Not the greatest ambience or food - service was so so as well
The menu has recently changed under a new chef, the host told us. Perhaps that's why the food was not up to our memory of previous visits. The enchiladas were merely the equal of most Mexican restaurants. The skirt steak was delicious but chewy. At this price point, we'd expect better -- and in the past Masa has offered beautifully elevated Mexican fare.
The host was chatty, visiting our table several times to duplicate the efforts of the servers. Seemed unnecessary.
Timing out of the kitchen was odd -- perhaps the new chef is still working out the kinks? All of our appetizers, small plates, and entrees except one arrived within seconds of each other ... and then one of our party waited 10 minutes for his entree.
Masa has always been a special place for us. I hope they get back to where they once were.
Amazing food and good service! Solid spot for brunch in the South End. Highly recommend the Breakfast Burrito.
Food was cold not very busy early Sunday at 10 had not been thr in awhile and not rushing back total for 2 people for breakfast $50 just crazy for a breakfast that was cold
Food was a real disappointment. Scallop dinner was the size of a tapas small plate. Chicken in one dish was dry, tough and chewy. We wondered if we just ordered all the wrong things? Space was pleasant and packed with happy looking diners which was confusing to us because our food was So not good. Waitress was lovely. We will not go back.
TOO LOUD And food took over half an hour to arrive
Great for party of 10, reasonably priced for dinner and delicious food! Accommodating to food sensitivities/allergies including gluten and dairy.
This is a great place for a group, although we just went before the theater and it was just the two of us. We ordered the beet salad, mushroom tacos and fish tacos to share. It was plenty of food for the two of us. The beet salad and mushroom tacos were excellent. The fish tacos were very blank and we were disappointed with those. Service was great, every one that helped us were friendly and efficient. It is a bit noisy as it gets more crowded. My husband got a basic margarita, which was alright, but nothing special. Maybe the special drinks would be better. We would definitely go back.
Food was mediocre and overpriced for quality, wait staff was pushy and trying to upsell us. Decent food and good atmosphere, but there are many other places in Boston to get what this restaurant claims to offer at a better value.
I went there for a pre-vday celebration and it was amazing. Great food, drinks and service. I will return soon. Thanks for your hospitality!
Would have been 5 star but they have reduced the number of offering in the brunch fiesta and the orange juice is a rip off for the size vs cost.
At 6 on a Saturday it was pretty quiet but bustling by 7:30. Food was terrific and service was supreme. Georgie is great. He steered me away from one menu item and onto something better. Plus we got a free sample of the ceviche of the day (striped bass) which was absolutely delicious. If I lived in town I would return often!
Steve and Liz provided top quality service and conversation
We went to Masa for a date night. I was underwhelmed. The food was good, not great. We got gauc and chips (the chips were the best thing we ordered), the gauc was really disappointing in the size and it had no flavor, at all. The pork spring rolls were the second best thing we ordered and the fish tacos were ok as well. There was a large piece of fish, but it was heavily fried, almost over fried. Skip the bacon wrapped, they aren't worth it. The drinks were good. Would go back for a drink and chips, but would not go for dinner.
First visit...an apres theater dinner. Great atmosphere, excellent table service and a varied menu with good selections. A little noisy for close conversation, but a very friendly atmosphere and very tasty food. Loved the fish tacos and chicken enchiladas.
Some dishes were very good (mixed mushroom tapas, veggie taco) and others were ok, not so exciting (fish tacos). Service was very good, quick but not too quick, pleasant efficient staff. We were happy with that because we were going to a show and didn't have a lot of extra time. Reasonably priced and comfortable setting.
Great spot to hit after seeing a show at Calderwood. Waitstaff is always friendly. Food has never been anything but outstanding.
Always a fun atmosphere and great food! The stuffed dates wrapped in bacon are amazing! The staff is attentive and available without hovering. Always a great choice!
Masa was a great find for a bite to eat with coworkers on a conference. We enjoyed sharing plates and the drink menu was outstanding.
Excellent as always! Would recommend for groups. Try to get a seat near the front.
