We’re still on the lookout for a Soma go-to, near the ballpark. Marlowe is a base hit but not a home run. (Clever, we know.) That's what we're here for.
Great food & service in a fun atmosphere.
The foods (shrimp starter, benedict, crispy chicken) are salty, although the looking were good.
My husband had arranged to have a birthday dessert delivered for me as this was my birthday dinner. He had to follow up with the staff several times. Then when it came time for dessert, our waiter just asked if we wanted anything for dessert and/or coffee.........and this required that my husband had to remind him one more time about the birthday item.
It all worked out in the end, but spoiled a little surprise celebration and made him feel less than pleased.
The dinner was very good and otherwise, we really enjoyed our evening meal.
Once again they had LOUD music blaring and with the acoustics of the restaurant (lots of marble and a title floor etc.) you have to literally SHOUT across the table to be heard or hear anything. I simply do not understand why they cannot turn the music down or off when the place is full and it's already LOUD in there?!
Food was not as good as I remembered. We really got skimped on the bone marrow we ordered. It was over cooked and only really two bites worth. Burger was cooked very well. Overall not really impressed.
The service was good. Love the menu offerings, especially since it's not loaded with carbs.
However, some of the food was a little disappointing. The pork chop was super dry and way overcooked when we requested Medium. I love salt and never think things are over salted but my chicken dish was terribly oversalted but after waiting so long for it, I could not send it back and ate it anyway.
The prices are outrageous, for brussels sprouts chips. And while the deviled eggs were tasty, it's just not worth $3 each. I should have gotten the oysters instead...
Host didn’t check us in when he said he did even though both of us checked in. This resulted in an opentable nasty gram claiming we did not check in. Additional cycles and negative to an other standard lunch.
Great food and ambiance
The food was excellent! The drinks were wonderful and our server was great! We loved every moment of it!
Too loud for conversation
The Reuben and Fried chicken sandwich on the Brunch menu (May 2018) are amazing. The Juicer cocktail is my favorite.
The food was good but we had a waiter who seemed to dislike us somehow
to the point where it affected our meal. We sat at a long community table and the food and atmosphere was good. But a tiny overpriced wine pour and unfriendly waiter impacted our dinner in a negative way as we had really been looking forward.
Marlowe was amazing. A foodies dream! Craft cocktails, amazing unique flavor combinations. Looking forward to going back.
food is WAY TOO SALTY....and it has always been ever since this restaurant opened!
Mother’s Brunch. We went with our 18 month old. We had fun. Well bright lighted restaurent. Food is good and servers make sure you are comfortable.
Food and drinks were delicious! Great service.
Nice atmosphere and delicious food! Upscaled relaxed feel!
I recommend strongly for carnivores.
The marrow and ribeye are fantastic.
The space is small, but has a clean and organized feel nonetheless.
Not the classic ideal of a romantic date restaurant, but we liked it.
Wait until after sunset if you want a dimly lit vibe.
You'll have to lean in to make conversation, but the noise level isn't too bad.
Really loud restaurant, small space, and very crowded. Food was okay to good. The ribeye wasn't as good as I thought it'd be. Some parts of the steak were tough to eat. The coffee ice cream dessert was delicious though.
We arrived early and got a cocktail. The bartender, who did not smile, would not let us move the bar tab over to our table. If we knew that in advance we would of went to another bar prior. The meal was good but we felt rushed. As soon as we finish our app, they removed it before our fork were down and place the next food item. The server was fast but not friendly. The host was the best employee with a warm smile.
No review request from a year ago, when I enjoyed a pleasurable dinner 🥘 with my friends , atrium seating, I loved it, my company loved it.
Now I returned for a lunch/brunch event, atrium seating was not the same,,, not Marlow’s fault, just not our choices for mid day.....my daughter treated me for mother’s day, she said her eggs 🍳 were running !, loved the well crafted pre meal cocktails , for sure the excellent waiter on all levels, super attentive, intuitive & just enough personal approach.....against all odds to get the best of lunch menu & anti meat options, we ordered the ‘burger’.. it made up somewhat, the accompanying salad was oddly salty, not the typical ‘balsamic’ pleasant aftertaste ....so Yes, would do Dinner again, not lunch time.....not Marlow’s to blame, just our preferences .
