Our group of 6 enjoyed a great authentic Indian meal before a show. Our group enjoyed a variety of dishes including vegan options. Extensive menu covering a range of tastes and drink options including imported Indian Beer. Fun night, reservations recommended.
Food and service were great. Excellent table.
Although this restaurant can get loud at lunch, it was quiet and pleasant at our early Sunday evening dinner. The service was attentive but not hovering, and the food was excellent.
Appetizers: Sarson wali Gobi was tasty but small portion and Angoori Chicken Tikka was disappointing.
Tandoori Chicken: Disappointing taste. Big pieces were not cooked through.
Bhareli Wangi: Okay but not great.
Meen Moilee: Very tasty gravy but the fish pieces were not so great.
Lamb Neelgiri Korma: Tasty dish.
Masala Art serves many interesting Indian entree choices, as well as your favorites that you walked in hoping to find. The service is just right, attentive but not obsequious. The cocktail menu is interesting, they have appropriate wine choices. Highly recommended.
Lunch buffet is very nice but ordering off the menu is really the way to go! Always fresh, tasty, just enough spice.
My boyfriend and I usually come here for the excellent buffet. When my friend said she wanted good Indian food I made a reservation here and it did not disappoint. We got the spicy chickpeas, spinach and corn, eggplant and salmon with garlic naan. Everything we ordered was excellent. Would definitely recommend. Great service, awesome ambiance, noise level was perfect!
The restaurant is notable for a good location and good buffet pricing. The food was average, a bit salty perhaps, and unimaginative. That makes this a good bargain meal, but not a gourmet find.
An absolutely excellent meal. Our very friendly waiter was well informed, and offered us great and honest evaluations from their great menu. I'd been there within the last month for lunch, and had friends in from PA for dinner Sunday night.
Every appetizer, entree and dessert was delicious. It was one of those meals that, as a diner, you didn't want it to end.
Food was very good - when it finally arrived. We had to wait about 15-20 minutes just for someone to take our order. And while the appetitizers came quickly our main course took about 30-40 minutes to arrive with no visit from the wait staff. The beer I ordered did not come until I specifically asked for it when the main course finally arrived. Not sure if there were issues with the kitchen or with the serving staff, but we had very poor service this visit. In past visits to Masala Art, our service has been excellent.
We had terrible service, unfortunately. The food was very good, and we had a nice table.
We met friends for dinner last Friday (2/2) Masala Art is a perennial favorite of ours but our friends had never been. They loved the food, as does everyone we bring to the restaurant. Servers are very knowledgeable and great with recommendations. Masala Art is, hands down, our favorite Indian Restaurant in the DC area!
Excellent food (tasting menu was great!) as well as service. Good price. Will come back!
Some of the most authentic Indian cuisine in the area with lovely rotating specials that tells you the chef is not stuck in a mold. Loved the Korma and Masala, two favorite sauces and the fried spinach appetizer had a tangy dressing with chopped onion, etc. The tandoori salmon was perfectly cooked fish but lackluster. I love the lamp light making a perfectly cozy ambiance and had no trouble hearing our friends (such an uncommon bonus in restaurant dining). Decided I must dine her more often!
Creative menu. Modern indian. Waiters seems little discombobulated and uncoordinated delivering the right plates to the right tables promptly. Forgot our Nan.
We loved the new crispy spinach appetizer and hope that it will become a permanent menu option. Among its other many fine qualities, Marsala Art's extra dry Grey Goose martini is still the best in the area.
This is just darn good food. When they say spicy, they mean it. My family has been going here for years, and we don't plan to stop anytime soon.
An unfortunate experience...decent food but really unacceptable service. We waited nearly 40 minutes before being asked if we wanted cocktails...and another 20 before they were delivered. Dinner was served in a reasonable time and was a mixed bag: chicken was excellent, lamb way overcooked and dry. And then they brought the bill without even asking if we'd like coffee or dessert (we did). The place was busy but not overly so...hence there really was no excuse for the poor service, or the fact that we had to ask twice for a waiter so we could order drinks and twice again when we needed something else.
Always reliable and always excellent.
I hope the how empty the restaurant was for a late Saturday lunch is atypical. I would hate to lose this neighborhood option.
This was my first weeknight visit to Masala Art, having been there many times before on Saturday nights. I appreciated the quiet, more relaxing atmosphere during the week. The food is always excellent and on this visit, I had the opportunity to try some new appetizers that I will be adding to my standard order the next time I go there.
Wonderful food and wonderful servers. What more could one want.
Masala Art is a neighborhood favorite that's worth a trip across town for. It's simply yummy and the service is always amazing.
Another lovely meal at Masala Art. It is our favorite neighborhood restaurant, with easy access to the metro.
We three had a terrific dinner beginning with Bhelpuri & ChickenTikka appetizers and moving on to wonderful lamb and eggplant entrees. Great table service as always!
We have visited Masala Art over the years and have always enjoyed the food. The service in the beginning was nothing to write home about - but has improved over time and is very good now. Our favorite place for Indian food - far better than more expensive (and overrated) places.
Always a good experience - tasty meal in modest setting, served with care.
Best Indian food in Washington DC area. Any other Indian restaurant we've tried since coming here doesn't hold up to Masala Art.
Masala Art is our go-to joint for after a concert at Cathedral Choral Society. Indian cusine could make me into a vegetarian.
We were so disappointed that there is not a weekend buffet as there is during the week! Would you consider adding one...?
I was very disappointed in this restaurant. I went because I read a glowing review in the Washington Post on the Ooen Table web site.
The service was very attentive and the servers nice. The tandoori chicken was awful. So was the Naan - tough as leather. A spinach with corn dish that I ordered was actually quite good.
The dining room was dark and freezing cold. Overall, the experience was tremendously disappointing and the value for the dollar way overpriced.
The food at Masala Art is spectacular -- right up there with the city's best Indian -- and you can enjoy it here any night of the week, without a lot of advance planning and without breaking the bank. We tried the tasting menus this time, both vegetarian and non-veg, and were blown away by how good it was, and how much food it was. We love this place and will keep on coming back!
We always have excellent food at reasonable price with good service. We love to eat here.
Standards seem to be slipping. Food wasnt as tasty as usual. The Chicken65 was especially bad (too salty).
Unfortunately the chicken was not cooked all the way so it spoiled the meal. We sent it back and got the same chicken back, cooked, but the mood was spoiled and we were charged full price for the meal
This was our 8th or 9th visit over the years. It has been our go-to place for Indian food. This visit was disappointing. The cauliflower appetizer was overwhelmed by a strange mustardy taste. Our favorite dish - Murgh Markhani - had a less savory sauce and drier chicken than we've had in the past. The Dal Markhani was as delicious as always.
The service is very attentive. The dishes are delicious.
Service was very good. Food was good, but not great compared to other Indian I have had. The potato cake appetizer was awesome. Nice atmosphere. I would recommend and go again.
The food was really good, some of the best Indian food I've eaten in America!
