What a great meal in a special place! Thank you Mary's for a wonderful dinner! We will be back!
Great service, food and libations. Atmosphere is romantic and nostalgic. The fireplace was classic
The food was great, service was fabulous and the ambience is quintessential Vermont. One of my favourite restaurants.
Great evening at Mary's. Our server, Laura, was outstanding. She was friendly, attentive but not crowding, and went the extra mile. When we asked about whether some ingredients might affect a lactating mother, she sought the knowledge of the owner AND searched the internet for further information.
The food was delicious, the service impeccable and the atmosphere quintessential Vermont, making for a perfect evening out.
First time there, it was worth the one hour drive from our house. We will be going again, we will try a Wednesday Night which is burger night

We had been to Mary's a number of years ago and had an excellent meal. In hopes of repeating that experience, we took some friends who were visiting the area to Mary's. Unfortunately, the food was terribly disappointing. My husband's steak initially came out well done instead of medium rare, which our server immediately recognized and returned to the kitchen. The steak came back medium rare, but they had not refreshed the fries. My duck was overcooked and dry and the rice pilaf was tasteless. Our friends were not impressed with the swordfish or chicken. The only highlights were the garlic soup and Lulu's ice cream (even my favorite bananas foster, which used to be flambed at the table, was lackluster). Our server was excellent, as was the hostess - - they felt badly about the overcooked steak and tried to make it right with a complimentary glass of wine and prosecco toast. Unfortunately, their friendly and attentive service couldn't make up for the very disappointing food.
we always love going to mary's. great food, romantic setting and all around special place. well worth the drive!
This is our 3rd Valentines meal. Excellent as always. I was looking foreword to the duck but upon seeing it served on other tables it looked like it was dumped in a fryolater. We both opted for the beef tenderloin and it was perfect. The roasted potatoes were not browned enough and it looked like they might have been held and then microwaved.
As always, Mary's is a gem of a restaurant - delicious meals, great service, and warm, inviting atmosphere! We keep coming back!
We were accommodated on very short notice, had excellent service and delicious food! Another great night at Mary's!
We are long-time customer's of the restaurant and have never been disappointed. The food is always terrific and locally sourced. The fire in the fireplace makes the atmosphere wonderful for a February night in Vermont. Of course my wife of 33 years made the conversation, as always, fantastic. Cheers to everyone at Mary's.....another great dining experience and evening out.
The Mack family took great care of our special wedding gathering. Hospitable and fun inn keepers, Doug, Linda, Laura and their staff anticipated every need and made us feel welcome.
Good, locally grown food, well prepared in a cozy country environment with outstanding service.
Enjoyable, relaxing, good food, welcoming environment, and good service.
Exceptional previous dining experiences at Mary's drew me to share this beloved spot with out-of-state relatives on the last evening of their visit! Slight issue with entre was remedied IMMEDIATELY and cheerfully. Super friendly and knowledgeable wait-staff impressive and much appreciated. While Mary's is generally at the top of my budget, I continue to feel the choice worth every penny! Of course I'll return - as will my guests - hopefully MANY times.
Unfortunately, the idea behind Mary's (all local foods) is better than the actual eating experience. I would say the main complaint both my husband and I had was that the chef seems to be heavy handed. If he'd lighten up with his sauces and spices and let the freshness of the food come through, it would have been a five-star experience.
Worth the drive for outstanding ‘farm to table’ dining.
Our family of eight had a post Christmas dinner at the Inn. We had adults and kids, carnivores and vegetarians, millennial and seniors. The menu is always varied and offers something for everybody. We particularly like the garlic soup and the roasted, pickled vegetable appetizer. Three of us had the burger special this time, but my daughter had the crab cakes and two had the vegi-burgers. There is a kids' menu as well.
Mary's is in a sprawling old home with a bar in the middle. There are party rooms and intimate spaces, all nicely appointed . The service is low key and friendly. We go there fairly often, particularly with friends.
Beautiful inside and out. Delicious food including vegetarian options. Good wine by the glass selection. Excellent, informed service.
Mary’s is a quintessential Vermont dining experience. Lots of locals, thoughtful menu, entertaining wait staff. We’ll be back!
We had a lovely meal at at table by the fireplace which we enjoyed. The staff are very friendly and also knowledgeable about the menu.