The sides were inedible and hamburger raw honestly one of the most terrible meals I’ve had out. Will never go back!
I hadn't been to San Francisco in about seven years, which means a lot of the restaurants I used to go to (like Lulu's) are gone. So I had to do a bit of research, and somehow I found Marlowe, a little bistro in the SOMA district. I was pretty skeptical about the reviews I read that mentioned these "fried brussel sprout chips," so obviously we had to try them. And sure enough, they are quite unique and...impossibly delicious. All in all, a perfect lunch experience.
Love Marlowe!! This visit the service could have been better.
Great restaurant great staff and atmosphere.
Had different appetizers and all of them were great.
Drinks were excellent too.
The people in our table didnt want to leave, so we had to wait even though we had a reservation; but the host was super nice and gave us a free appetizer to apologize.
Great as always and hard to beat for late night great food and service!
Excellent service in a charming restaurant. Wonderful brussel sprout chips!
Highly recommend--a bit of a New York City we-are-all-in-this-together old butcher shop vibe.
Great food and service, just very loud. Not the best for a romantic dinner for two.
Perfect for brunch before a giants game! Good cocktails and the deviled eggs are a must!
If you want great food after the ballgame this place is terrific. Very busy and crowded but vibrant!
We visited Marlowe after a recommendation from a friend. The food was amazing and service excellent and quick. We were in and out in a little over an hour before waking to a Giants game. I would definitely visit again. Try the polenta, it was delicious!
Great brunch spot with a young, noisy, upbeat vibe! Simple but delicious food and excellent cocktails. Loved the spicy shrimp starter and the Burrata on toast !
Celebrated my wife's birthday there this past Saturday. We were a large group of 20, and worked to seat us all together (even though their largest table sat 16 only). the manager was very accommodating, we were sat at our reservation time, the cocktails and food were both good (I personally got the huevos rancheros, and was one of the best I have had), and our server was great (and i know with large groups this isn't so easy). All in all, very happy with having chosen Marlowe. We will be back.
Food was good but a bit oily. Waiters are not very nice. No welcome, no thank you, no goodbye.
We were at the grand opening of Marlowe's Townsend and Brannan locations; we reside between the old and new space. Despite our proximity, we rarely made time to dine here - but that will change after our last visit. Marlowe's magic is alive and well. It is better now than ever.
The food, service and overall experience was superb. It is a challenge for any restaurant to survive in this City. Marlowe has held its high standards all along, and we appreciate that. We look forward to returning again very soon.
The customer service was outstanding, our server was very nice, and it did not feel like she was rushing us as most places in the city do. We always had our drinks refilled timely. However the food was very disappointing considering all the great reviews I read. My partner had the steak, he was happy with it. Portion looked really big. I got the polenta drenched in salt. My tongue was numb by the time I was done eating. There were these amazing flavorful mushrooms that I have cooked previously and they were just sad - the flavor was all wiped away by the salt. The plate was topped with salty arugula greens. Just disappointing for such expensive dish.
I had high hopes for Marlowe. I've never been here, but it's owned by the same good folks who own Park Tavern, which is one of my favorite SF restaurants. Unfortunately, today's lunch was a total letdown. The service at 1:30 was perfunctory (except for the greeter at the door--- she was excellent). The Brussels sprout chips, which are amazing at Park Tavern, were undercooked and greasy. The shrimp roll was almost devoid of shrimp and drowned--- and I mean absolutely drowned--- in dressing. The only redeeming feature was the fries. They were excellent. But who can't get fries right?
Plus the place is EXTREMELY LOUD at lunchtime.
There are so many excellent restaurants for lunch around the CalTrain station. I probably won't be back to Marlowe--- at least not for lunch. The cocktail menu looked really tempting, so perhaps for an after-work drink?
As always awesome. Staff, especially waitress, outstanding. Personable. Love that.
Marlowe never disappoints! Always delicious. Terrific service.
