our reservation was late but hanging at the bar was easy with great service and they got us seated quickly in bar area which was actually less noisy. The food was good. My only complaint was fish for tacos was heavily breaded and deep friend and this was not good way to go. When restaurants do this it means they are doing a short cut. They should use fresh fish and let it shine by using pan or cooktop so it tastes like fish rather than something heavily battered and deep fried.
But I always overall enjoy my Masa experience.
The service in bar area was excellent.
Wife and I had booked a weekend getaway in Boston and Masa appealed to satisfy our Spain-oriented palates. It was a Sunday evening and the restaurant was very quiet and sparsely populated which was a shame since the place looked like it could have a cool vibe when busier. We opted for the braised pork shoulder and hanger steak main courses. Plenty on the plates and certainly more than a tapa style serving if that's what you planned. Steak was spicy, pork was good just could have been served hotter (manager graciously handled that). Very pleasant surprise was the Castilla y Leon Tempranillo, Entre Suelos, very attractively priced.
Been here a couple of times. They completely forgot about us after seating us. They apologized profusely but we were without water for 20 minutes.
Rancheros is the best, never had better than Mass. The burrito was Ok. It lacked any flavor...was very bland.
Service is always great and staff are very pleasant.
Parking is a struggle most Sundays.
Food was so slow in coming that they ended up giving us our entrees for free. Server would forget drinks orders and we were often without silverware.
We were a party of 7 and had a round table where we were accessible to one another, and were able to talk. We sampled many tapas, the Cheesy Polenta, Bacon Wrapped Dates, Plantains with Mexican Crema, and the Papas Bravas were particular hits. The salmon entree was delicious - cooked to perfection. Limited changes available - nearly everything had pepper or peppers in it and couldn't be changed. Drinks were interesting, the Habanero Watermelon was a hit, as well as the Jalisco White Negroni (Seasonal), many tequilas offered. Wait staff was attentive and friendly. Bathrooms were clean, and the decor was visually appealing.
Excellent service, tasty, delicious food, excellent value in small plates; accommodating to specific dietary needs. Great atmosphere.
The whole fish is divine. It seems the bar is often buzzing, but the dining room on weeknights is quiet enough that you can actually converse with your tablemates, a plus. Hip but homey atmosphere.
delicious and creative food, we need to come back in order to try more!
Great brunch options, especially the super affordable Fiesta Brunch. We opted to get a few things to share, so we didn't do the Fiesta Brunch, but we got the Breakfast Burrito, Santa Fe Eggs Benedict, and Fish Tacos. The Breakfast Burrito had super creamy scrambled eggs, and the fish tacos were super crispy with a nice balance of freshness with the veggies on top. The Santa Fe Eggs Benedict didn't seem like quite enough, you can pay extra to add meat, but otherwise it's just avocado and egg on two halves of a biscuit. I think the addition of chorizo or bacon would have helped, and the hollandaise sauce was a little too sour in my opinion. But otherwise, we had a pretty good experience. Would love to go back to try the Fiesta Brunch or their other options.
i like the menu, food and decor but i was upset because the waitress asked if i wanted more tea. i thought it was on the house but anyway she didn't take my cup of cold tea away and brought another teabag and hot water. She left before i could say anything so i had to mix the hot water with the leftover cold tea and milk. Then i was charged an extra $4.00. Most places tell you when a refill costs something and they definitely bring you a new cup. If i'd known she was going to charge again i would have skipped it or said just bring me hot water and i will reuse the tea bag.
As usual, excellent food and environment
Amazing interesting food. Different and delightful. Quiet enough to hear conversation and full enough to feel surrounded by other people. Totally charming and delicious.
Short notice brunch with friends. It was busy so service was understandably slower. Food was good menu options were all appealing.
Food was good but service was lacking...but the manager made up for it by making it a free meal!
Fun casual date night spot/great place to meet up with friends. Food was great and we were in and out relatively quickly. Our only service issue was handled perfectly and the entire staff could not have been more professional/polite.
I think nothing is cooked to order here.....it was eatable but very over priced, same prices as casa romero-
It was very quiet for Sunday evening. The food was great as was the service.
great ambience and service though nothing spectacular about the flavors—bland and lacking authentic Mexican flavor and menu items
Our reservation was for 7:30- we were trying to make a 9:30 show. When we arrived we were told our table wasn’t ready and it would be another 20 minutes, we were finally seated at 8. When were finally seated, the waiter didn’t come over to our table for a while. We finally ordered our drinks and appetizers and waited some more. Finally our appetizers came out but our drinks didn’t. We had to ask the runner to remind our waiter but we were still midway through our appetizers when our drinks finally came. I know restaurants get busy on weekend nights and ultimately these things can’t be avoided BUT the thing that makes all the difference is the staff and their interaction with the customers. Yes it was annoying that it took over a half hour to get our drinks but if the waiter had come over and let us know that the bar was running behind. Yes it was annoying that our table wasn’t ready but an apology from the hostess would have been nice.
