Marseille is a treat. Lovely French food, beautifully prepared, an understated warm ambience, and excellent service. We often choose Marseille for before- or after-theater dining. Most often, we order the lamb and the duck—always prepared differently, and always delicious. This time, we also ordered a tender, flavorful flank steak, a delicious monkfish bouillabaisse, and a risotto appetizer (we could've eaten a vat of it). We shared the profiteroles and a caramel-laced bread pudding for dessert. Heavenly.
Our server was a gem. For those of us who were sharing, he brought servings equally divided on separate plates. He served perfectly well-done "frites" to the person who likes them crisp. Attentive and friendly, but unobtrusive. Perfect.
We had a nice lunch prior to a mid-afternoon Sunday show. The restaurant accommodated us a bit early, which was nice because we had someone in our party with mobility issues. I think everyone enjoyed their food; it was very good (but I wouldn't say it was outstanding). Service was acceptable, could have been a bit more attentive (coffee refills, for example). We'll certainly be back as the food is good, location great, and they do what they offer fairly well.
First time for brunch.
Loved the choices
Very different from most brunch selections
very enjoyable time had by our party
Excellent place for brunch! As a post-birthday celebration, we made reservations for brunch and everything was delicious. Their Bloody Marys and Pomegranate and Passion fruit Mimosas were tasty starters. We ordered the short-ribs polenta and steak and eggs were cooked perfectly and they have the best croissants!
Food was excellent. Will go again.
This restaurant always delivers. I had friends from out of town and we were going to the theater. We were promptly seated, our waiter was lovely and attentive, the food was very good and well priced and best, we were able to hear one another and have a conversation while enjoying our meal. My friends loved it!
A great choice for before or after the theatre - or anytime, really! Efficient service, good food, and love the Parisian Art Deco vibe. Recommend!
Very cute french bistro on a corner with lots of windows. I enjoyed the French Onion soup which was large enough to share. We also had the Shrimp Cocktail which was a little rubbery. Our meals were very nice. We enjoyed the creme brulee very much. Overall, it was a nice experience although the menu could be a bit more expansive.
My husband and I love to go to Marseille. We have been going predominantly to the brunch and sometimes for dinner either before or after attending the NYC Ballet performances at Lincoln Center. We take the bus in from Pennsylvania, and walk up 9th Ave. from Port Authority. We stumbled upon Marseille initially, and just ended up calling it home. The coffee is fabulous. The fresh squeezed orange juice is off the hook. The potatoes served with my most recent selection were delicious. The service is fast and friendly, yet we never feel hurried. Additionally, the atmosphere is wonderful. It has become our go-to place when we visit NYC.
Overall a good meal. Food was tasty and well prepared. Service was good. Tables are a bit tight togther and at one point the gentleman from the table next, leaned back and was almost with his elbow in my plate. Also strange for a French Bistro, the waiter did not seem to know what an apple tarte tanin was. But overall a good experience.
Had a perfect valentines day dinner date here. From the food to the ambience was just perfect. Will definitely be returning to experience their brunch
Food was great. Service was decent for a busy night.
On a very busy night (Valentine’s!) we had excellent food and service. Will definitely go back.
We had a lovely meal. The service was very good and we hope to return soon.
I have gone to Marseille a number of times and will continue to recommend it but, based on this recent lunch visit, the food quality has slipped a bit. It might be just what was ordered. Great service and a good location for pre-theater.
Excellent oysters, wine & apps! Beautiful dining experience & near many theaters.
Great food, great value, and very good service. Get the octopus as it’s a very yummy and fresh preparation. The steak frites was just what I was looking for.
Perfect pre or post theater spot. Very comfortable, tables aren’t on top of each other. Great food.
Great food and service. Nice to be in the theatre district.
Unfortunately, the omelet I received was not what I ordered. I wasn’t sure until I ate half of it. The service otherwise was excellent and the omelet was comped, but I was disappointed that I didn’t eat what I wanted.
Always consistently great food and service. It is like being in a Paris bistro. We discovered it years ago and return everytime we are in town. Pretheater time can be a bit noisy, but then it quiets down again. Love it !
My husband and I have been dining in New York City for many hears, and Marseille is perhaps our favorite restaurant. Everything from the food to the service was excellent. We shared the grilled octopus for an appetizer. For our entrees, my husband had the duck choucroute and I had the monkfish bouillabaisse. Both were exceptional. We went to this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend. We'll definitely go back.
The food was great. The waiter was inattentive but the bus staff was excellent. I took a party of six and everyone enjoyed it thoroughly.
Wonderful duck choucroute and duck a l'orange.
Mehdi. our waiter was so knowledgeable and efficient. Got us out in time for our theater, with great recommendations for dinner.
Reliable French bistro near Broadway theaters. Solid food, reasonable prices, get you out in time for your show. Onion soup and apple tart dessert are outstanding. If you sit near the bar, as we did, the noise level is very high.
Excellent food. Seated promptly (at 5:00 pm!) Service a little slow but OK. Good place for pre- or post-show eats. Decor makes you feel like you're right in Paris!
Great Brunch! The unlimited Mimosas are great. Try the Blood Orange and the Pomegranate ones. Food was excellent, the service was outstanding, and the ambiance was perfect for us to have a wonderful experience. If you want great food, excellent service and a great time I would make a reservation today!
Have been here several times, and never disappointed. Food is great, and wine list is superb.
If you get there around 730 the place empties out for Broadway shows, then it quiets down nicely.
One of my new favorite restaurants! We loved the French bistro ambiance - lovely decor, tile floors, art. It felt like being in France for a night. Our waiter was top-notch; he was attentive, personable, professional. Our courses were timed just right. I recommend the scallops and any type of fish. The duck was also tasty, as were the chocolate mousse and creme brûlée.
The food is good, but the menu has grown more generalized and tastes less French than it did formerly. Nothing is bad, but nothing is also memorable.
Food and service was spot on. The meal's pacing was perfect. The restaurant was quiet enough to have a conversation even though the place was full. There was a good selection of wines at all price ranges. It's a great place to go in the theater district.
Marseille has consistently remained a good dining experience. The food is delicious and the service is attentive. They will get you fed and to the theater without feeling rushed. As it gets crowded it gets a bit noisy, but not as bad as other restaurants. I have eaten at Marseille since it opened and I am never disappointed.
Pre-theatre charming, service was friendly, decor- sitting by huge fresh flowers in a pretty French bistro style restaurant. Really nice ambiance, we had moules frites and salad and soup, everything was delicious. They brought over little desserts and a candle for the birthday girl, too. Perfect, fast and we got to Evan Hansen right on time.
Met a friend for a celebration lunch. Johnny was our waiter and we could not have asked for better service. He was charming, made great recommendations and stayed close by but not too close. Food was delicious and Johnny added a special touch to the entire meal with his personality. Would definitely come back!
Food was ok. Wine had to be replaced, but ended up good. servers and managers were very good. Nice French Bistro in theatre district.
We found the server attentive without being cloying. It was a light supper. So just a main a salad and a starter. Bill was around 80.00 I guess wine and San Pellegrino added another 20. Pleasant and comfortable.
Very relaxing with nice lunch options.
This is the real thing: a true provincial-city French bistrot with excellent offerings, innovative and sumptuous. They make the palette sing. Service is also superb and time allotment between courses was just as it should be at lunchtime.
Initially placed at a tiny table, however when I asked for something more comfortable waitress was pleasant and found us a better table
Excellent dinner in an outstanding environment!! Service was outstanding!!
