What Insiders Are Saying
We’re still on the lookout for a Soma go-to, near the ballpark. Marlowe is a base hit but not a home run. (Clever, we know.) That's what we're here for.
Server was A+. Lunch food was good but not Wow. Acoustics made it too loud to talk comfortably at our table. Like many places in SOMA, Marlowe is more hype than substance for this visit.
Marlowe was fantastic. We were blown away by the amazing service. The reservation before us was taking quite a while to finish up so they weren’t able to seat us at our reserved time but they more than made up for it. They sent a waiter over to where we were waiting to take our cocktail order and comped our appetizers. The entire staff was great. Food was incredible. We will definitely be back.
Love this restaurant - great food, very nice and professional staff. I cannot more highly recommend.
Eveything was more then perfect!!!
We had a great time! Our waiter was friendly and efficient. All four of us at the table shared four dishes and each plate was delightful. Food was fresh and flavors were excellent. We finished everything! We also enjoyed sparkling wine laced with thyme and Meyer lemon - just perfect! I’ll definitely come back!
We go at least once a month-as Marlowe is down the street from our house.
My boyfriend is dairy free, and I am gluten intolerant. Our server the other night told my boyfriend that taking cheese/butter out of any dish would just destroy them. Maybe there could have been a better way to say that or offer other suggestions? It was really off putting.
This interaction seems to be more the norm lately-I’d just recommend making sure servers are aware of dietary restrictions and how to speak about them.
Food was fab and service was fantastic.....definitely will be back.
We came here before the Circ show at the ball batk
Booked this place in advance for a team lunch. Despite all the reviews was not impressed with the food. Don’t think we will be back.
I took a date here for her birthday. The food was good and a solid quality however it seemed expensive for what it was. We ordered the steak and the sole. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and we were impressed by this, the sole was nice. The peanut butter bites were unexpectedly very hard and very sweet
The ambience was a little loud and it was quite crowded.
Note that this restaurant does not do candles or anything special for a birthday like other restaurants do- so felt a little disappointed by this and would not recommend it for special occasion.
Great food in a casual environment. Friendly service but be prepared to wait for the food.
Marlowe is one of SF's terrific restaurants. I first went many times to the Townsend space (which I prefer), and loved both the ambiance the bar and the food. Burger!!!! Sprouts!!!
The newer space on Brannan feels crowded, and the noise level is very high. Forget first date time.
Wait staff was wonderful and informative. I had an excellent pork chop dinner with the ubiquitous chips and a shared caesar before, a Santa Ynez wine and olive cake.
Food is great - just wish the tables were not so jammed together making conversations very challenging. On both sides you hear everyone's topics.
Second time to Marlowe and enjoy that this high quality resto is not far from AT&T park and the Cirque du Soliel performance spaces. It has a small but creative menu. The best things are the attentive and friendly service and cool decor.
Came here a few months ago. All four of us got burgers, all four burgers arrived cold. Fries, too. They clearly had been made in advance and were just sitting around waiting to be ordered. Figured it was just a bad night. That happens. Went back two nights ago. Again, we all got burgers and they were reasonably warm this time but the buns were so stale and tough, had to eat just the patty. Cmon! What really got me, though, was that my friend asked if she could add avocado to hers and our server flatly said, “the chef doesn’t allow any additions to our burgers.” If you make a truly special burger then you get to be pretentious about it. These are not special burgers by any stretch. Cool atmosphere at the restaurant, but the attitude ruined it for me. Won’t go back.
Great Cocktails and Excellent Service . Entrees not so great :/
Great food, cocktails, service, ambience. What more could you want?
Love this spot. We come out to Marlowe frequently! Great food and service every single time.
Spent NYE here! Pre-fixe menu with tasty options and incredible ambiance. Made the night all the more special!
My new favorite burger in SF. Try the Marlowe burger!
Marlowe has an excellent and varied menu. Our favorite is the burger, one of the best in San Francisco. Our companions had chicken and pasta, which were also great. Only downside is jammed in table, too near dining neighbors.
Walking distance to ATT stadium. Parking next door. Good burger. Good service. Reasonably priced.
