Marseille Ratings and Reviews
The food was excellent. We had the calamari. octopus, bouillabaisse, and duck. Finished with the Crème Brule - all great. We were able to have a great conversation without shouting to each other, so it was fun. The Staff was extremely professional with just the right amount of attention. Great place.
My wife and I enjoyed our pre-movie dinner. Although we arrived early (4:45) the restaurant was in full swing with a party of a dozen or more, including kids. Definitely family-friendly. By 5:30 it had filled up nicely. Our salads were splendid, fresh and tasty. The mains (canneloni; pappardelle) were delicious. Wait staff was pleasant, but too small for the crowd, I thought. It took a while to get the check. Ambience very "old Brooklyn" - scarred wood floors, exposed brick, tin-ceiling front to the bar. And CHECK OUT THE REST ROOM! We'll be back.
Marseille is, quite simply, my favorite restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen. Perfect for date night, a business lunch, or - as we were tonight - a get together with old friends. The food was sublime, the service outstanding, and the special touches were above and beyond. I’ve never had a meal that was less fabulous here. And the unhurried service is always superb.
Marseille is an excellent choice for a pre- or post-theatre dinner. The service is friendly, the food excellent, and wine choices are well above the norm. The decor is classic French with mirrors everywhere and interesting & romantic lighting. The bar looks especially inviting for a post-theatre drink.
Went 2X this New years weekend. both times very good. Dinner and brunch.
Service excellent. Dinner and brunch menu totally different. Have eggs and more typical NY breakfast items for brunch...and others.
Excellent onion soup for dinner. Good long dinner rolls and excellent unsweetened butter.
Nice wine list and drinks. Drank blood orange champagne mimosas for brunch.
Very nice moroccan egg dish in cast iron pan, with tomatoes and sauce for brunch.
Prices decent for the area in NYC. Very busy for pre-theater, (6-8) then at 8 pm nice and quiet ,calm... Well run. and good service.
Our first time to this restaurant during one of the busiest times of the year, the hostess and the manager were very present and took excellent care of us. The manager knew the wine and beer menus and could make proper recommendations. The wait staff was attentive and prompt. They handled our adult party of 2 as well as the family with young, rambunctous children sitting next to us, gracefully. Highly recommend.
The branzino on the current winter memo was fantastic - it was delicious with the mixture of tart from the capers and sweetness of the curry beurre blanc. The roasted cauliflower with it was also excellent. A real winner! We have had many of their entrees and have always been pleased.
We were seated right next to the bar, so the energy and noise level were very high, but not enough to be annoying. Service was attentive and quick enough (not rushed) for us to make the 7:30 performance. My husband ordered the hanger steak which was cooked exactly to order and was on a bed of delicious spinach. My daughter ordered the moules frites mariniere, which was delish. I ordered their burger, also cooked perfectly to order and was very flavorful with burgandy onions. I wasn’t a fan of their French fries. I prefer them crispier, but their flavor was good. Also tried their soup du jour, a white bean vegetable soup in vegetable broth. Very good.
I do think $21 for a plate with a burger and fries is a bit pricey, but it is theater district, so I guess they can get away with it. Otherwise, I will return when opportunity is there.
My wife had the Pork and Creme Brûlée - She loved both
I had the Breast of Duck (asked for medium rare came well done and dry)
Bread pudding - (very dry) sorry very disappointed
We would return because the wine & service were excellent. Ambience was superb and the
acoustics for conversation was perfect. Location couldn't be better.
We go to Marseille fairly frequently sometime without reservations, but Wednesday we had an open table reservation for five people at five o'clock. Since it was extremely cold we arrived a little early, with no one in the place the hostess refused to seat us at a table, she insisted we sit at the bar and wait. All of the table were clean and ready for the evening so I don't know why she would not seat us. We had a drink and waited we were not called to our table at 5:00 and after I asked again to be seated she put us near the kitchen door. Again no one in the place, we asked the waiter to move us and he did. I found it extremely annoying that when a restaurant is empty you give a returning client the worst seat in the house.
Otherwise the evening was enjoyable with good food and a terrific wait staff. The hostess needs some hospitality training.
Great spot. We come here several times each trip to New York. Service and food are always spot on. Johnny is excellent. Christian is a welcome face at the bar. Months can pass and all the staff recognize us and treat us great. It's simple - just go and enjoy a fantastic place with warm people.
