Offering a menu of classic bistro favorites with unique and flavorful twists, Marlowe Executive Chef Jennifer Puccio, who earned three stars from the San Francisco Chronicle for her cooking at Cortez, created a mix of snacks, appetizers, mains and sides made up of the kind of food she loves to eat when she’s not working.
Pork chop and chicken dried out, server didn't come by table until 20 minutes after food was delivered
What a magical place! Thank you to our server Vicky for creating a beautiful Saturday brunch for us.
Okay place for a late night bite.
Stellar service - the whole experience was friendly, knowledgeable, helpful. We wanted for nothing. The food was SO GOOD. We tried a little bit of everything and had a hard time picking our favorite.
The food was good and the atmosphere energetic. our issue was primarily with service. It would be helpful for everyone from the hostess to the wait staff to the servers to get a course in customer service.
Extremely underwhelming experience! Overly crowded and loud, rude wait staff, all of which was compounded by the fact that they were out of multiple drinks and menu items at our 6:30pm reservation. Very disappointing.
A good restaurant can make the mundane (cheeseburger & fries) sublime. Horseradish aioli on the burger makes all the difference, and the crispy, salty fries were perfect.
The food is fantastic. We had the fava bean humus, gem salad, polenta, steak & bread pudding. The humus, the steak, salad and the bread pudding were excellent. My wife thought the polenta needed more seasoning. I thought it was fine. They did forget my beer or got confused about it. But overall it was a good experience and I’d go back there for the food!
Service was not the best, but ok. They weren't the greatest at removing empty glasses from finished drinks. The apps also hit the table before the drinks did as well. The grilled prawns with the spicy boozy cocktail sauce, was absolutely outstanding! The best I've ever had. I would come again for that and the burger. The peanut butter chocolate bites were also amazing! As for the rest of the food, although the quality of ingredients and meat is high, and well prepared, I didn't think the sets and dishes were put together thoughtfully. Lack luster at best. We ordered the steak, which was cooked to perfection and excellent quality. The demi had wonderful flavor, but the the set that came with it was not good. Everything was too rich. There was a salsa verde that came with, it which was an attempt to add acidity to the dish, but it wasn't enough. Everything on the plate (the breaded portabella, truffle aoili and the steak itself) was too rich. It wasn't a well balanced dish. The beet and cous cous set that came with the Salmon was also nothing to write home about. They were however thoughtful in terms of music choice. They were playing reggaeton and lots of Bad Bunny, which we were pleasantly surprised by and enjoyed it since we were going to see Bad Bunny at the Chase Center that evening!
Food was not very good. The burger meat tasted off, the shrimp and salmon were extremely fishy, and the Brussels sprouts chips were too heavy on oil.
Had a great meal and cocktails. This is a terrific spot.
Whenever my family comes to visit SF we ALWAYS stop here for brunch, lunch, or happy hour. The view is incredible and the food and service can’t be beat!
Food and ambiance is great. We had to wait for our food for a bit but we didn't mind since the food and environment was so nice.
Really loved the charred octopus salad! Also, be prepared for strong drinks ;)
Great cocktails, delicious food and presentation, and fun atmosphere. They were also accommodating with our reservation time since we were running late from a show.
This place is delicious. Everything we ate was perfection. We had both brussel sprout dishes - chips and roasted, and then the chicken and salmon were both so good! Definitely will be back.
The food is good, the service is not. Brunch for one $50: i had to ask to have my order take . I had to ask for my drink that sat on the bar for 10 minutes. No one asked how my food was. I had to ask for my check. Essentially if you don’t mind self service the food is great, just don’t expect any customer service. Sad, it used to be one of the best brunch options.
Always a great experience. very attentive staff. The salmon bagel is exceptional along with the rest of the menu
Great staff but food just average and uninspired.
We went for any early dinner and were seated at the tables near the bar. We had a great meal and great advice. Really liked our waiter! One thing that could use a little improvement... the tables are so close together. Hardly any place to put my purse or coat.
I was very happy with the welcoming my mother and I had as soon as we walked into Marlowe. It was very heart warming and welcoming. The food quality was great. The wine selection was exceptional. We are looking forward to returning to dine at Marlowe very soon.
Amazing service and ambiance as always. The food was absolutely delicious.
The menu is not big, but allows for varied tastes. You can almost always find something you're sure to like. Excellent food!
