We had the best time. The couple we brought had never been to Highland Avenue before. They absolutely loved it.

Food & service were very good. Will go back.

The changes that have been made to the menu are wonderful!! A few more small plates or appetizers would be welcomed!! The only downfall on our last visit was the cocktails! They were not good. We ordered a Rusty Gear, a Whiskey Sour and a Gin Gimlet. The Rusty Gear and Whiskey Sour were not the same as we had before at Highland, and the Gimlet was so sour, I couldn't drink it without Sweet 'n Low!!l This problem was the same at Cafe Rule, but has been fixed. Highland needs to initiate the same fix. Otherwise, everything was fantastic!!!

The new wanton nachos are incredible!!! Also try the new pork wings. Looking forward to all of the new changes.

I love the ambiance and service at this restaurant, but I never thing the food is worth the cost. The presentation is always beautiful, but I am always disappointed by the flavor and some of the ingredient choices.

Our service was slow. When our meals came they were cold and had to be sent back. One quest ordered duck and it was not cooked through. This is the second time that we have gone to Highland Avenue and both times were disappointing.

It’s an inviting presence but the food is inconsistent. Meats were undercooked. It’s an eclectic and interesting menu in a great setting but execution needs to be improved to be the type of restaurant it aspires to. We will come back to see if it can achieve greatness

Food was very overpriced and underwhelming. $43 for a chicken entree with slow service and small portion sizes..

The staff were attentive and knowledgeable. The food was good but not great. My filet was a bit under cooked. I do think many of the dishes were creative, but some of the ingredients were a bit out there for my tastes.

Always enjoy sitting at our favorite table. Ashley is the best - she makes our experience awesome every time.

We went on Valentine’s Day as first timers. Everything, and I mean everything was beyond our expectations. It was pricey, but honestly not that much more than some of the top tier chain restaurants. We will definitely be back!

Valentines dinner. Highland has really done an amazing turn around under the new owners and management.

We went for Valentine’s Day meal and I was really disappointed with the food, especially for the price. The lemongrass chicken dish was not good, the flavors were bland and didn’t go together and the chicken was overcooked and dry. The appetizer cheese and meat plate was only ok. All of the meats were way too salty as well as the crackers. So salty that we drank several glasses of water. My boyfriend got the salmon dish, and it was ok but not great. We spent $175 on a subpar meal so it was very disappointing. I really hoped to have made this a special evening but we both agreed we probably would have enjoyed something else better and would not go their in the future.

Highland is one of our go to places to eat. This past Friday, was an exception, though. I don't know if it was because of Queens Feast or the large parties that they had, but the entire staff seemed overwhelmed. Two of our three drinks arrived in a timely manner, but the third did not arrive until the appetizers came. The drinks were really good, as well as the appetizers. We had not finished our appetizers when our entrees arrived! Poor timing,for which our waitperson took credit. The braised chicken on the Queens Feast menu was just OK, nothing spectacular. Our other entree was a burger which arrived at the table RAW, and I mean raw!! By the time anyone checked to see how our dinner was, it was too late to send it back. The manager was nice enough to give us credit for it on our bill. The desserts, rice pudding, and green tea ice cream, were just okay. The rice pudding was served cold from an ice cream scoop! The Queens Feast menu was not very appealing! Highland usually does better than this!!

New Years Eve

Put into this menu but what a letdown

We were very pleased: the ambiance, the presentation and the taste/quality of our food was exceptional. We were so pleased to find a restaurant of this high quality in Hickory.

Awesome food and service!

We have been to H Ave several times and it is always a wonderful experience.

Definitely not the best meal I’ve had at Highland. The new menu isn’t particularly interesting, and the wine prices have increased dramatically. I had an avocado and hominy salad that could have been served at Taco Bell, and the fish tacos were just ok. There doesn’t seem to be any artistry or innovation in the kitchen. It’s crying out for a head chef to lead with a vision. If this is what it’s going to be like under the new owners, I’ll take a hard pass.

Server was great, helpings were generous, wine was excellent, food was exceptionally fresh, much better than your average restaurant, pricey, the experience is worth it, need to dress at least business causal so you don’t look like a slob, please keep it classy, this is not Applebees

Our "go to" restaurant for a nice meal or special occasion.

This was our third time here and we love it!! Hope it doesn’t change too much with the new owners!! Innovative and fresh recipes. The duck was amazing as were our salads and the coconut cake!! So moist!

Food was A, server was A- (Only negative was being asked if we were thinking about desert while eating our salads). Manager was friendly. Restaurant was empty, only 1 other table had people eating and no one at bar. Interior is great and the warehouse feel is nice. Hope more people will patronize. Much better experience than our last trip there about 2 months ago and I think they have new ownership so potential is there. Will be back.

It's been awhile, but Highland Avenue is still very, very good. I see that some of the worst waiters have moved on, but competent wait staff seems to be a challenge in Hickory, NC. I had the pork, which was far too rare...and didn't have much flavor. Party of four: steak/fantastic, fish special/meh, fish tacos/great, handpie special/great, and chocolate tarte/great. I like this place, very stylish, nice vibe, not loud but lively. There just something not coming completely together with the food--very, very good as it is, it could be great. Nice drinks, but slow bar. I'm nit-picking...great place.

In town for a retreat and wanted to go to a nice place for dinner with some friends. What a great building! Really neat history being in an old mill. The food and service were fantastic! I decided to try something different for me and I had the duck which was amazing. My wife, who is pretty picky about her grits, has the shrimp and grits and said they were awesome! We’ll definitely be back even though we live two hours away.
