Marseille Ratings and Reviews
Marseilles is one of the nicest, reasonably-priced restaurants in the theater district--a great place to have lunch before a matinee. We were there for Saturday brunch, and there were many options, unless you are vegan, like one member of our party. There were plenty of vegetarian options, but most of them had eggs or cheese, limiting vegans to only three or four dishes. She was satisfied with her kale salad and hummus, though, and we were very happy with our egg-based choices. The atmosphere is charming and it's a shock to come out of the restaurant and find yourself on Ninth Avenue and 44th, rather than a Paris street corner. Eating at Marseilles really is a respite fro the craziness of NYC.
We've dined at Marseilles often. It is our go to pre-theatre restaurant. The food was as excellent as usual, even though the bouillabaisse was skimpy. The service this time was spotty and it seemed as though they just didn't have their game on. We had to go to the host's stand and ask for someone to take our order. Once that happened and apologies given for keeping us waiting, we waited a long time for our dinner. We had told our server, who disappeared after taking our order that we had theatre tickets. Apparently he did not share this with the other server who took over. The dessert menu looked great, but we had to pay our bill and run to make the curtain.
Watching the floor manager walk around and look above guests' heads was strange. He walked by our table quite a few times, but did not notice us sitting at an empty table.
We rarely go out in the theater district on weekends. Just too many people. Marseille is a terrific restaurant, but be prepared for quite a din. We dined at 6:00 before the theater on a Saturday, and the noise was almost too much. A shame because the food was delicious, and the service quite good. The bouillabaisse is the best!
After ordering drinks and our meal, our waiter never returned to our table. We had to flag down another waiter to order a second glass of wine (at $12 a glass). With no explanation, a different waiter delivered our pre-fixe dessert and the check. Really, this is considered adequate service by this restaurant?
I have been going to Marseille for several years. Not once have I been less than completely satisfied with my experience there. Everyone I've ever dined with at this wonderful restaurant has loved the experience and most return there with friends, dates and spouses. I recommend this restaurant very highly. In fact, it is my favorite place to dine in all of New York City.
Good place pre-theater in Hells Kitchen ! Met my sister there for brunch before going to a matinee at City Center - convenient and good. I prefer their regular menu to the brunch menu but it was fine. I do wish the portions did not have to be so enormous - I had the chicken paillard salad which was good but enough for 2 people - a normal portion at half the price would be so much better!! at least as an option-
the fava bean hummus was but too bland and hte pita bread served with it was awful...
but like the place so would go back and still recommend
