Marseille is a pre-theatre favorite of mine. The food is simple French Bistro, but well executed. The wine, beer, and cocktail lists are well thought out & reasonably priced. The wait staff knows to ask if you have a deadline and will always get you out on time. It is quintessentially European - it may be humble food but it will be balanced, thoughtfully prepared and attentively served. No one is posing to be seen. I feel like I am at home with friends and family.
Meal was interrupted by the power outage. Everything was great up until that point. Typically higher end restaurants handle situations like that a little better. We came for an experience that we didn’t get to receive. The black out of course wasn’t the restaurants fault.
We had a wonderful dinner here. The menu choices and preparations are very nice. We were there during the blackout and the staff handled the situation very well.
Exactly what you would expect although the portions are on the smaller side.
Father’s Day meal then Theatre. Everything was great.
Loved our red-headed female server - we were a table of all girls and she was super! Also appreciated the other assistant servers
Perfect pre theatre dinner
The servers were excellent, the salad and mushroom appetizers were very good. My hanger steak was outrageous, but the profiteroles were not worth eating. I had a glass of Bordeaux that was from 2008 and was quite good for a wine by the glass. Highly recommend the restaurant.
Good was mediocre. Onion soup was great though. Service of both the waiter and busboy left a lot to be desired. And we were the first in the restaurant so they were not busy. So many good restaurants in NY...no need to return.
We went for brunch, service was fantastic & so was the food
excellent food whether for brunch or dinner. a hot spot
Been here before, really bad service for a restaurant that wasn’t busy. Order cake out wrong, drinks weren’t refilled or offered. Disappointing
The restaurant is fine for a pre-theater meal but if you are looking for a nice dinner out, Marseille would not be my choice. The vegetable couscous and Marseille salad were both very good. The trout was good but the sauce and the potatoes underneath were cold and flavorless. The escargot appetizer was completely lacking in flavor which was a big disappointment because it is not a complicated dish to make. The staff members were very, professional, attentive and nice.
Had an early dinner with friends before the theater. Ambiance is excellent, food was very good and our server was professional and friendly. It was an excellent choice for us because you could get a full meal or just a terrific omelette or saladHighly recommend it
We had a wonderful lunch at Marseille before going to a matinee. The Mediterranean salad was delicious and filling. My friend enjoyed the chicken paillard with salad. Our server was excellent, checking occasionally that we had everything we needed, but giving us time to enjoy our lunch and catch up.
A quiet slow lunch day yesterday so my buddy and I hung out a bit which was okay with the friendly waitress and manager. Food and service hit the spot. Maybe you could lower your beer prices by a dollar, eh?
The food was excellent but the noise level in the restaurant was unbearable
Waiter was not attentive. Waited for 15 mins just to get water. The food and ambiance was good.
We love everything about Marseilles; from the staff to the management to the servers... A-1 across the board!!!! We love Sony, Tahir, the wine guy, Gabrielle... and on and on! They always remember our special moments & friends! A neighborhood gem!!!
We have dined at Marseille many times, and enjoyed our visits. This past weekend we had family come into town for a birthday celebration and felt Marseille would be a great place to dine. While the food was very good, the service was extremely sub-par. We have never been disappointed by Marseille in the past, but were greatly discouraged with the lack of attention from our waitress and other members of the staff. The waitress appeared more concerned with refilling Mimosas at the other tables than asking if we had menu questions, if we wanted any drinks other than water, or if our food was up to our expectations. While we recognize that there were many others at the restaurant that day, we watched our waitress purposefully avoid our table to attend to others who were clearly going to order more drinks, more food, and be more fun to interact with. Overall our trip to Marseille was disappointing and we are unsure if we will return anytime soon.
The managers supervised very well and oversaw everything to ensure a proper experience for diners-in other words ran a tight ship.
A very well run restaurant.
This was my third time's eating here. The food is always up to my standard. Price is good. Great place to eat before go see a play. Make sure you make reservations because the place is always packed
This restaurant is very pleasant and the food is quite good. I had a branzino special which was wonderfully prepared.
I think it gets a bit loud when full and could make use of some sound deadening ceiling material. Also, the chairs are appropriate to the decor but not comfortable.
The menu could also have more detail on some of the dishes.
We have been many times, pre-theatre. But this time we brought our daughter and eight year old granddaughter. We sat in a booth - so special! The service was outstanding and the food, as always, was terrific. Our every need was met. My granddaughter felt very special. Thank you Marseille. We look forward to being with you many more times.
Excellent for before a show. This has been my go-to for pre and post broadway dining for years!
Marseilles is a favorite of ours for pre or post theater dining as the decor and upbeat vibe, excellent food and friendly and very efficient service make the meal there as good as, or better than, the show we are seeing
I always say you never know how good anyone is until there’s a problem. Marseille’s air conditioner broke jut before lunch. We did not want to eat there. Problem. They stepped up and offered their sister restaurant down the street but we could order food from either restaurant and they brought it to us. That’s real service. The food was terrific too
Good food and attentive service. Good wine list and very good value. A bit noisy.
Marseille was the right choice after theatre on Sunday evening.
The menu offers a good variety so that people with varied levels of appetite could all find fine choices. Atmosphere was relaxed; we never felt hurried.
An all around pleasant experience.
Always great servers and host/hostesses. Wonderful choices for brunch. Burgers, salads, and omelettes delicious. Again, this visit was wonderful. Our server was particularly nice. Always feel as though I’m a special patron.
Noise level allows me to chat with friends as well. Any times I think perhaps I’d try a different restaurant pre theater, but once I consider others, Marseille is tops. Merci!
We did both dinner and a Sunday breakfast this past week. Service was excellent and the food was very good. I had the roast chicken and my husband had a special of the day, Duck a l'Orange. We shared the profiteroles for dessert - not the best we've ever had so would pass on that next time. At breakfast, the blueberry pancakes were delicious. Marseilles shouldn't, however, be so stingy with the maple syrup!
Good pre theatre standby. Typical French bistro fare.
Our favorite go to restaurant in the theatre district!
Good value for NYC. Our meals were delicious and our waiter was attentive without being obtrusive. The only drawback was the large family sitting next to us whose preteen and teens had not been taught how to behave in a restaurant. They were loud, physical with one another and even toppled over in their chairs onto the floor. Parents were oblivious. Pity the staff who had to deal with these folks.
Definitely will go back. The service was excellent & the food delicious. Loved everything about it!
Great pre theatre spot. Excellent service and food. Kitchen was able to meet my dietary needs which was great
Choice of food and wine was good. The service was attentive but not intrusive. We really enjoyed the monk fish boulabaise and had a nice bottle of Clement de Loire.
We enjoyed a wonderful meal and a bottle of wine before a 7pm show. Great service, great food, and good wine. Thirty Thursday wine special had great selections. Will come back when we are in town again.
We always enjoy Marseille. The steak tartar was delicious! I would definitely recommend it!
