Mary's at Baldwin Creek
Wed–Sat 5:00 pm–8:30 pm
The food was fine but we felt it was overpriced . The room was so noisy I couldn't hear anyone in my dinner party. When I spend this kind of money for a meal I expect exceptional ambiance. I enjoy fine dining but would not return to Mary's.
An Absolutely delicious meal with both unique creative and traditional dishes. Lots of local food
options, great specialty mixed drinks. The staff was very friendly. Mary's was an overall great dining experience.
This is such a great spot, beautiful ambiance, welcoming, friendly, like home with a real chef in the kitchen.
Handcrafted cocktails are unique, and spot on.
Appetizers, plenty to choose from for all pallets.
Main dishes are full of old favorites, some classic, some with a spin. The chef has a great hand with beef, and proteins, nice flavorful sauces, and vegetables that a bright and have their own role on the plate.
The desert offerings are good, but not out of sight. Local Ice Cream is quiet a nice ending to the meal. My only gripe is my Bananas Foster was not flaming, but I didn’t get a pony for Christmas either.
The service and staff are very friendly and attentive.
Beautiful spot, solid food, what’s to like?
Food, drinks, service, location all perfection. Roughly 2-hour round trip - worth the drive, every time. One of very few restaurants I recommend, have run out of people to tell about this amazing place!
Shrimps' cargot was outstanding for those who don't love snails, but do love the garlic butter. Atmosphere is lovely in this out-of-the-mainstream restaurant. Steak Diane was perfectly cooked and sauce was delicious. Seared tuna was also tasty and served rare. Chocolate cake was good but not great. Service was attentive and helpful.
As always the service and food was first rate. However this was Burger and Beer night and the place was packed to it was noisier than usual.
Wonderful menu and food, warm and attentive service, all in a beautiful yet comfortable restaurant. Highly recommend.
Mary's at the Inn at Baldwin Creek is an amazing restaurant, located in an out of the way location on the outskirts of Bristol, Vermont. They have *amazing* garlic soup, but everything else on their menu is excellent as well. They source their food locally and their kitchen staff would do a New York restaurant proud.
We had a very nice dinner at Mary's. The food was excellent as is the atmosphere. The specialty drinks are small for the price, but well made and fun to try. Would definitely go back.
At least once a summer, my wife and I make a point of visiting Mary's. We always feel welcome there, no matter how long it's been between visits. The food is always fresh and innovative, and most of the produce is raised right on the premises (the "farm" to "table" trip is measured in yards). With Doug and Linda's inspiration from their frequent trips to Tuscany, the food is always fresh and innovative. Most recently, I had "blackened bluefish" from the Cape, which was outstanding, preceded by a cup of the amazing garlic soup. Deserts are always worthwhile (I'm a particular fan of the bananas foster), and a double espresso at the end of the meal seals the deal. It's also really fun to hang out at the bar and hear about the summer weekly film showings in the barn, while sampling the well-crafted cocktails. Mary's is quintessential Vermont -- not to be missed!
We've been enjoying our anniversaries at Mary's for ten years. It's always a treat to return and enjoy the amazing food - grown on site with locally sourced meats. We always leave satisfied. This visit was a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity and we were happy to be a part of it.
Until next year...
Mary's is always a delight. Beautiful setting, friendly service, great food!
Absolutely wonderful. Thank you Laura for a terrific experience!!
We were running late for brunch after our son's college graduation but the folks at Mary's were so accommodating and graciously allowed us to arrive at their closing time and provided us with great service and delicious food! We can't thank them enough for their hospitality.
Our waiter was terrific. Fun, informative and easy going too. Drink names were clever.
Food was very overpriced and portions not what expected, per what was described by waiter.
Two in our party ordered the post roast and the difference in portion size between the 2 plates was definitely noticeable, even to our waiter who said, "I'll let you fight over who gets which plate".
Waiter also suggested that the salad would be big enough for 2 to share since it was a big one, and when it arrived we were disappointed. Also, the salad was basic; greens with pickles on top, and a flavorless salad dressing. I asked for an additional side of dressing to try to add more flavor to the salad, but it was not effective. I even resorted to adding salt...not even that could make it interesting.
The Garlic Soup, which we have heard so much about, was another huge disappointment. It was a bowl of heavy cream with a bit of garlic!! Its good reputation is undeserved.
We chose not to have dessert after being nonplussed by other foods ordered.
The lawns and ambiance were lovely, but the food was not impressive. Also, our waiter was jusst6 o.k. His sense of humor was a little bit offensive.
Always a great meal and good service at Mary's! It's worth the drive to be in a pleasant environment with friends.
Repeat visits over the years prove that Mary's only gets better and better. Asparagus and ramps--the best ever!