Excellent food, a bit pricey, very slow for brunch
We live in Cleveland and always make sure we go to Masa. It is always awesome. Great food and coffee. Always a favorite when we are in Boston.
We had a terrible experience at Masa and our party of six decided to take our business elsewhere for the evening. We arrived right on time for our Friday night reservation and they kept us waiting 15 minutes past our reservation time for a table, with no apology or explanation. They encouraged us to get a drink from the bar, and we wanted to share some pitchers, but the bartenders would only serve individual drinks until we were seated at a table. This all would have been ok until we actually sat down and attempted to order drinks. One person in our party is from Puerto Rico and has a Puerto Rican drivers license, and they refused to serve him alcohol while they were completely fine with everyone else in our party having out of state IDs. They continued to insist that it was just the law and it was out of their hands, but clearly had little understanding of the law and refused service to an American citizen while everyone else in our party would have been served no questions asked. For white Americans serving Latin food to deny service to a fellow American based on a misunderstanding of state law and serving everyone else in the restaurant who didn’t have a Mass ID (of which there were certainly many) is deeply ironic and absolutely unacceptable. Learn the law or lose your liquor license, and the undercover inspector seated next to us agreed the ID was valid and encouraged us to leave. We will not be returning to try the food or drink, however excellent it may be.
Not your usual Mexican. Popular neighbourhood restaurant
We happened upon Masa by chance and discovered a neighborhood gem. Mexican-style cuisine that is flavorful and inventive, good cocktails, good ambiance, and great service. Will definitely return.
The vibe and food at Masa is always amazing. Our server, Georgy, took it to another level by exuding such positivity. My friends and I enjoyed our food and time at brunch.
The food looked good but arrived cold. The quesadilla that was part of the huevos rancheros included 2 stiff stale flour tortillas and appeared to have been prepared in advance and had nit seen a griddle anytime close to serving.
We got a variety of food to sample, the pork shoulder was very good, the pork tacos were a bit dry though, they needed a sauce or something more for toppings. The sampler plate was a neat way to try some well crafted appetizers. The old fashioned cocktail was very good, but in general I felt that the drinks/beer selection was limited. Our server was very patient for a larger group and attentive
We were so excited to try this restaurant based on the high rating. We saw a couple of questionable reviews, but wanted to give Masa the Benefit of the doubt. Sadly, we should have listened to those who cautioned us. I don't think I've had worse guacamole in my life....how do you screw up guac? Had to send the first drink back. the 3 Chile Margaritas weren't half bad, and would recommend them out of the lot. At $11/drink, that's a very fair price. We asked them to muddle cucumber or any type of fruit and they could not. How can you have a full bar without essential ingredients for those who like an elevated cocktail? The Mussels however were missing out of half of the mussels served (ie most of the shells were empty! Very good otherwise, but don't eat bacon, so had to pick around. The eggplant was fresh and very good. the fish tacos were puny to say the least. The staff were kind and did everything to accommodate us and try to make the experience better. If Masa would address their food and drink issues, they could really knock it out of the park.
This place is a true gem! We snuck in for brunch on a rainy Saturday, staff was more than accommodating for a res change despite being super busy. Food was awesome, neat twist on traditional Benny’s and fresh cornbread with molasses butter and habanero jam was to die for!! Prices are great too. The only possible thing I could complain about was that we had to snag someone to ask for a coffee refill but that was I’m sure because our server was so busy. She was excellent. Overall an absolute MUST on a Boston stay!
Small portions. Expensive. Not that flavorful.
Food looks good though! Nice place for a date but it’s not that great of a restaurant.
Perhaps because they had some large parties, it was too loud to catch up with friends.
I have had the pleasure of eating out at least once a week in Boston for a very long time. This was the most disappointing meal I have had in this city in the last 10 years. The margaritas were diluted with some awful syrup, the steak was over cooked, the pork belly was undercooked, the chorizo (in this case, longaniza with ketchup) was not edible.
We had a small meal, but we loved the combo appetizer (why doesn't everyone do this?), the carnitas tacos were meaty and tender and the fried queso was tasty and rich.
We used to live in Boston, and came back for a visit. Masa remains our favorite for brunch. It’s so tasty and lovely.
Easy place to go as a group for good Mexican food and a huge tequila/mezcel menu.
Cheesy Polenta was made from frozen food. The guacamole was not good.
Excellent food and service. Our server was extremely accommodating and knowledgeable about the dishes.
We were looking for a different t breakfast place in town. Food was great the Eggs Benedict were spicy and delicious. The drink menu is extensive, we had bloody Mary’s and they were just ok but other drinks on the menu looked really good. I would definitely recommend and you’ll definitely need reservations.
LOVED our experience with Antonio - can’t wait to go back