Great food and service!! The waiter was very friendly and everything tasted wonderful. Perfect spot for brunch
Went for lunch. Surprisingly quiet, though full of lively good looking folks. The food was excellent...had the fried chicken sando. Delish. Bloody Mary was one of the best ever. Yes, ever. Spicy and a little thick. Something about house-made hot sauce, the bartender said. Can't remember, as I was in bloody mary heaven. Gorgeous atmosphere, but I'm a sucker for bistro style. Loved the strict black & white palette.
I didn't realize they also have a location in the (ugh) Marina in the (double ugh) actual famed Triangle, across from Balboa Cafe. If I knew that before & I was being honest, it may have (probably) negatively colored my experience at the SOMA spot.
After hearing so much raving about their burger, I thought that it couldn’t live up to the hype, but it was the tastiest burger that I’ve ever eaten, by far. My table also got the Brussels sprout chips, tempura string beans, broccoli soup with cheddar soldiers and the polenta. We loved it all but the Brussels sprout chips were everyone’s favorite. I’ll be coming back for those and the burger as soon as I can! The service was very friendly, helpful and thoughtful. We asked for 2 spoons for 2 of us to share the soup and they brought us each our own bowl.
Too much butter and oil and cheese! Cute, cozy local spot.
Great food. Great service....brown butter brussel sprouts were awesome
Classic food not much innovative, tables too close to each other and the noise level is somehow too loud. I would choose Cockscomb next door as it seems more innovative and much cheaper.
Too expensive for what you get , the food is okay, the service is not great, our table was not ready on the the time of our reservation and nobody was apologizing about it we had to stand and wait ( with my older parents) for 15 minutes, we will not come back it recommend this place.
We went to Marlowe before going to AT&T park to see Cirque du Soleil. The burgers, fries and salad were really good! Good service, great location. Would definitely go back!
Weekend brunch menu is amazing. I wish they had it every day.
Amazing food and great service!
We went for weekend brunch. Three people. Had the French toast soldiers as an appetizer. Ordered pancakes, palenta, and a burger. All were good. Service was friendly and prompt. Nice to have a brunch place where you can make reservations in San Francisco rather than the usual long wait.
Great place. Hopping but great service. Cozy and fun!
We booked a reservation at Marlowe prior to seeing Volta-Cirque du Soleil at AT&T park. Our family of four was stuffed in a tiny table adjacent to the very packed bar. As the person seated on the aisle of the table with the full bar, at my back I was bumped into multiple times, and told to squeeze in tighter by the staff. The restaurant became so overcrowded that it felt uncomfortable to be eating as all the eyes of the people waiting were staring at our family like seagulls waiting to pounce. We literally were in and out within an hour - $225.
Our waitress was very professional, this situation was not her fault. I think the management at Marlowe might try and do a better job at properly seating their guests away from the eyes of hungry patrons, and allow their diners to enjoy their meal without feeling rushed or bumped into. Just saying!
I've been to Marlowe numerous times for both lunch and dinner, and I'm always happy when I leave. The food is great, the service is above and beyond (in my experience), and just generally a good dining experience. Reservations are recommended if you don't want to potentially wait for a table, and I've always been seated quickly when it's time for the reservation (or even earlier than the reservation).
The service was superb. Our server was very accommodating when I asked for a different (more private) table. With each course, the server checked in to see how we were liking or not liking the food and drinks, offering to take the item off the check if we didn't like it for any reason. We ended up ordering too much food. Our server seemed to have anticipated this and checked in with us half way through the meal to let us know that he hasn't put in all the orders so we can cancel items that have not been served. I felt like VIP.
We like to go to Marlowe as it it in the neighborhood. Cocktails are very good and bartenders are friendly and helpful. Food is always consistently tasty. Try the cauliflower gratin. Petrale sole is a good choice. One issue- this is the first time we have had really poor service. We are certain our waiter was high. He was forgetful and inattentive and seemed out of it.
We have always enjoyed Marlowe... it did not disappoint me now again
This is possibly my favorite restaurant in SF. The burger is unreal, and the service is top notch, and the ambiance is great. It hits on every note. They also saw the note about the fact that it was our anniversary, and each person we interacted with said "Happy Anniversary!" They also brought us some sparkling wine as a cheers as well.
The food was amazing. We had the tempura green beans, burrata, and a burger. The wine list is very well curated. I have to say our waiter was outstanding. Overall a great experience.
A person in our party request that
onion be omitted from any of the entree’ ( she is pregnant ) and her salad had shallots in it. Server notified and salad was replaced without shallots.
