What Insiders Are Saying
We’re still on the lookout for a Soma go-to, near the ballpark. Marlowe is a base hit but not a home run. (Clever, we know.) That's what we're here for.
Very accommodating for our friend's 92nd birthday, with dietary restrictions and a service dog! Food superb, as always. Marlowe Burger, Bone Marrow, Oysters, Brussels Sprouts Chips, Asparagus with prosciutto and a poached egg--yum! Always our favorites.
Great food and even better service. Our water glasses were never empty, our food was right on time, our bill came promptly and we left very happy. I had the scallops which were complimented by a bed of corn and leeks while my husband had the burger which he really enjoyed.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars on the ambiance was because the tables are very close together so you feel like your dining with the person next to you. Not to mention when our neighbour got up, his butt almost knocked over our drinks.
Value was a 4 since it was a tad pricey but only a tad!
If you know me, you know I don't eat peas. But Marlowe's Di Stefano burrata with english peas and mint blew my mind. The grilled levain had a lot to do with it, but I actually can't stop thinking about this dish. I also got the Anson Mills polenta which was perfection.
Too loud, very good service. Food wasn't as good as the price
Nice menu, pleasant atmosphere, food was good but over salted...a common problem with these younger American brasserie type restaurants (I.e. The Smith in NYC)
We love the food here and the service is always outstanding. If only they could do something about the noise level, it's really loud.
Marlowes has been a favorite spot for over 9 years.
I waited over a week to write this review, but now I feel comfortable in posting. My partner booked us a table at Marlowe on the 6th of July for a date night; he knows how much I like bone marrow dishes, so this restaurant was booked based on info available online and Marlowe seemed to have a good reputation for it. Ironically, everything else about our evening was lovely, but the one bone marrow dish we were served was hands-down the worst I'd ever had. My portion had zero marrow in it (I was scraping salt and garnish off nothing), and my partner's serving was meagre.
The Anson Mills polenta with mild mushrooms was delicious, cocktails were great, desserts were great (get the freshly baked cookies!), service was efficient, but yes sadly the bone marrow was a fail. My partner and I are nice people though, so we still tipped appropriately, despite paying $17+ for a lacklustre dish. I emailed the restaurant directly soon after to let them know in greater detail our experience, and the restaurant chose to never respond – which I have factored into the customer service rating of my review. We're in the era where people talk about almost everything online, and we live with social media, so I believe it's poor practice whenever a business thinks they can ghost people. Had they been willing to reach out to me in a reasonable amount of time then I would've adjusted my ratings, but I don't appreciate being ignored. That's just my 2 cents on one experience.
Marlowe serves quite good food, with decent service in a pleasant setting. Famous for its hamburgers and crispy brussels sprouts, the menu includes and especially delicious steak salad with tart vinaigrette,
My only negative is what seemed to be an excessive attention to the bottom line. My Arnold Palmer came with very little lemonade. Having drunk a quarter of it, I asked whether it could be topped up with lemonade. The glass came back still only three quarter full with maybe an eighth of an inch of added lemonade. Why not fill it up? Then the waiter asked my companion if she wanted more lemonade and of course charged us ($5) for the second glass. These are not major sins but they bespoke excessive concern with squeezing a few dollars more, rather than making customers happy. In the long run, there's more money to be made, not to mention good will, in the latter.
My girlfriend and I were celebrating a special occasion so we decided to head to Marlowe for dinner. We were greeted by the host upon arrival and were sat immediately. All the staff were friendly and hospitable. The kind server even brought out a dessert with a candle with it. My girlfriend loved it and I want to give a special thanks for great service and delicious food.
We will definitely be back.
Tried the Glitterbomb drink...it was the bomb! The brussel sprout chips were fabulous as always.
Great brunch! Two of us had the open faced deviled egg sandwich. We both loved it! The bacon was delicious, too.
There were seven of us and we were able to get a table. We were close to the kitchen, but realize that with a party of 7 it can be challenging.
An Sf favorite that me and my gf always have visit.
Delicious as always!
The food was excellent, but the service was not. The servers were curt, inattentive and confusing, and removed silverware and food items that were still in use/being eaten multiple times. Wish I could give a higher review because I really did enjoy the food, but the poor service really took away from the experience.
