'Too much is so good, you can't stop eating it. The tandoor-baked breads are not mere swabs for sauce but could be eaten, and enjoyed, on their own; the naan with cilantro and rock salt is terrific, as is the kulcha richly stuffed with minced lamb. Masala Art offers combinations you don't see often around here, but even its more familiar dishes can be revelations. Consider its samosas. They're flakier than a lot of the competition, and their filling of peas, potatoes and sweet raisins tastes fresher, too. A burst of cardamom in every bite helps. In the same vein, soft logs of minced lamb pulse with heat from jalapeno peppers, a shock offset with breezy mint. Pureed spinach is a vibrant green, flecked with corn and rich with garlic...' - WashingtonPost.com

The restaurant is notable for a good location and good buffet pricing. The food was average, a bit salty perhaps, and unimaginative. That makes this a good bargain meal, but not a gourmet find.

An absolutely excellent meal. Our very friendly waiter was well informed, and offered us great and honest evaluations from their great menu. I'd been there within the last month for lunch, and had friends in from PA for dinner Sunday night.

Every appetizer, entree and dessert was delicious. It was one of those meals that, as a diner, you didn't want it to end.

Food was very good - when it finally arrived. We had to wait about 15-20 minutes just for someone to take our order. And while the appetitizers came quickly our main course took about 30-40 minutes to arrive with no visit from the wait staff. The beer I ordered did not come until I specifically asked for it when the main course finally arrived. Not sure if there were issues with the kitchen or with the serving staff, but we had very poor service this visit. In past visits to Masala Art, our service has been excellent.

We had terrible service, unfortunately. The food was very good, and we had a nice table.

We met friends for dinner last Friday (2/2) Masala Art is a perennial favorite of ours but our friends had never been. They loved the food, as does everyone we bring to the restaurant. Servers are very knowledgeable and great with recommendations. Masala Art is, hands down, our favorite Indian Restaurant in the DC area!

Some of the most authentic Indian cuisine in the area with lovely rotating specials that tells you the chef is not stuck in a mold. Loved the Korma and Masala, two favorite sauces and the fried spinach appetizer had a tangy dressing with chopped onion, etc. The tandoori salmon was perfectly cooked fish but lackluster. I love the lamp light making a perfectly cozy ambiance and had no trouble hearing our friends (such an uncommon bonus in restaurant dining). Decided I must dine her more often!

Creative menu. Modern indian. Waiters seems little discombobulated and uncoordinated delivering the right plates to the right tables promptly. Forgot our Nan.

We loved the new crispy spinach appetizer and hope that it will become a permanent menu option. Among its other many fine qualities, Marsala Art's extra dry Grey Goose martini is still the best in the area.

This is just darn good food. When they say spicy, they mean it. My family has been going here for years, and we don't plan to stop anytime soon.

An unfortunate experience...decent food but really unacceptable service. We waited nearly 40 minutes before being asked if we wanted cocktails...and another 20 before they were delivered. Dinner was served in a reasonable time and was a mixed bag: chicken was excellent, lamb way overcooked and dry. And then they brought the bill without even asking if we'd like coffee or dessert (we did). The place was busy but not overly so...hence there really was no excuse for the poor service, or the fact that we had to ask twice for a waiter so we could order drinks and twice again when we needed something else.

Always reliable and always excellent.
I hope the how empty the restaurant was for a late Saturday lunch is atypical. I would hate to lose this neighborhood option.

This was my first weeknight visit to Masala Art, having been there many times before on Saturday nights. I appreciated the quiet, more relaxing atmosphere during the week. The food is always excellent and on this visit, I had the opportunity to try some new appetizers that I will be adding to my standard order the next time I go there.

We have visited Masala Art over the years and have always enjoyed the food. The service in the beginning was nothing to write home about - but has improved over time and is very good now. Our favorite place for Indian food - far better than more expensive (and overrated) places.

Best Indian food in Washington DC area. Any other Indian restaurant we've tried since coming here doesn't hold up to Masala Art.