The meal was perfectly delicious from start to finish. Our group was made up of people with different dietary restrictions and we were all able to order something off the menu. Everyone left with a happy stomach. A++
I loved the comfortable and relaxed settings.
The food was great.
We have dined at Mary's quite a number of times and have always been pleased with the food, service, atmosphere, etc. Our recent visit was a disappointing exception. I tried two mixed drink creations (neither of which I liked) but the most disappointing was the meal: stuffed chicken breast was dry, carrots were undercooked, brussel sprouts were burned. The menu advertised that this entree came with squash but it was served with mashed potatoes which I don't like. Why was I not told they had run out of squash two days ago before the meal was served? Finally, a new ice cream flavor (salted caramel), which the waitress said everyone was raving about, was just terrible!
We will no doubt return to Mary's again but will not be in a hurry to recommend it to others at this time.
What a great meal in a special place! Thank you Mary's for a wonderful dinner! We will be back!
Great service, food and libations. Atmosphere is romantic and nostalgic. The fireplace was classic
The food was great, service was fabulous and the ambience is quintessential Vermont. One of my favourite restaurants.
Great evening at Mary's. Our server, Laura, was outstanding. She was friendly, attentive but not crowding, and went the extra mile. When we asked about whether some ingredients might affect a lactating mother, she sought the knowledge of the owner AND searched the internet for further information.
The food was delicious, the service impeccable and the atmosphere quintessential Vermont, making for a perfect evening out.
First time there, it was worth the one hour drive from our house. We will be going again, we will try a Wednesday Night which is burger night
We had been to Mary's a number of years ago and had an excellent meal. In hopes of repeating that experience, we took some friends who were visiting the area to Mary's. Unfortunately, the food was terribly disappointing. My husband's steak initially came out well done instead of medium rare, which our server immediately recognized and returned to the kitchen. The steak came back medium rare, but they had not refreshed the fries. My duck was overcooked and dry and the rice pilaf was tasteless. Our friends were not impressed with the swordfish or chicken. The only highlights were the garlic soup and Lulu's ice cream (even my favorite bananas foster, which used to be flambed at the table, was lackluster). Our server was excellent, as was the hostess - - they felt badly about the overcooked steak and tried to make it right with a complimentary glass of wine and prosecco toast. Unfortunately, their friendly and attentive service couldn't make up for the very disappointing food.
we always love going to mary's. great food, romantic setting and all around special place. well worth the drive!
This is our 3rd Valentines meal. Excellent as always. I was looking foreword to the duck but upon seeing it served on other tables it looked like it was dumped in a fryolater. We both opted for the beef tenderloin and it was perfect. The roasted potatoes were not browned enough and it looked like they might have been held and then microwaved.
As always, Mary's is a gem of a restaurant - delicious meals, great service, and warm, inviting atmosphere! We keep coming back!
We are long-time customer's of the restaurant and have never been disappointed. The food is always terrific and locally sourced. The fire in the fireplace makes the atmosphere wonderful for a February night in Vermont. Of course my wife of 33 years made the conversation, as always, fantastic. Cheers to everyone at Mary's.....another great dining experience and evening out.
We were accommodated on very short notice, had excellent service and delicious food! Another great night at Mary's!
The Mack family took great care of our special wedding gathering. Hospitable and fun inn keepers, Doug, Linda, Laura and their staff anticipated every need and made us feel welcome.
Good, locally grown food, well prepared in a cozy country environment with outstanding service.
Enjoyable, relaxing, good food, welcoming environment, and good service.
Exceptional previous dining experiences at Mary's drew me to share this beloved spot with out-of-state relatives on the last evening of their visit! Slight issue with entre was remedied IMMEDIATELY and cheerfully. Super friendly and knowledgeable wait-staff impressive and much appreciated. While Mary's is generally at the top of my budget, I continue to feel the choice worth every penny! Of course I'll return - as will my guests - hopefully MANY times.
Unfortunately, the idea behind Mary's (all local foods) is better than the actual eating experience. I would say the main complaint both my husband and I had was that the chef seems to be heavy handed. If he'd lighten up with his sauces and spices and let the freshness of the food come through, it would have been a five-star experience.
Worth the drive for outstanding ‘farm to table’ dining.
Our family of eight had a post Christmas dinner at the Inn. We had adults and kids, carnivores and vegetarians, millennial and seniors. The menu is always varied and offers something for everybody. We particularly like the garlic soup and the roasted, pickled vegetable appetizer. Three of us had the burger special this time, but my daughter had the crab cakes and two had the vegi-burgers. There is a kids' menu as well.
Mary's is in a sprawling old home with a bar in the middle. There are party rooms and intimate spaces, all nicely appointed . The service is low key and friendly. We go there fairly often, particularly with friends.
