Market Ratings and Reviews
The salmon was excellent! My husband declared his fried chicken decadent and delicious. Ozzie, our server, was very nice and professional. His dinner recommendations were spot on, including the raspberry chocolate cake for dessert. Dinner was a great experience.
Really enjoyed this place. The fried chicken was amazing. Other dishes were tasty, but the fried chicken is what I would recommend. The wine list is thorough but not overwhelming. And the bottle prices are the best I have ever seen - definitely worth buying a bottle rather than bringing your own and paying corkage. Service was a little slow to start; it was late and they were handling a large, rowdy party (and handling it well). Portions were huge; had to pack up half of the food. Would recommend to anyone.
All I can say is that EVERYTHING we have eaten here is excellent...as is the service! The filet mignon appetizer was absolutely the most tender I have ever enjoyed. My wife loved the carrot-ginger soup as well as the Dungeness crab cake with sweet corn relish! On previous occasions we have loved the "very adult mac and cheese" (which is always on the menu) as well as the evening special -- which happened that evening to be prime rib. And corkage here is complimentary so you can take a bottle of wine you already love to enjoy with your dinner. Keep up the good work, Market...we'll be back as soon as possible.
Scooting in on a last minute NYE reservation, we were warmly welcomed, enjoyed a fabulous meal, had the best waiter who knew his stuff, had a great sense of humor and went above and beyond in his service. The food was fantastic from the crab cakes to the filet minion, the champagne was fabulous and not overpriced, even on NYE, and the desert was incredible (butterscotch mousse!) The market uses local organic produce and meats and is healthy, fun and has a wonderful atmosphere.
I went to the Market with a girlfriend and we were seated in a very nice corner booth so we could talk and visit and look out at the restaurant and the lovely ambiance. We started with the Crab cake which was delicious and followed that with Brussel sprouts and our entrees. I had the fish tacos which were good but not great - somewhat bland. My friend had the fish and chips and said that they were wonderful. We ended the meal with the Smores which was fun and a nice sweet dessert. Overall everything was really good and the service was excellent. I would recommend Market to anyone visiting St. Helena.
We had a surprisingly great meal - only because we'd booked at many "lauded" restaurants and this was just a last minute pick. But what a great meal! I had scallops seared to perfection, with sides from another dish (I can't eat gluten, which was in the risotto). Beautifully presented on thin sliced, warm tomatoes with a perfectly al dente mix of carrots, peas, toasted almonds and a hint of bacon and a beurre blanc (I think) sauce. Exceptional, down to the last bite. The short ribs were a hit with my husband both for the flavor and the portion size - not overwhelming but enough to feel sated vs stuffed. We'll be back!
We met at the Market for a family dinner. I ordered the Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes, steamed spinach and cornbread. The fried chicken was cooked to perfection that the crust was crispy and the chicken was moist inside. The cornbread had pieces of corn, sweet to the taste but lack the southern cornbread texture. My daughter chose the scallops with risotto. The scallops were huge and delicately seared to a golden brown. My husband selected the salmon bisque and corn fritters. The bisque reminded us of lobster bisque, not having a fishy taste. The corn fritters were like the cornbread but in miniature dumpling-size and fried. Overall, we enjoyed the food and the restaurant's ambiance. We took our leftovers home to enjoy the next day.
This has been our "Go To" place for family functions for about a year. It's also great place to meet up with friends, or a romantic meal with my hubby. Have enjoyed every experience and look forward to the next. My one criticism actually came from my son (who's there twice a week! And he's a cheese monger) was the Parmesan that topped the lobster ravioli was not grated fresh - seriously! We all lapped it up and enjoyed everything else as well! In a town filled with great places to go, this one is perfect for us locals !
Last night we dined at Market for the Monday night Prime Rib, and we sure weren't disappointed. The meal was delicious and the service, wonderful as usual. We are locals so we are a familiar face, and are always treated like family. All diners are treated with a friendly and caring manner, but, when you are a regular it is even more fun! I am always happy to recommend Market to friends, family and my clients!
