Masa - Boston Ratings and Reviews
Positive: The host and waiter were attentive without being overbearing. As issues arose, they apologized and sought to rectify the problem. And in the end, my meal and Cava were comped.
Negative: I was served a glass of Cava that was at least 2 days old. I notified the host who opened a fresh bottle without hesitation.
I ordered the crab cakes as a starter. Great flavors and the food was lukewarm at best. I finished without further fanfare and hoped the tuna would be a better experience.
Entre was the seared tuna. After a bite, several things were immediately clear. First, my hopes for a decent meal were dashed. Next, the restaurant has a problem with quality. Third, the tuna wasn't fresh. Finally, I wondered if the kitchen had intentionally served me poor quality food because I'd returned the Cava.
I asked the waiter how they prepare tuna while stating that mine wasn't even lukewarm. He explained how tuna is seared. I eat tuna fairly often and prepare it at home so know exactly how it should taste and the temperature to expect. This was not a fresh piece of tuna and it hadn't been freshly prepared.
The waiter offered to prepare a new plate. I was wary of the risk (we've all heard stories of what goes on in kitchens when someone believes they have a difficult customer). My mistake was trying to finish the meal (I was clearly hungry and not following my instincts).
And that meal wrecked havoc on my stomach as soon as I returned to my hotel.
Yes, the manager comped my meal which was kind. I will add that my colleagues meal was served hot and he was satisfied.
In summary, this is the first time Open Table has disappointed. This is not a place I would never return or recommend. The reviews are quite positive so perhaps this horrible meal was limited to me which raises other questions...
Everything was great, the guy who greeted us and took us to our table, the food was phenomenal, and our waiter Antonio. He was very hospitable, professional, and very nice. He made us feel comfortable and remembered about my birthday instructions for my boyfriend through the opentable app. Everything was perfect!
The fish tacos off the bar menu were delicious. Very lightly flash fried, but no batter; which was great. The tapas menu has some excellent items and the prices are quite reasonable for the high quality of food in this tony neighborhood of Boston. The entree dishes are larger portions and equally tasty.
I tend to like the high-top tables at the bar as it's a little more laid back. If you're looking for a more formal dining setting, they have tables offering some additional privacy. I definitely will be going back soon. It's a great spot for a twist on Spanish/Mexican cuisine.
And the tequila selection is second to none in the city.
I picked this place for a sunday brunch birthday celebration. They were one of the few places that let me use opentable to make a reservation for 8 people and on the day had no problem upping the reservation to 10 people as I had a couple of extra people join. They also had no issue with bringing a home made cake for me that one of the guest brought as a surprise. Had such a great birthday and the Bloody Mary's were excellent!
Food was great, but I made an 8pm reservation and we were not seated until after 8:40!!!! and the hostess was rude. The only reason we ended up sitting eventually is because one of the waiters noiticed us waiting for a long time and gave us a table by the bar. What's the point of making a reservation if I have to wait over 40 min for my table. I could have gone to a different restaurant on tremont street and waited less for a table without a Reservation.
I enjoyed this place. Everytime I m here the server was attentive and was knowledgeable about their food and recommendations.
Love the corn bread. It was delicious
I tried the sampler for tapas and also had few side dish. It was good and the atmosphere was relaxing. Most of all, when the service is good, the experience is more enjoyable .
Very nice restaurant. They even lent me a cellphone charger which was very kind. They accept the Open Table gift cards so that is a huge plus. I will definitely be back, food was superb and I really liked the atmosphere - very European. I can't think why I haven't been before..I'm a new fan.
We had a great dinner at Masa. Great atmosphere, wait staff was very attentive and informative. It's not loud but definitively festive- fun place to go with a group. We had two appetizers, a salad, and four very unique entrees that we passed around because they were so good!
The food was great and the drinks were really good and creative. It was VERY loud (but it was Cinco de Mayo) but the most negative thing was the service. Servers were polite but everything took forever from just being able to place the drink order to getting them and even at the end: literally timed it as 15 minutes from giving the credit card to getting it back. If big crowds anticipated, please hire servers accordingly.
Went for Sunday brunch. Reservations were plus because we got sat quickly. The food was good for the price (two course brunch for $9.95 if you are there before 11am) and the ambiance was great. However, the service was just ok. Our waitress was not very attentive, and did not really check on us to refill drinks or get extra drinks we ordered. Any refills we needed on water or coffee were only after we asked when we did finally see her again. It probably took about 15 minutes for her to bring our check after she said she would, and other 10 minutes or so for her to run the card and bring it back, which is a shame because there was a long line of people waiting to get sat and we were very ready to leave. Overall for the price it was good place to go, but I would probably go elsewhere for brunch unless someone really wanted to go here.
Excellent Easter Brunch! Friendly and patient service for our entire family. The food was terrific and the menu options, descriptions exact. Loved the variety of flavors and spices. I had the Santa Fe Eggs Benedict, my millenials had the steak and eggs and grandparents enjoyed the Easter special and Salmon Quesadilla ! Portions were exactly what we wanted and we treated ourselves to the plantains and fresh fruit to begin Brunch. And...we even had desserts and cocktails ! What a lovely experience all the way around. Thank You!
Food was ok at best. Nachos were fantastic. We had the mussels and they were underwhelming. Steak tacos -- the steak was very tough. The duck -- flavor ok but the meat was very chewy. The drinks were good. Service was very good to start but then we sat for 30 minutes waiting for someone to come by with a check
I can't pinpoint one particular quality that led to a 2 star review. The staff was very pleasant and tried hard. The food was decent. But there were a few mistakes that made the experience subpar. We had to wait an additional 25 minutes to sit (past our reservation time) One of our drink orders took awhile to get to us. The server apologized, but blamed the business of the night on the delay. The mashed potatoes were subpar. One of the beers wasn't "chilled" enough.
However, they tried to rectify the situations, including taking some of the items off the list. However, the food was not good enough to warrant a recommendation.
Delicious meal. For appetizer we had the Prince Edward Island Mussels
with Chile Coconut Broth in a Garlicky Chipotle Crostini and Chorizo. This was superb with very interesting combination of flavors. I had the Braised Pork Shoulder which fell off the bone and had a wonderful flavor. The fig jam served with it was a bit too sweet and did not go well with it. My husband had the Tuna tartare and it was exquisite. Our daughter had the catch of the day, monkfish, with purple potato gnocchi and again it was superb. Our waiter was a bitt off because he did not tell us what the catch of the day was nor tell us of the specials available. One of which was mahi mahi. I definitely would have gotten that instead of the pork. The tres chili margarita was not very flavorful but the watermelon one was amazing. I would definitely go back here again and try some different items.
