Marlow Bistro Ratings and Reviews
We went a few days ago hoping for a good experience, but not really knowing what to expect. The food was excellent, the wait staff warm and helpful and efficient. We had the stuffed chicken and the steak, as well as wonderful appetizers and cocktails. Reasonably priced. We enjoyed the entire evening.
This restaurant was a pleasant surprise that I found on Yelp to take my neice to who attends Columbia University. The staff was very charming, enthusiastic about their menu and really pointed us in the right direction for ordering. I would highly recommend this restaurant for its terrific vibe, quaint atmosphere and cool bar.
The restaurant is pretty with a creative menu. Tuna crudo with tiny diced pear. Ravioli with lemon ricotta. The hostess was more perfunctory than warm. The waitress more efficient than attentive. With a location so close to Columbia U and what I'd suspect would be a broad potential employee base (students who need extra income!) it seems it would not be that difficult to hire staff members who enhance the dining experience versus ones who simply go through the motions. We did appreciate the offer to sample our wines by the glass before choosing our selections but were surprised there was no malbec available. Would definitely go back again but can't help but feel the back of the house deserves a better front of the house.
A lovely local corner bistro with views onto the Close at the Cathedral St. John the Divine, Marlow does a fine job recreating Hemingway's "a clean, well-lighted place" with a charming atmosphere and a courteous staff—and food that is as comforting as the setting.
This was my second time at Marlow's Bistro, the food and service was consistently excellent! A fantastic restaurant in the Columbia University neighborhood and is great for having lunch in a serene setting! Great for business lunches or meetings with friends.
I dine at Marlow frequently. The food is reliably quite good and the service usually excellent. On this occasion, the service was not quite as efficient as in the past. The restaurant has updated its menu and there are some interesting new offerings. Marlow continues to be a pleasant and reliable place for dinner with friends.
Love the cocktails!!! Esp. We loved the house-made aged manhattan!!! So delicious- only thing it is missing was cherries! But the drinks were our favorite. Very friendly and nice service. Love the focaccia. Overall good food but we were wondering some things were served hot but veggies that are accompanied with were cold.... if it is a hot meal, I want everything hot. It's my preference but overall good experience for sure.
What a find!! We have been back twice and had different things each time and everything was excellent. The tuna crudo and the Burrata amazing. The Brazino is some of the best in the city and the goat cheese beet ravoli were spectacular. It's our new favorite spot. The service is excellent and we tried all of the wait staff reccomendations. They were spot on. Plan on going back with friends. My husband had the octopus and thought it was delicious and he he also had the pasta. He was in heaven.
The space is beautiful, but the service was very slow. I think it took around 30 minutes for our omelettes and burger to arrive. The salad greens did not seem terribly fresh, the side of sauteed mixed vegetables was salty, and the omelettes did not seem to have enough egg and were a bit undercooked. The burger patty was delicious, but the bun was cold. This place has potential, but needs to up its game.
Food is excellent. Service leaves a lot to be desired. The hostess is rude an unfit to be the first person customers encounter. We had a reservation, yet it seemed like a burden for her that we arrived to dine. It took her forever to seat us despite learning from a waiter that our table had actually been ready. Fortunately the waiter was competent and seated us instead. No apology or concern in the world from the hostess who kept us waiting for no reason.
The atmosphere and ambiance was instantly welcoming. The restaurant is lovely. However, our service was spotty: we seemed to have two servers, with no rhyme or reason as to why, server did not know much about wine pairing when asked, etc. The bread for the table was incredibly stale. My pasta dish stated it was served with chorizo and cod, but the "chorizo" seemed to be more like cubes of some other kind of sausage with very little flavor, and there was about half an ounce if that of overcooked cod included. I would not go back, and would not recommend it.
A disappointing meal. We had heard this restaurant was one of the best in Morningside Heights. It failed to live up to even average expectations. The menu is very limited and the dishes at times overpowered the tastebuds. Two of us sent half-finished plates back to the kitchen. Little subtlety or finesse comes out of this kitchen. Our server was adequate. But the staff rushed our plates off the table, even though the restaurant was nearly half empty.
What a delicious find! There were so many memorable dishes on the menu- polenta egg "nest", gnocchi, ravioli, raw tuna appetizer, burrata and truffled green beans, summer squash with baba ganoush purée, sous vide chicken, pizza...and the most amazing desserts. We got all 4 and don't know which was the best because they were all so good! A dome of what tasted like light and fluffy coffee mousse covered with chocolate crumbs (just like tiramisu but better), strawberry pannacotta that tasted just like strawberry shortcake, a chocolate parfait with magical passion fruit and this lovely, light lavender, lemon cake which was out of this world. None were too sweet. Just perfect! Can't wait to go back! Finish your meal off with the Montenegro and you will be so satisfied. Yum!!
I dine at Marlow frequently and have never had a disappointing meal. I usually dine with a friend and we often enjoy our dinner at a leisurely pace. We've never felt any pressure to finish our meal and leave, even on nights when the restaurant was quite busy. The waiters are attentive, patient, and agreeable. I recently tried their pizza for the first time and found it very good.
