Mark's Prime Steakhouse and Seafood - Gainesville
Great atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Oh, my, the food!!! From the coconut shrimp appetizer, to the steak and the grouper, it was delicious. And the cheesecake with the pecans and peaches was so good. We had a great anniversary dinner at Mark's!
50th Anniversary fabukous
Wonderful in all respects- food, service and ambiance!
Incredible food and service! Would definitely recommend and will be back!
it was great food, great place, great everything...thank you for providing a welcoming night for my guests I sent there.
Great place to have an intimate high class meal!! Definitely recommend!
This was our first visit and since we were the first ones there, we got the best service. The food was fabulous from the wine, appetizer, dinner and desert. We will be going again.
Simply one of the best steakhouses we have ever visited. Filet was excellent and the beef tips likewise, which were an excellent value. Server knew his wine. A must visit for anyone who likes prime steak!
Steak was a disappointment. A bone in rib eye should be a fantastic piece of meat. It was tough not very flavorful. The lobster pasta dish was OK but pasta was under cooked and brittle. Will be going back to Embers for celebration meals.
Food and service are consistently excellent. Never had a bad item on the menu. Can’t wait to go back
Great food. Very good service. Would recommend. Definitely going back.
Amazing service. We arrived very late at 959 pm for a 945 reservation after baseball game and everything was absolutely excellent!!!
Good food. Good drinks.
As always great food. Service only average this trip. Wait for entree long , gave a very weak excuse as to why.
We frequent marks often and as always it's amazing. The steak is always cooked to perfection. Also the lobster mac and cheese is to die for. Good size portions. I prefer the booths the bigger dinning areas canbe a little hard to hear.
Yes pricy - extremely delicious. The staff was professional and talkative which I like. They also made great food and beverage recommendations. We sat in a booth which was fine, maybe the open area could be a little more noisy. I would definitely go back for another special occasion. Only two negatives were lots of onions in the brussels sprouts and the the peppercorn sauce was not that great.
We had not been to Mark’s in quite some time and decided to dine there this past Saturday. Great food and service as always. We thinks it’s the best place in town for prime steaks.
I thought the food was a bit overpriced for what we actually got (salmon, grouper, creamed spinach, mashed potatoes, bacon-wrapped scallops as an appetizer, and wine). The service was outstanding, and the wine was very good.
Always our most special place to celebrate our special moments
Great Valentine's Day experience here. While it was a set menu, I felt the variety was great. The only downside was that the kitchen got backed up and as a result we had to wait quite a while in between courses. What is the point of doing a set menu, if you aren't able to get the food out in a timely manner? Nevertheless, it was a great experience and we will definitely return. $165 a couple for 4 courses.
I have been to Mark's several times with good results but this last experience was bad enough that I won't ever go back. I ordered the Delmonico steak, which I expected to be a boneless ribeye. I should have asked what cut I was getting. They brought me something that resembled a New York strip and was the toughest piece of beef I've ever cut into. It had zero marbling, zero flavor and apparently had been through no aging process whatsoever. It was awful. I rarely ever send back food but this steak was terrible and I couldn't spend a special evening wrestling with a shoe-leather piece of meat, so I sent it back. Even for a New York strip it was very poor quality. It was replaced with a boneless ribeye that was quite good and the manager was nice about it. But, by the time the second steak was served, everyone else had finished their dinner. Mark's used to top everyone for their steaks but the quality isn't anywhere near what it used to be.
Nice atmosphere and decor. Food was delicious. Our Server Jon was awesome, very nice, prompt, great service.
Very nice steak house, excellent service
The food was good, but overall I think we prefer Shula’s; which has incredible food and a little more intimate seating. The steaks were good but just nothing special. I was a little surprised at how brightly lit the dining area was, and we could very easily overhear the conversations of the people seated to either side of us. It left the ambiance a bit lacking. Overall it was good, but I’m not sure we will be making an effort to go back.
Great night out! The burger and fries were delicious!!
Each time, me and the Wife would go, everything we ordered, was above Standards.
I had never sat in the middle room. Not so nice looked like a bad banquet hall! Service was outstanding though
Everything was excellent. Our server Peter was super and knowledgable of the food menu and the wine menu. the scallops were amazing. the bread and butter was yummy and the steaks were cooked to perfection and every bite was delicious. The entire staff was well organized and calm and peaceful. Very pleasant. Marks is now my new favorite place in Gainesville. I went in early December to take my employees out for a Christmas dinner. We all loved our entrees. this past weekend my husband and I came for our anniversary. It was his first visit. He loved as much as I did. I have a hard time finding a place that I thoroughly enjoy dining. I am very picky because I have a passion for food and cooking and I feel that I have hard time getting any food that is better than what I cook. Marks is an exception!! I specifically plan my vacations with food involved in the must have or must try places to eat. I usually am not too impressed. my expectations are greater than the product! all the reviews make the places seem great, but then I am usually let down. Marks Prime did not disappoint. I am very impressed.