First time in and had the burger at the suggestion of our server. Not disappointed, the horseradish sauce adds a nice flavor
I came here with my boyfriend for his birthday. We have been interested in dining at Marlowe for a long time given that Marlowe is my name as well. The food was lovely, and the service was decent. I was annoyed however that leading up to our reservation I tried calling the restaurant for two days and no one picked up or returned my messages. I was also annoyed at the fact that our waiter didn’t comp at least one of our drinks given the fact it was a birthday. I spent over $120 on what was a great meal but the service could have definitely been better. After working in the restaurant industry for many years I believe in giving people an extra special dining experience on their birthdays. I did not get that at this restaurant, however I would still recommend it to others due to the food and ambiance. Beware of allowing the waiter to choose your wine without asking for the price first as well- made that roomy mistake. Great wine but $21?! Also was a bit noisy especially on a Tuesday night. We were expecting it to be a bit calmer and were given a seat right next to the open door. For a birthday I was hoping to get a more intimate spot not next to cold wind blowing in:/
Shadazen like a sombodie naw’mean!
We were having a business dinner with colleagues and everyone really enjoyed their dinner. The wine selection was wonderful! Thank you to the server for his professionalism
Delicious food. The deviled eggs are outstanding!
I’ve been many times. Food is great. This time had a rude, loud and very challenging experience with a waitress at the bar that actually shocked me. I will not return while she works there.
Happy to share the details directly with the manager or owner. It’s not something I would write about in detail for everyone in the world to see.
But it was very very weak.
Amazing food, amazing decor and great service. We will definitely be back next time we are in SF!
Food was still great, Marlowe never messes this up. Service was slow and sometimes inattentive, plus the reception was quite rude. I’ve been to Marlowe many times and I used to consider this as my go-to, this has been my worst experience, which made me re-assess whether Marlowe is still worth it. It is a bit sad that I hyped this place up so much to my out of town guests and got us so excited, and Marlowe met none of our expectations.
We only had a limited time. I felt I didn’t have enough time to send my food back. I asked how my pork chop would be cooked, and I was told medium is what they recommend. But what I got was at least medium well. It was like cutting a block of Parmesan cheese. I think the music volume is set for people who attend too many raves and have damaged their hearing.
We sat down to brunch as the restaurant opened on Sunday morning, but our waiter kept disappearing. So drinks came and eventually the wonderful bruleed citrus with citrus curd - a sharable portion of grapefruit, oranges with a nicely crisp sugar coating and a small pot of curd to dip into. Then he vanished and we wondered where our next plates would come. Fortunately the other waiters stepped in, but we never saw our waiter again. The day was cool and sunny, the restaurant packed, and the noise level fairly high bouncing off the subway tile walls. The Anson Mills polenta with arugula, parmesean, and a truffled salsa verde and poached egg was huge and fairly heavy. After a while the truffle was overwhelming and I could not finish the very large portion as the flavors became monotonous. My companion had the buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup and crispy bacon - deliciously sweet and I ended up finishing his plate. Overall fun, we saw many burgers piled high, and deviled eggs strangely portioned as 1/2 egg. A fun place, way too loud, pick hit was the bruleed citrus - which I will make at home.
Good vibe. Very Trendy. Limited menu. Noisy. I had the Burger which was very good. The Brussels sprouts were Excellent. Not much Octopus in Octopus salad , But tasty
everything perfect although a little loud to have a full on conversation but enjoyable anyway !
The cheeseburger is one of the best I've ever had! Waiting staff were very attentive
Yes, the food was great and we loved our waitress (our waitress was attentive, made up for the negative feedback below)
Only negative feedback is that we booked a month in advance and they seated us at the communal table. Our reservation was at 5:45pm and there were plenty of empty tables. We asked to be moved but the waitress said there are reservations coming at 6:10pm...which made no sense. She wasn't helpful and when we walked to the restroom, there were still a few empty tables.
Food was outstanding; servers good; restaurant was moderately busy so kitchen delay was a bit more than acceptable. Noise level was a bit much, exacerbated by tile floor and unnecessary background music, even though we were at the west end of the table area, probably the best location. I know that noise is supposed to increase table turnover, but I would avoid Marlowe if we wanted to have a conversation, as we did, with friends. That is a shame, because the food is/was so good.
How about some wall hangings or drapes to reduce reflected noise??
first with the good - this was my second time to Marlowe and the food was great. I had salmon, their baby gem salad, and some appetizers. The waiter was nice, but he seemed busy so we didn't get quite enough attention IMHO for this kind of place. The dining area was a little warm - they could have had some fans or something to promote better ventilation. When I asked the waiter he basically told me to deal with it because of global warming. While I understand that, a simple "sorry, we'll have to do something about that but right now we cannot" would have sufficed. Their dessert menu is too gluten and dairy-based IMO also - they should carry something simple like fresh fruit.
