Marlowe is a market driven neighborhood bistro housed in a rustic-chic and inviting space. Bright and bold flavors from a three-star chef and a little family history create an exciting new restaurant concept nestled in San Francisco’s slick SoMa neighborhood. Marlowe was created by restaurateur Anna Weinberg along with a few partners and pals.
Offering a menu of classic bistro favorites with unique and flavorful twists, Marlowe Executive Chef Jennifer Puccio, who earned three stars from the San Francisco Chronicle for her cooking at Cortez, created a mix of snacks, appetizers, mains and sides made up of the kind of food she loves to eat when she’s not working.

Marlowe Ratings and Reviews
We got our reservation 1 hour before dining which was perfect because we had to be in the neighborhood for an errand and Marlowe has been on my list for a long time. I’ve heard so many good things and was frankly disappointed. It was extremely busy and that resulted in it being very loud. A lot of big groups celebrating for the holidays; many of which had too much to drink and were practically screaming. I go out so no judgment but didn’t expect that from a finer dining scene. I wanted a nice date night where I could hear my husband across from me more than the drunk lady across the room. The food was really rich but not amazing, not a lot of health or vegetarian/pescatarian options. My husband got gr burger I’ve heard so much about it is was “fine.” Our server was nice but wasn’t exceptional however when waiting for our table (in a small standin space they have for waiting guests) multiple stopped by to ask if we needed drinks which I appreciated.
We'd been to Marlowe on other occasions - didn't remember service being so slow (i.e. the time it took for our meals to be delivered to the table) once we had placed our order. Food was OK but nothing really special, given the very large price tag. Staff were helpful with facilitating the presentation and cutting of the birthday cake we had brought in with us.
Obviously a restaurant more for the young, downtown business set, my sister and I were nevertheless received very cordially and seated where we could tuck our niece's baby (in her stroller) out of the way. It seemed that we had the only table in the restaurant where that would work, so we were very happy. Hamburger was delicious: flavorful and cooked just right. My sister loved her angus steak salad. With all the added taxes etc., we were a bit surprised by our bill, but for what we needed (walking distance from Adobe's offices on Townsend), it was perfect! An added bonus is that the SF flower market is near by. Would definitely go here again, should I need a restaurant in that area. Marlowe has a limited, but very tasty-sounding menu.
Everything was fine till they offered and sold my friend an after dinner drink and then asked us to leave before she could drink it. Then I got to stand outside alone in a sketchy neighborhood and watch the staff hang out inside while I waited for my car. Sell her the drink or don't but you can't have it both ways. Just a disappointment and embarrassment for me for picking the restaurant.
The food was good, service was great.
Noise level was extremely high causing everyone to yell even louder just to speak across the table.
Really did not like having to pay a so called SF mandate of $12 to cover employee health benefits.
Not worth the aggravation.
Menu was too limited. Only 2 main entree choices? Also, one of my co-workers is vegan and you could not accommodate her at all. With all the vegetables you have for your other dishes, you could no whip up something for her and when she asked to add avocados to her salad minus the steak you communicated it could not be done. Even though there were avocados in some other menu items, it was communicated that you only had enough avocados for the meals that came with it and could not replace the steak in her salad for avocado. That is pretty bad customer service. As far as the menu items we ordered it was just meh...:-( Brussels Sprouts of course were great, the chicken gnocchi entree was not very exciting and the chicken was dried. The steak salad was ok, the shrimp sandwich was unappetizing. It had more cabbage and sauce that actual shrimp, burger was mediocre, etc. Will not be coming back. Server was nice though and very present. I enjoy your sister restaurants Leo's and Park Tavern but this one hmm...
I absolutely loved the food and the ambiance. Marlowe is a hip restaurant with an exciting menu. I also thought most of the waitstaff were phenomenal and very friendly. I had some misunderstandings with the bartender, but everyone else seemed to enjoy him. That can be solved by not eating dinner at the bar in the future. For the food, I definitely recommend a trip to Marlowe.