Love Park Tavern and I wanted to try the original for years now. We arrived early for a reservation and were promptly seated. Our waiter, Bob, was excellent and the food was lovely too. My husband and I split the Burrata, gem salad and a burger which the kitchen was kind enough to split for us. I will definitely be back because our experience was such a seamless success.
Great food, convenient location, excellent wait staff. Allow extra time to get food to table, especially if you have a scheduled event to attend, and a bit pricey. Brussels sprout chips converted me from a hater, to a lover-must try!
Food tastes were incredible
Noise level is rediculos
Actually a family get together. We are all still dreaming about the food and experience. I highly recommend coming here and as it is busy -Opentable is the best way to get in
Loved the food and our servers were great. Very glad to hear that Steve
Dustin is back as well and the servers
Were singing his praises.
Only reason for four stars was the SF
Techies on either side of us but it was
Good if silly entertainment
Hope to be back soon
Top-notch, attentive, and accommodating!
This experience would have been excellent except for one issue. I mistakenly told the reservationist it was our anniversary and the server took the liberty to offer us two glasses of champagne. We were not offered a choice so I considered that a complimentary service. When the check arrived we were charged $42 for the two glasses of champagne on top of the appetizer, two full entrees, a mid-range bottle of wine, and dessert. I would rather have a great end-to-end experience and write a 25% tip than be rope-a-doped and taken advantage of. The last thing you want to do is question the check on your anniversary.
Great food & service in a fun atmosphere.
The foods (shrimp starter, benedict, crispy chicken) are salty, although the looking were good.
My husband had arranged to have a birthday dessert delivered for me as this was my birthday dinner. He had to follow up with the staff several times. Then when it came time for dessert, our waiter just asked if we wanted anything for dessert and/or coffee.........and this required that my husband had to remind him one more time about the birthday item.
It all worked out in the end, but spoiled a little surprise celebration and made him feel less than pleased.
The dinner was very good and otherwise, we really enjoyed our evening meal.
Once again they had LOUD music blaring and with the acoustics of the restaurant (lots of marble and a title floor etc.) you have to literally SHOUT across the table to be heard or hear anything. I simply do not understand why they cannot turn the music down or off when the place is full and it's already LOUD in there?!
Food was not as good as I remembered. We really got skimped on the bone marrow we ordered. It was over cooked and only really two bites worth. Burger was cooked very well. Overall not really impressed.
The service was good. Love the menu offerings, especially since it's not loaded with carbs.
However, some of the food was a little disappointing. The pork chop was super dry and way overcooked when we requested Medium. I love salt and never think things are over salted but my chicken dish was terribly oversalted but after waiting so long for it, I could not send it back and ate it anyway.
The prices are outrageous, for brussels sprouts chips. And while the deviled eggs were tasty, it's just not worth $3 each. I should have gotten the oysters instead...
Host didn’t check us in when he said he did even though both of us checked in. This resulted in an opentable nasty gram claiming we did not check in. Additional cycles and negative to an other standard lunch.
Great food and ambiance
The food was excellent! The drinks were wonderful and our server was great! We loved every moment of it!
Too loud for conversation
The Reuben and Fried chicken sandwich on the Brunch menu (May 2018) are amazing. The Juicer cocktail is my favorite.
The food was good but we had a waiter who seemed to dislike us somehow
to the point where it affected our meal. We sat at a long community table and the food and atmosphere was good. But a tiny overpriced wine pour and unfriendly waiter impacted our dinner in a negative way as we had really been looking forward.
Marlowe was amazing. A foodies dream! Craft cocktails, amazing unique flavor combinations. Looking forward to going back.
food is WAY TOO SALTY....and it has always been ever since this restaurant opened!
Mother’s Brunch. We went with our 18 month old. We had fun. Well bright lighted restaurent. Food is good and servers make sure you are comfortable.
Food and drinks were delicious! Great service.
Nice atmosphere and delicious food! Upscaled relaxed feel!
I recommend strongly for carnivores.
The marrow and ribeye are fantastic.
The space is small, but has a clean and organized feel nonetheless.
Not the classic ideal of a romantic date restaurant, but we liked it.
Wait until after sunset if you want a dimly lit vibe.
You'll have to lean in to make conversation, but the noise level isn't too bad.
