About Marlowe

Marlowe is a market driven neighborhood bistro housed in a rustic-chic and inviting space. Bright and bold flavors from a three-star chef and a little family history create an exciting new restaurant concept nestled in San Francisco’s slick SoMa neighborhood. Marlowe was created by restaurateur Anna Weinberg along with a few partners and pals.

Offering a menu of classic bistro favorites with unique and flavorful twists, Marlowe Executive Chef Jennifer Puccio, who earned three stars from the San Francisco Chronicle for her cooking at Cortez, created a mix of snacks, appetizers, mains and sides made up of the kind of food she loves to eat when she’s not working.

Little gem salad was refreshing and beautifully plated with delicate ribbons of root vegetables. Ribeye was generous-sized, juicy and served with a delicious pan sauce. Enjoyed huge scoops of their vanilla and espresso ice cream for dessert.

Jam packed! The tables are too small and too packed together to comfortable seat parties of four or more. The noise level in a packed room is high, so it became even more difficult to hear guests at our table when music was being blast above. Very distracting.

The food and service, on the hand, were exceptional. The menu could use more than just two entrees. Otherwise, a weekday lunch offering looks more like brunch.

My first time there, and certainly not the last!

We had the steak tartare, chickory salad for apps (both delish), followed by a chicken sandwich, and their outstanding burger. I'll be back!!

We had the open faced Reuben and burger. The Baker was a nice cocktail. Food good but overall
Wont rush back. Service had a sense of entitlement- doing a favor to the customer. Place is a bit cramped too-

Good place to be if you wish to be with a young crowd. Food is quite good at a reasonable price. Service is a bit less attentive than I would have expected. Space is tight and tables are small.

Marlowe is a meat lovers delight.
High quality food and excellent preparation.
Our server was great. She was friendly and genuinely concerned about our experience.
Noise level is a bit high during late lunch for conversation since I have some hearing loss, and Marlowe is a popular spot.
It is quieter during early lunch or dinner.

Everything was great! Foods amazing and front hosts/ servers offered drinks while we waited for our table. Would give five stars only problem was I booked the reservation a week prior 8pm and we have to wait until 830 for our table

Actually, I've always wanted to give this restaurant a 5 star, because every time I would fly up to Bay area this place would be to go for brunch or drinks and I would drive from San Jose after flight from San Diego just for their Pimm's Cup cocktail and some nibble... Unfortunately, after 4 times dinning here this last Saturday 1/27/18 I lost my appetite for Marlowe because of how unwelcome we felt, we made very late 10:30 PM Saturday reservation, we flew in to SF very late so there was not a lot of options to dine so late and when I saw Marlowe on Open Table for 10:30 PM I was exited to try their dinner service, since we loved it previous times.. so we show up on time we have our dinner and of course my fave Pimm's cup and food was decent I mean the kitchen folks were rushing meal, I asked my rib eye medium rare and it came out rare ...

However, since we came so late we could tell everything was rushed and the worst part the staff turned on the lights bright right after we said we don't want any desert... Like really Marlowe? If we are not paying more you low key want us out ? I understand its 11 PM and people want to go home and we are the last table at the restaurant, but its lack of professionalism to turn on the lights bright when you seated us and we are paying for the experience...
It's pity, for great restaurant that it is. Not coming here again, there's other good places in San Francisco with great food, drinks and service that you don't need to feel rushed...

The only reason I gave it a 4 star is because when I ordered the devil egg, I didn’t even get the full egg, it was ‘half’ an egg for a price.
Other than that the food tasted great, ambiance is great and the music is awesome. Oh and we paid over $70 just for four alcoholic beverages 😱

We took our son for his 25th birthday. Was disappointed that they didn’t or don’t acknowledge after the restaurant asks if we were celebrating something special. Our food was delicious but our server had absolutely no personality. Kinda took the fun out of a neat restaurant.

I followed Marlowe from their previous location across from Caltrain because of the quality and consistently of the food. The good service is just a topper. Now they have cocktails that perfectly compliment their food. Two thumbs up.

Kind of disappointed with the meal. Brussel sprout chips tasted delicious but were soggy - I don’t think the oil was hot enough! And the cod was also very good but seems as if it sat in the kitchen for a while before the server brought it to the table.

Marlowe is compact, informal, minimalist, basic and good. It is also noisier than I like personally, and a bit too cheek-by-jowl. But the food (variations on French bistrot classics, plus locavore inflections and Californiana) involve simple preparations that are invariably tasty, and offer good value, tho prices have crept up and may soon break the good-value-for-money barrier. Very good wines carefully curated; limited BTG choices. Some service breakdowns on this visit, but we were not rushed anyway, so no harm done. I will continue to go back. If you hope to have a conversation with an associate or friend, be sure you both are under 35, or plead for a relatively quiet table, with the emphasis on relative.

My wife took me to Marlowe to celebrate my birthday for Sunday brunch. The place was vibrant with a bunch of young people enjoying the delicious food. It's in a neighborhood undergoing a transition and leading the way. Definitely worth going to.

Great aesthetics. Loud lively dinner vibe. Tasty good. Service was ok. Took forever for entree to come, but they made up for that with free dessert. That earned me back respect. All in all, I would come back.

Patrons are loud Silicon Valley types so know that you may be sitting next to a loud venture capital deal happening at the table next to you. Otherwise, the food is good but maybe over-hyped; the wine is wonderful. I came for the decor and was not disappoint at least in that. Good for Instagram photos.

Good food, nice service, crowded, popular place, noise level unacceptable. The Hamburger & the Rack of Lamb were perfect. As the evening wore on we were finally able to talk to each other. Perhaps it would be better to come later to this place. Service was pleasant & right on time. The prices seemed fair.

Good place, good chef, reasonable prices but terribly noisy.

The menu rarely ever changes which gets very boring. They need to change it up. Also, they always have super LOUD music playing and with the marble and acoustics it would already be a very loud restaurant, but with the blaring music you have to yell across the table at your dining companion which is annoying and unprofessional when you're having a business meal.
