Market Taverne Ratings and Reviews
Despite reservation, was given table in poor location—they did move our table at our request. Server was not good. After 1/2 hour, and seeing us looking toward him he said food coming soon. Another 15 minutes just for entree salad and BLT. Bacon not cooked as asked. Orange juice served in dirty glass. Disappointing overall.
We enjoyed a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner here. The atmosphere was very festive, the service was excellent and most of all, the food was very good. I had the prime rib. It was cooked just the way I like it and portion size was perfect. We will definitely return for other dining occasions.
Great ambience for Christmas Eve. A relatively loud family next to us but not the norm at this restaurant. Waiter was a pro. Appeared when he should and not when he shouldn't. Efficient for all food delivered to and taken away from the table. Handled all special requests in stride.
Food was very good - steak, seafood, and vegetarian. Not cheap but not super expensive either. A good meal at a good place for a good price. What's not to like?
Music was a little loud at first, but got seated at another table further from bar. However, that ended up with a lot of waiter foot traffic from the kitchen. Could use tablecloths if you have lit oil lamp on table! Some menu items were very good, but nothing really exceptional. Service was attentive though. Dinner Menu seems small(?). Weeknight reservation was not crowded at 7pm. Great ambiance with historic farmhouse feel!
Perfect place and food, the only comment I have is that we felt a sensation of being hushed to order the food, and finish it....they should allows us to be comfortable enjoying our wine and food w/o hushing us to finish and as for the check....beside that it is a wonderful place for a good dinner!
We have been to the The Market Taverne numerous times and have always been very pleased. We just took my son and his new girlfriend this week and were seated in a quiet area which was a real binus since we were able to talk easily. It is such nice ambiance especially for fall with everything decorated. Loved it!
Went for lunch- the food quality was very good, but they are very overpriced. For example, a main course salad was extremely small with a 3 or 4 oz piece of salmon was around $20. How much does it cost to add some more arugula ? A small bowl of blueberries and strawberries with a dollop of whipped cream $8.00 ... $8.00 ? really? Spent over $30 for lunch, left hungry.
4 of us shared the calamari..small portion and it was so so. We also shared the mussels, excellent.
3 ordered the seafood risotto. I think it had been sitting out before serving. It didn't taste as fresh as usual..chorizo maybe. Not sure. The 4th guest ordered the $38 steak and it came with fries. Really cheap looking presentation. I mean really...a small veggie with it would have been better. Come on $38? He lives in NYC and said it was a restaurant trying to be hip. Starts with the food!!!
Had lunch here on Wednesday. Enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Glad the hostess steered us away from the front patio--there were no tables in the shade. Was very happy to be at a table in the bar--the bartender was an excellent waiter! Had the Nicoise salad--had the tuna for a change, think I prefer the grilled salmon (personal preference). I always enjoy lunch Market Taverne--a long time favorite.
The food was fine; the service was great; the setting was cozy. However, the owner or catering manager opted to use our area to talk through the planning of an upcoming catered event with another couple. They were very loud and inconsiderate, especially the person from Market Taverne. The Market Taverne should conduct its business in an office or other area where paying customers are not trying to enjoy a meal. Ruined brunch for us.
There were four of us celebrating our friends' 40th wedding anniversary. Everyone enjoyed their dinner - two of us had the chicken and it was excellent. I rarely order chicken in a restaurant but this was delicious. The drinks were also very good and they have a nice selection of wines by the glass. It was a beautiful summer so we dined on the porch which made the whole experience even better. It is a bit pricey so probably best for a special occasion.
Our friends invited us to Thursday lobster night!!! When we first walked in and saw how small the lobster were, we almost ordered something else. But we decided to go for it since, after all, we did come for the lobster. It was the best lobster ever!!!! The amount of 'meat' was surprising & the flavor was amazing. Sitting on the porch was delightful, until it started raining & we were seated inside immediately where there was just as pleasant an environment & vibe. Can't wait to go this Thursday!!!!!