We had a great meal--food is always wonderful, although be prepared to spend.
It was okay. I had heard such wonderful things...I expected better. We were surprised that the server decanted our wine (which did not need to be decanted and he said as much).
Loved the lobster escargot. Unfortunately, I requested my steak to be cooked “warm pink”, I got medium rare. My husband said his steak was good. The lyonnaise potatoes were more like steak fries. The banana bread pudding was regular bread pudding with some slices of banana on top. And it was cold.
Bottom-line: we had a nice time but I don’t know that we would rush back. There are plenty of places where we could get a nice meal for half the price.
Steaks were not the caliber that Marks usually does. Very disappointed!
Our favorite restaurant in the state. We look forward to going every time we’re in Gainesville.
Sabrina rules. Amazing food. Just eat here. You will not regret it.
Heater not working. Food not very good. Overcooked. Valet ruined tire. Not a good experience at all
Mark’Prime has never disappointed us! Excellent food, prepared well and served well. The server was very knowledgeable about wine and the pairings were spot-on. My favorite appetizer is the escargot and my top steak is the ribeye...both were delicious. Can’t wait for our next visit.
We love Mark’s Prime. We feel it is as good if not better than Shula’s in Gainesville. On this trip however we were so disappointed. I made the reservation at 8 pm for Christmas Eve. When we arrived we were told we were the last reservation for the night and were reminded consistently from the hostess to every employee that passed us that they wanted us to finish and leave so they could go home. Our waiter was very good but it was uncomfortable throughout our meal that everyone wanted us to leave. We got our dessert to go. Was never offered coffee. Such an uncomfortable situation! If they didn’t want to book a reservation at 8 then open table should’ve only had reservations until 7 We were gone by 9:30!
Nice place but pricy. Everything is a la carte. The waiter warned us that the twice-baked potatoes were 1 lb each so we luckily shared one order for the two of us. Don’t know why he didn’t suggest that about the veggies as they were served family style and just as large a portion as the potato. I ordered the filet and received the mini filet, so I don’t understand the confusion.
I've eaten at Mark's before and experienced elegant service and delicious food. This time, however, the food was disappointing and we felt quite rushed, as our waiter was relentless in checking up on us, to the point of constantly interrupting our conversation. We would have stayed for dessert but by that time had lost interest, and were in and out in little more than an hour.
My salad and the bread and wine were excellent, but my son's Delmonico steak was overcooked (he asked for medium rare) and my salmon was not grilled, it was raw--I suppose I could have sent it back to be cooked more, but by that point we weren't eager to stay. As for our side dishes, the fingerling potatoes--indicated on the menu as crisp--were actually sopping with butter, and the grilled asparagus--except for two stalks--was old and tough.
After reading some of the recent reviews I had mixed feelings about going to Mark’s. Due to their overall high rating I decided to take my friends there to celebrate a birthday. I’m so glad I did.
We were early for our reservation and were still seated right away.
We ordered the crab cakes (delicious and full of crab), petite filet migons (~$32 each) and the 11oz filet (~$40), with twice baked potatoes (~$8 each) and grilled asparagus (~$9). It is ala carte. (Similar family style side portions to Ruth’s Chris Steak House). Delicious warm bread and butter came with the meal.
Our server Paul was friendly, efficient and accurate. Drink refills were on time.
My guests’ steaks and sides were, “The best they’ve ever tasted.” My filet was ordered medium and parts of it were well done. I ate the medium parts and let our server Paul know about the well portions. He immediately offered to replace the filet. I declined because I did eat the medium parts. His manager came over later and apologized as he had seen the steak when it was brought back and he removed it from our check. I didn’t ask for it to be taken off the bill, it was a kind gesture.
They also gave my friend a complimentary dessert for his birthday.
The atmosphere was of fine dining, quiet and peaceful. While the majority of guests were in dress clothes, nice jeans fit in as well.
My friends and I will definitely be back.
Scallops were slightly underdone (though perhaps they were as the chef intended). My wife fingerling potatoes had much too much pepper. The ambiance and service is among the best in Gainesville. Great dessert and wine list.
