Offering a menu of classic bistro favorites with unique and flavorful twists, Marlowe Executive Chef Jennifer Puccio, who earned three stars from the San Francisco Chronicle for her cooking at Cortez, created a mix of snacks, appetizers, mains and sides made up of the kind of food she loves to eat when she’s not working.
What Insiders Are Saying
We’re still on the lookout for a Soma go-to, near the ballpark. Marlowe is a base hit but not a home run. (Clever, we know.) That's what we're here for.
Fantastic brunch. The pancakes and burger were delicious
Food and drinks seemed to be overpriced even for the area. $3.00 for a half an egg was absurd! Ribeye was good. Oysters were good but extremely small and pricey. Steak tartare was excellent. Waitress was attentive. Was within walking distance of our hotel. Expected more. Don't mind paying for good food but this didn't meet our our expectations.
Fantastic food, even better cocktails. Well worth the price
Food was sub par - pretty bummed to be honest . Probably won’t return and would not recommend.
The Poulet Vert was delicious!
We enjoyed our meal at Marlowe. Service was friendly and efficient. Wine selection good. Appetizers were nice. Loved the Polenta entree. We hope to return.
Love this place. One of my 'go to's' in SF. The brussel sprout chips are a must.
Took one hour to receive food, restaurant was very loud, and we were crammed into a small space.
Fourth time here. Unique and delicious brunch in a convenient SF location. Fluffy riccota doughnuts, carmelized bacon, deviled eggs, crispy chicken sandwich and cocktails all fabulous, and open table reservations made it easy! I'm so tired of trendy restaurants that make you wait 2.5 hours in a line to get in. Thank you Marlowe.
Great food and drinks in a cozy setting. Although noise level is high, you can still talk to people next to you.
I love this place everytime!
We loved the menu and tried the deviled eggs, candied bacon, chicken sandwich and burger. All excellent. Wish we had ordered the Brussel sprouts. Also donuts looked good. Very tight seating and you can hear everything people are saying.
great neighborhood oasis in SOMA
lively conversational atmosphere and attentive staff
Lovely spot for dinner in SOMA! Note the portions were large, particularly for SF.
When in SF, Marlowe. Do it. Don't make me say it again.
Was much nicer later in the evening when not so loud. Tough place to have a conversation though food and service were excellent
Food was very good, but I would get there earliest as possible for Sunday brunch. Just too noisy and busy. Could almost hear conversation of people next to you. I would ask for table away from Windows. Maybe center tables would be better. Mixed service, and did not hear specials from waiter. Did special candle and dessert for birthday celebration, though.
Really excellent food, unusual and delicious flavor combinations
Really thought I’d love it based on friend anecdotes and the photos and menu, but ordered the special and walked away pretty underwhelmed. Everyone else enjoyed it though.
We enjoyed our dinner at Marlowe. The appetizer of squid and octopus salad was delicious. The pork chop main dish was generous in its portion size and the sides accompanied the spices on the meat. We also tried the burger and fries which were cooked to perfection.
There were some disappointments -- a limited selection of dry gin to choose from, friendly but slow service, and tight table seating. I sat on the bench side which was difficult to get in and out of and was not comfortable. On the other side of the table, the straight chair needed to be swapped out as the seat itself needed repair.
Overall, the dining experience was pleasant and I would return again.
We felt our whole experience was very rushed - from sitting down to leaving we were there for 45 mins! Food came out within minutes of ordering and was good, but felt like they wanted to turn the table.
Burger not as good as I remember
The service was amazing apart from the fact they never asked for allergies while taking orders. So we ordered the burger in the menu and asked if the horseradish mayonnaise could come on the side, the waiter never mention that same mayonnaise was used in the burger. After trying the burger we realised there was Horseradish Mayo in and we asked to have it changed. So one of the main meals came eventually later that the rest.
Server was A+. Lunch food was good but not Wow. Acoustics made it too loud to talk comfortably at our table. Like many places in SOMA, Marlowe is more hype than substance for this visit.
Marlowe was fantastic. We were blown away by the amazing service. The reservation before us was taking quite a while to finish up so they weren’t able to seat us at our reserved time but they more than made up for it. They sent a waiter over to where we were waiting to take our cocktail order and comped our appetizers. The entire staff was great. Food was incredible. We will definitely be back.
Love this restaurant - great food, very nice and professional staff. I cannot more highly recommend.
Eveything was more then perfect!!!
We had a great time! Our waiter was friendly and efficient. All four of us at the table shared four dishes and each plate was delightful. Food was fresh and flavors were excellent. We finished everything! We also enjoyed sparkling wine laced with thyme and Meyer lemon - just perfect! I’ll definitely come back!
We go at least once a month-as Marlowe is down the street from our house.
My boyfriend is dairy free, and I am gluten intolerant. Our server the other night told my boyfriend that taking cheese/butter out of any dish would just destroy them. Maybe there could have been a better way to say that or offer other suggestions? It was really off putting.
This interaction seems to be more the norm lately-I’d just recommend making sure servers are aware of dietary restrictions and how to speak about them.
Food was fab and service was fantastic.....definitely will be back.
We came here before the Circ show at the ball batk
Booked this place in advance for a team lunch. Despite all the reviews was not impressed with the food. Don’t think we will be back.
I took a date here for her birthday. The food was good and a solid quality however it seemed expensive for what it was. We ordered the steak and the sole. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and we were impressed by this, the sole was nice. The peanut butter bites were unexpectedly very hard and very sweet
The ambience was a little loud and it was quite crowded.
Note that this restaurant does not do candles or anything special for a birthday like other restaurants do- so felt a little disappointed by this and would not recommend it for special occasion.
Great food in a casual environment. Friendly service but be prepared to wait for the food.
Marlowe is one of SF's terrific restaurants. I first went many times to the Townsend space (which I prefer), and loved both the ambiance the bar and the food. Burger!!!! Sprouts!!!
The newer space on Brannan feels crowded, and the noise level is very high. Forget first date time.
Wait staff was wonderful and informative. I had an excellent pork chop dinner with the ubiquitous chips and a shared caesar before, a Santa Ynez wine and olive cake.
Food is great - just wish the tables were not so jammed together making conversations very challenging. On both sides you hear everyone's topics.
Second time to Marlowe and enjoy that this high quality resto is not far from AT&T park and the Cirque du Soliel performance spaces. It has a small but creative menu. The best things are the attentive and friendly service and cool decor.
The seats are too crowded. Not very comfortable
Came here a few months ago. All four of us got burgers, all four burgers arrived cold. Fries, too. They clearly had been made in advance and were just sitting around waiting to be ordered. Figured it was just a bad night. That happens. Went back two nights ago. Again, we all got burgers and they were reasonably warm this time but the buns were so stale and tough, had to eat just the patty. Cmon! What really got me, though, was that my friend asked if she could add avocado to hers and our server flatly said, “the chef doesn’t allow any additions to our burgers.” If you make a truly special burger then you get to be pretentious about it. These are not special burgers by any stretch. Cool atmosphere at the restaurant, but the attitude ruined it for me. Won’t go back.
Great Cocktails and Excellent Service . Entrees not so great :/
Great food, cocktails, service, ambience. What more could you want?
Love this spot. We come out to Marlowe frequently! Great food and service every single time.
