Market on Houston
Ordered the pepperoni flat bread but it came out as two personal kids' frozen pizzas next to each other on the rectangular plate for flat breads. Absolutely pathetic. They acted like this was acceptable.
This is so convenient for the Majestic, but avoid. They had one bartender; it’s not like they didn’t know Hamilton was going on. I ordered the catch of the day. 15 minutes for a glass of wine and a rum and coke? These are not specialty drinks. The tuna was served well done, which is what the waitress said they do. My friend ordered the steak and shrimp. The steak was two thin pieces of asada and served burned. The asparagus was tough. My daughter liked her burger and chocolate cake. I will not return.
I got the pork chops with roasted brussel sprouts and potatoes and I am not kidding you, the brussels sprouts in a little white potatoes maybe they were fingerling? They were raw. They were browned and a little bit on the outside but the butter knife at your table does not cut through them at all. The pork chops were actually good, one was very tough. I had to keep asking anybody who came by where is my waitress or the manager? No one came. Finally the manager, who is seating people from the front desk was walking by and I had to scream at her to get her attention. She apologized profusely and took my plate back to have the vegetables cooked. I had to wait quite a while and when they came back the brussels sprouts are now officially burned but the potatoes were cooked through finally. I am not kidding you I had to peel out the burnt part to get to a little bit on the inside that wasn’t burned. She came walking through again asked if everything was OK I said well no my brussels sprouts are completely burned and she said well will take 25% off your bill. Gosh thanks! Her excuse was they were training new cooks in the kitchen. When the table next to me had the same exact experience with the brussels sprouts and potatoes and the new girl that came in after all this happened had the same exact experience. So I’m wondering how much training was actually going on? I could’ve done better myself! I definitely do not recommend!
Sunday brunch has been a delight the last several times. We always make a reservation as it fills up quickly. It is a leisurely brunch, so allow extra time to enjoy it. Our waiter, Antonio never disappoints!
There is a breakfast buffet. But, personally I love the shrimp and grits, southwestern cobb salad and the chocolate cake.
My daughter and I enjoyed our time at Market on Houston before going to see 'Hamilton.' Our food was served in a timely manner, and it was very good. With a 6:15 reservation, we had plenty of time to get to the 8:00 show.
Another great experience. Convenient parking and location for the Majestic.
Had a great meal with a full view of the Hamilton marquee at the Majestic Theatre!
Great place for before theater dining! Blakeleigh was a great server. Took care of all our needs timely and friendly!
The food was not fresh and served cold. We had to return items.
I have eaten here numerous times and given my last two experiences it is obvious that something is going on in the kitchen. We have ordered the chicken more times that I can count and never had it come out so dry. Pieces were also much smaller than normal. Gravy was way to thick. The pork chops were very good but definitely not the size that was served in the past. Normally food is served very quickly. At this visit we waited almost 40 minutes - way longer than the limited menu should require. The presentation of the food used to be so good and was just ok on our last two visits. Staff and management were not surprised by our comments and only charged us 50% of bill.
We will take a break from this restaurant in hopes that problems are corrected. Very disappointed.
The presentation of the food was much less than in past visit. The service was slow especially given how few patrons were in restaurant and how many waitresses were hanging out together. Our waitress was very slow to check on us and I had trouble flagging anyone down for drink refills.
Great place with great food. My only complaint is that the noise level is too high. Something should be done to reduce the noise.
There was no staff when we arrived at 4:15-4:30 PM, but they all did arrive by 4:31 PM.
I wish I could recommend this restaurant....we liked the atmosphere, our server was outstanding and the location was great especially since we were attending an event at The Majestic...but the food was very disappointing. The pizza flatbread was actually two round pizzas that looked like ones you can buy at the grocery store, the chicken on the chicken BLT was flavorless and a little dry, and the french fries were overcooked. Our server did share when we ordered that the flatbread would be two smaller ones but we were expecting more than what looked and tasted like store bought pizza. I suspect we are not the only ones who think the food is subpar; the restaurant wasn't full despite the fact the Majestic had a show that night.
Food and service excellent and convenience of being across the street from Majestic theater was perfect
Buttermilk Brined Chicken was as Dry as the Arizona Desert---Totally not Brined / For $16.00 Could've had Kentucky Fried and alot of---The Plate came with a Teaspoon of Sauteed Spinach/ And 2/3's Mashed Potatoes/----The best part of the Experience was our Waitress Adelia---She was New, And Willing to Accomadate us ,--But The Kitchen apparently was not on her side---we asked for another plate of chicken--came out as dry as the other--, really my wife ate nothing but the spinach---I Tried the chicken and even doused in the "Gravy" Was Almost to hard to swallow!----The Steak was Moderatly OK--Lots of Fat and grizzle ---Shrimp was popcorn size and apparently pre cooked and kinda stiff----Plenty of Potatoes That were Ok----All in All Not Very Happy---More of a Lubys Style Dining experience but not as Good...
Probably wouldn't Go Again --or least not Order a Main entree.

We arrived and weren’t given menus nor told that they only had buffet available until we asked for the menu. Didn’t advertise their menu change and weren’t helpful as first time visitors. Left and went to eat somewhere else instead.