I've been hearing rave reviews of Masa since moving to Boston, so I was excited to try the famous $10 brunch. I had the plantain empanada and the breakfast tacos. The empanada + butter was amazing - I wish I'd ordered more of them! The tacos were so-so, but for $10 it was hard to expect anything more.
Steve was great as always and so was the beautiful Amanda! The only thing was chorizo was added to our first set of nachos which we didn’t ask for and no guacamole for the second until asked. But still a great place and I will be back soon!
Best tequila selection in Boston. Great food. Attentive service. Super fun place for a date.
Ok, not that I would go back.we sat next to the bar and we just felt rushed by our sever the moment we sat down. It was our first time so we really wanted to take our time looking at the menu but he came over to take our orders like 5 minutes after he had handed us the menus!
We ordeeed an item we did not like and the waiter took it off the bill and replaced it with something else which was much appreciated.
Met a friend for holiday brunch - and everything was just right Right price right food (including portion) and attentive, friendly service!
Great service, quick delivery.. Nachos, burger and street corn, were great, im sure other options the same...will try other menu items, on our next VISIT, great experience..and cost was well in line.
Delicious, different and reasonably priced. I'll be back.
I went to Masa for brunch. The food was delicious and I appreciated that they had a lot of vegetarian options. The service was great and the pricing was reasonable.
We went early. 6:00 pm. Lovely waiter.
Food took over an hour to arrive, longer than tables around us of the same size. “Manager” brought out a snack to hold us over, but made excuses and never truly apologized. Only comped the food when we asked (and still charged us for the drinks). Server was polite and apologetic, but the “manager” has a lot to learn about the meaning of customer service. There are plenty of better alternatives in the South End. This is my first (and last) time there.
Was mostly ignored by the server / bartender during dinner on a weeknight. The game on TV was more important apparently. The food was tasty and the drinks were admittedly good value. You may have a better experience with a different server.
Steve and Amanda made this first time at Masa 5X better; tonight was such a great night and we will both be back 🙌🏾!!
Understaffed and food was just okay. Our waiter, Georgy, was lovely and was trying hard but he was the only server on - honestly he was the best part about our dining experience there. Drinks took forever and were average, and food was terribly mediocre.
The decor was fun and I liked that you could taste a little bit of everything from the appetizers section. Good sangria, a must, and the service was really friendly- we ended up with free salsa and guac. Hidden secret on the menu is the side of mac and cheese. Only complaint was the baja fish taco was a little too greasy.
Good Mexican food type
our reservation was late but hanging at the bar was easy with great service and they got us seated quickly in bar area which was actually less noisy. The food was good. My only complaint was fish for tacos was heavily breaded and deep friend and this was not good way to go. When restaurants do this it means they are doing a short cut. They should use fresh fish and let it shine by using pan or cooktop so it tastes like fish rather than something heavily battered and deep fried.
But I always overall enjoy my Masa experience.
The service in bar area was excellent.
Fantastic tapas and bar service! The chorizo, chiccarones, and plantains are all must-repeaters. The tuna entree was a big disappointment- previously frozen, stiff, bland tuna w nothing distinctive. That said, the apps and service more than made up for that.
Wife and I had booked a weekend getaway in Boston and Masa appealed to satisfy our Spain-oriented palates. It was a Sunday evening and the restaurant was very quiet and sparsely populated which was a shame since the place looked like it could have a cool vibe when busier. We opted for the braised pork shoulder and hanger steak main courses. Plenty on the plates and certainly more than a tapa style serving if that's what you planned. Steak was spicy, pork was good just could have been served hotter (manager graciously handled that). Very pleasant surprise was the Castilla y Leon Tempranillo, Entre Suelos, very attractively priced.
Been here a couple of times. They completely forgot about us after seating us. They apologized profusely but we were without water for 20 minutes.
Rancheros is the best, never had better than Mass. The burrito was Ok. It lacked any flavor...was very bland.
Service is always great and staff are very pleasant.
Parking is a struggle most Sundays.
