting, we chose to sit indoors and we were seated at a quiet corner table. The service standard is very high and yet very welcoming and friendly. The person in charge, Jean-Michel, was attentive and very gracious. He helped us to select a wine that enhanced the meal but was also reasonably priced.
We started out with two appetizers - 1) an ahi tuna, grapefruit and avocado salad and 2) clams with merguez sausage. We knew we had a winner with the first bites of these two dishes. Our main course was a Moroccan-inspired and truly delicious couscous royale (I had to bring some home so I would have room for dessert). We finished off the meal with a floating island (ile flottante), a dessert that I love but that I haven't seen on many menus in LA. Altogether a wonderful experience and we will be back.
Amazing concept- with bottomless aperol spritz :)
From the cocktail menu- negroni is a must to try..
Food is amazing and the atmosphere- just can’t get any better...
Beautifully crafted dishes, great service, reasonable prices, the space has different areas and is open in front so even though it was packed with customers it didn’t seem like a crowd. The Couscous Royale is amazing. Dishes can be shared.
Love the changes to the menu... pan con tomate and Jamon Serrano!! Wow!!
Great to have a local restaurant serving food from Marseille. The couscous royale was outstanding, plus it's nice to have a spot that knows how to make the wonderful drink known as a Mauresque!
A great place offering great middle east dishes as we as excellent house-made pasta dishes
waitress is cannot be found, we have to ask busboy to call waitress everytime we need to talk to our waitress. Food is slow to come out. Very noisy. won't go back .
The service was slow even for the drinks. The chicken tajine was not very flavorful. It was a cool place. The guest who ordered the couscous was happy and the portions were generous. The lamb shank was very tender.
Excellent service. The falafel pita was delicious.
Understaffed!!!! Poor servers can’t keep up.
The Tagliatelle with morels is the best! Incredible flavors, very generous with morels, and the fresh pasta was perfectly cooked.
We also shared the couscous royal which was the best we ever had.
Great cocktails, reasonable prices and fun ambiance.
Coming back for brunch as that patio is the perfect setting.
Thid time here! We had dinner with a group of 4 and everything was amazing, from the ambiance to the food and service. We have been for brunch and lunch as well, and every time the experience is memorable.
We started with cocktails and pan seared calamari and Baba Ganoush at the bar.
Then we shared some fresh pasta (the amatriciana was a favorite), the lamb shank and the couscous royal (wow!). Everything was delicious, and this gem is becoming our new regular spot in Santa Monica.
Great place to meet up with friends or have a wonderful dinner with your partner - great food.
Had brunch at Massilia and it was a perfect experience. We had the Avocado Toast with Prosciutto and the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict’s. Both were absolutely delicious! Will come back for dinner.
Terrible fathers day celebration.
We waited for our food for more than an hour. When it finally came, someone in our party did not get their salad for another 15 minutes.
The server was slammed and kept avoiding eye contact with us. I know its not her fault for the restaurant to be under staffed but ignoring us did not make the situation any better.
The eggs benedict were a joke... barely any salmon and the biscuits we miniscule.
To top it off there was no manager on duty.
I know every table around us was experiencing the same problem. You could see everyone was upset.
Looking at other reviews after our failed fathers day celebration I realized the tiny benedict breakfast and slow service is not uncommon.
Please do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. There are far too many great restaurants in LA for you to waste your time here.
Visited for brunch, food was good, ambience was dead and service was okay. Went there to celebrate my mom's birthday (party of 2) - put it was a celebration on the reservation notes. No one mentioned the birthday, nor did they even offer to drop off a desert menu.
Food was decent. Shrimp kale salad was a little dry but ambience is nice.
The food was good (though no bouillabaisse on the menu, which is strange for a restaurant billing itself as Marseillaise) but the service needs work. Two of our main courses came after I had taken only one bite of my salad, but the third member of our party had to wait another 10 minutes for his main course.
We arrived mid week for lunch. Not very crowded. Staff was very friendly. We had a delicious meat and couscous dish. Space is big with seating and several different rooms. First times there and I will definitely go back
Incredible food! We came with my girlfriend for Happy Hour and cocktails. They serve amazing $3 Tapas! Our favorites were the red peppers bruschetta, the calamari and the meatballs. Cocktails were creative and excellent.
We then had the famous tagliatelle pasta with Morels which was unbelievable and shared the best couscous Tagine we ever had.
Will be back tomorrow ;-)
What a gem! Best new restaurant in Santa Monica for sure. Beautiful decor, bar, and amazing food and cocktails. The Gambas with Pastis were out of this world.
It was very nice, the portions were a bit small so I recommend and appetizer. The staff was a little strange, but everything else was jice
Felt like a little French bistro. Good soft scrambled eggs. My son had the omelette with the Morrel mushrooms. So yummy. Good hot strong coffee.