Market on Houston was an excellent venue to enjoy breakfast! So much in fact, we ate there all 3 mornings we were in San Antonio. On days other than Sundays, you have both a buffet and a menu option. Sundays are buffet only. Everything our party of 4 ordered from the menu or enjoyed from the buffet was delicious. Fresh fruit and berries were available and so good. I highly recommend the waffle - shaped like Texas! The serving staff were available and friendly and the location is easily walkable; just a block or so from the Riverwalk. We would definitely recommend and would visit again!
Nice place to have an uncomplicated meal before a show at the Majestic or McCombs theatre. Service was slow before our show even though few in restaurant. Risotto was not fully cooked and was sticky but scallops were perfect.
The staff work hard and are pretty good at their jobs. However, ever since Marriott bought this place, the restaurant has turned into typical hotel cafeteria type place.
Very limited menu..
In fact, the menu you see online is not what you will get at the restaurant.
The place is fine if you are staying at the hotel and need a quick, bland iceberg lettuce salad.
But don’t go here for any other reason.
The food was good but the selection wasn't that great. The menu is mostly carb heavy, comfort style, sandwiches. This isn't a good place for a light meal.
Service was excellent, great and as good value! We will come again!
My friend ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken was under done. She refused to return it.
Our mother/daughter day at the Majestic began with lunch at Market on Houston. I do miss the lunch buffet that they used to offer but our waiter today more than made up for not having the buffet. Antonio was very attentive, not intrusive, kept up with our water refills and remembered out lunch order to a “t”. Yes, he made out lunch. Will be back.
We made reservations and the place was hopping. We checked in and they immediately brought us to a table with a reserved sign. The place is just fresh and modern but the food was the star. The servers and staff all were in great moods and smiles everywhere. I ‘ll Be back with both family and friends.
The food was good and so was our server
We had a great time before the Majestic! Food was very good and so was the service. We definitely will enjoy other meals at Market on Houston!
Was not busy. Went for late breakfast. First pot of coffee was cold. Waiter brought out toast 10min before meal. So was cold also. Order steak medium & eggs over medium. Steak was raw inside and eggs were runny. Great location but very disappointing ☹️
Great service with large portions!
My only "issue" with my dinner was my tab being overcharged. The waitress did tell me the item we wanted (crab cakes) was no longer available, which I understood, however my bill still included it ($12). Unfortunately I didn't realize this until much later. The food was great as was the service and I will definitely return.
Great food, great service.
It was great! The servers were so attentive and friendly.
The pork chops this time had bone in and fat, whereas the previous times they were boneless and fat less?
We had a fabulous time. The food was delicious. All the staff was very friendly and answered any questions we had. The chef and manager checked on us periodically.
Thank you for the excellent rating and for the king words. We are truly blessed to have a professional and accommodating team. Please come and visit us again soon!
Fabulous food and server! And, perfect for dinner before a play at the Majestic Theater.
Thank you for the excellent rating and for the kind words. We will certainly let your server know that you enjoyed your experience!
Not great. Flat bread pizza tasted like it was a frozen pizza from the grocery. Chicken added to the Caesar salad was ice cold.
Thank you for the visiting Market on Houston and for the candid review. I am embarrassed that we did not meet your expectations. We certainly don't want to let our guests down with sub par food. We will take a look at out procedures with our culinary team and use your feedback a learning platform. Thanks again, and please give us another chance to provide you with a quality meal.
We’d been to Market on Houston in the past for an event where the food was exceptional so when we saw they were participating in Restaurant week and saw edge menu we were excited. The meal was just so-so. My husband ordered the Cornish hen entree and his was actually very good- huge portion (an entire hen) and it was cooked with peaches and was very tasty. The Brussel sprouts on his plate were way underdone and impossible to eat and he said the fingerling potatoes were also undercooked. I ordered the petite filet with crab cake, asparagus and mashed potatoes. First everything on my plate was cool. The steak was very tough and not very flavorful. The mashed potatoes were very cold and both creamy. I like mashed potatoes diced that way but they have to be hot or they are inedible. Our waitress was very nice and we love the location, but very disappointed in their restaurant week offering and would have a hard time recommending them to others
The food was fresh, but limited selection. It was convenient to get a bite before the theatre.
Most everything was good. Unfortunately, getting refills on drinks did not happen until our meal was complete and bill was paid.
I have had dinner here at least 10 times a year for the past 4 years and up until January 2019 I have always enjoyed dinner here.
Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. I have eaten at the Market on Houston twice this month and both times have been very disappointing!
I found out last night that the restaurant has changed management companies, and with the change the managers, front desk and most of the waitstaff is gone.
The new employees are not personable, I don't think they enjoy their jobs and there was no sign of a manager. I was waited on last night by one of the staff members that has been there awhile and has waited on me a number of times and she was wonderful as always! The one bright spot in the evening.
The changes made in the kitchen are not any better. I ordered the Flatbread Pepperoni Pizza, only to find out the flatbread was changed. The new flatbread was more like bad amusement park pizza crust. It was so bad, I sent it back. I then ordered Brisket Quesadillas which were ok.
I think for now at least I am going to try some of the other restaurants in the area for my pre-theater dinner.
