About Masala Art DC

'Too much is so good, you can't stop eating it. The tandoor-baked breads are not mere swabs for sauce but could be eaten, and enjoyed, on their own; the naan with cilantro and rock salt is terrific, as is the kulcha richly stuffed with minced lamb. Masala Art offers combinations you don't see often around here, but even its more familiar dishes can be revelations. Consider its samosas. They're flakier than a lot of the competition, and their filling of peas, potatoes and sweet raisins tastes fresher, too. A burst of cardamom in every bite helps. In the same vein, soft logs of minced lamb pulse with heat from jalapeno peppers, a shock offset with breezy mint. Pureed spinach is a vibrant green, flecked with corn and rich with garlic...' - WashingtonPost.com

We three had a terrific dinner beginning with Bhelpuri & ChickenTikka appetizers and moving on to wonderful lamb and eggplant entrees. Great table service as always!

We have visited Masala Art over the years and have always enjoyed the food. The service in the beginning was nothing to write home about - but has improved over time and is very good now. Our favorite place for Indian food - far better than more expensive (and overrated) places.

Best Indian food in Washington DC area. Any other Indian restaurant we've tried since coming here doesn't hold up to Masala Art.

Masala Art is our go-to joint for after a concert at Cathedral Choral Society. Indian cusine could make me into a vegetarian.

We were so disappointed that there is not a weekend buffet as there is during the week! Would you consider adding one...?

I was very disappointed in this restaurant. I went because I read a glowing review in the Washington Post on the Ooen Table web site.

The service was very attentive and the servers nice. The tandoori chicken was awful. So was the Naan - tough as leather. A spinach with corn dish that I ordered was actually quite good.

The dining room was dark and freezing cold. Overall, the experience was tremendously disappointing and the value for the dollar way overpriced.

The food at Masala Art is spectacular -- right up there with the city's best Indian -- and you can enjoy it here any night of the week, without a lot of advance planning and without breaking the bank. We tried the tasting menus this time, both vegetarian and non-veg, and were blown away by how good it was, and how much food it was. We love this place and will keep on coming back!

Unfortunately the chicken was not cooked all the way so it spoiled the meal. We sent it back and got the same chicken back, cooked, but the mood was spoiled and we were charged full price for the meal

This was our 8th or 9th visit over the years. It has been our go-to place for Indian food. This visit was disappointing. The cauliflower appetizer was overwhelmed by a strange mustardy taste. Our favorite dish - Murgh Markhani - had a less savory sauce and drier chicken than we've had in the past. The Dal Markhani was as delicious as always.

Service was very good. Food was good, but not great compared to other Indian I have had. The potato cake appetizer was awesome. Nice atmosphere. I would recommend and go again.

We went to Masala Art for my husband's birthday. The food was really beautifully prepared, aromatic, and delicious. The service was outstanding. The ambience is very soothing without being boring. It was my third time at the restaurant, and I love trying new dishes there.

A friend had recommended Masala Art. Masala Art exceeded our expectations. The food was inventive and well beyond the norm of typical Indian restaurant food. Examples included eggplant with cashew sauce, Aloo Tikki Chaat (panfried potato cakes on a bed of chickpeas, sweet yogurt and sauces), and Coorgi Murg (chicken cooked with curry leaves, crushed black pepper in a rich coconut sauce). The service was excellent. We will return and highly recommend.

Masala Art is a hidden gem in NW DC. It's not sexy from the outside but the Indian food is truly some of the best in the area.

We got to the restaurant 1 hour before closing time but were told that they would seat us and that the restaurant closed at 3 p.m. We ate, even got dessert and then talked, forgetting the time.
The maitre'd was so kind and at 3:30 p.m. kindly reminded us that they had been closed since 3 p.m. The food was great, the service superb and the kindliness of the staff amazing. We will definitely go there again and again.

I was very pleased with the wide range of menu choices. The food was delicious, absolutely one of the best Indian restaurants in DC. This was my first visit, but I will be definitely returning! I have recommended it to other friends already and can't wait to take a few of my Indian aficionado friends and family members. Great samosas, tender lamb, great vegetarian choices (lovely okra), etc. Good service. Accessible via metro, and I had no trouble parking on the street. Try it!

This was an impromptu family get-together, and each of the six of us has very different tastes. Everyone was very happy with their choices, and there was a lot of sharing of what was on each others' plates. Rarely for us, we even had desert, and it was also excellent. The service was quick when we wanted it, but not officious, the staff were very friendly, and all of us recommend it wholeheartedly. We'll be back.

We took an out of town friend here for lunch that was staying downtown. It was easy to find street parking for lunch. They offer a buffet, which I usually do not do, but this had a nice variety.
Locals were dining, including three priests! Overall it was really a good experience. Staff was polite, nice, welcoming. Only negative is the bathrooms, they are a little weird.

Fun to meet a friend from out of town who loves Indian food. He gave it two thumbs up and we know why... The food is consistently good, seasoning is amazing and the service is lovely. The Saag paneer is always a huge hit, along with the chicken biryani, black lentils and lamb curry - all delicious!