Mary's never never disappoints! Every single item we ordered was delicious and unique, and the service was as personal and enjoyable as always. We love Mary's!
Always have loved the chef's food, especially the ice cream selections.
Cheers!
We had Thanksgiving dinner at Mary's and it was amazing. The turkey, the sage stuffing, the beets were perfect and the garlic mashed potatoes with turkey gravy were some of the best I've ever had. Service was polite and prompt.
This is the second time we have had Thanksgiving dinner here. It is outstanding in every way. Our waiter, Jay, was flawless. they have the best turkey ever.
Mary's is simply our favorite local place to stay and eat. Their Thanksgiving buffet is legendary--and for good reason. The variety and quality of the offerings can't be beat. Doug Mack has been 'farm to table' from long before it became a trend. He has sustained a high-quality operation for decades. Linda, who oversees the front of house, is warm and wonderful. Laura at the bar is a hoot and a half, and one of those craft-cocktail folks, in the best way.
Meanwhile, Doug makes the best omelette on earth (this is a bit of an in joke for us).
Meanwhile, the rooms are gracious and spacious. It's our splurge to stay here a few times a year, as it's a wonderful family who run a wonderful family place. GO.
Fabulous service. We had Sunday brunch...WOW! Crab cakes were more crab & less breading, boar meatballs were out of this world, the other two meals, well I can't spell them but we were delighted. We had an 11 month old and his meal was brought out in advance of ours...that was a first and it was a saving grace. Happy baby, happy guests...kudos to our lovely server. My cocktail was remarkable. Wish I could remember the name of it...but our server was also the bartender and she gave me exact ingredients. Perfect birthday for this lady. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Mary's is a great place to eat. They are creative with their food and drinks. They also make sure that they please the customer. Very friendly staff. Their Garlic Soup is out of this world. Yum!
Celebrating our 30th anniversary. Have been here before and knew it was the perfect place for such an occasion.
Outstanding ambience, location, waiter and cocktail special was delightful.
My favorite Vermont restaurant. You feel at home the minute Linda greets you, the food is exceptional, the service fantastic and knowledgeable and you can’t wait to return.
Best Vermont Inn & restaurant bar none
Doug & Linda are fantastic hosts and cooks
Couldn’t ask for better
been here several times (10-15) throughout last 11 years. This past time was not up to par. Slow service, perhaps understaffed. 25 min to get a beer after placing the order; empty water glass for 20 min. Food was fairly good, maybe slightly less so then in the past. Bypassed dessert.
We have visited Mary's several times and three things about the restaurant stand out: the setting is peaceful and lovely, the service is efficient and friendly, and the food quite good. Our recent visit for brunch was on a very busy morning with lots of college parents and scions dining. Nonetheless, our food was delivered promptly and our server did not seem stressed. There did seem to be some confusion in the kitchen (we were told they were out of selection and then told they had it) but not a big deal. The restaurant's ambiance also was not as sedate as usual, a bit noisy, the large dining area was reserved for a bus load of "leaf peepers" and other guests shunted to a smaller room.
The food was generally up to its usual standards: as described and tasty. My order of garlic soup was not as warm as it should have been and seemed to have a different consistency than normal, but still very good. Our entrees (breakfast burrito and farm-hand scramble) were good (we finished all of each) but seemed to lack the usual presentation flair that Chef Doug provides.
All in all, our brunch was pleasant, it was a beautiful fall day, and my dining partner was lovely. We will definitely go back -- just perhaps not on parent's weekend!
Perfect meal
The service was awful. Waited over am hour for dinner. The food arrived cold and was average at best. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.
Absolute fantastic service, wonderful food and the New England ambiance is spot on. A very special place for a special event or to entertain special friends.
Delicious! The pork loin absolutely delicious. The service was great! Perfect place for friends to catch up, the tables were not close together and it was quiet and relaxing, good place for conversation. The drinks were a fun touch, we would especially recommend the "He Who Should Not Be Named." We will definitely come back when we're next in Vermont!
Menu nicely diverse and includes better than average vegetarian options. Could use more fish choices and some simpler preparations, e.g., grilled meat or fish with lightly adorned vegetables. Lovely spaces and friendly service.
outstanding! Fresh food, skillfully seasoned, seasonal
