Market on Houston
I recommend MOH for breakfast. Their breakfast burrito is amazing. Their dinner offerings were not impressive.
I enjoyed the atmosphere and the menu had a good selection.
Pre-play lunch before Broadway touring company play at The Majestic across the street. Staff was courteous, prompt, and attentive. Got our food and drink out quickly to make sure we made the play. Just salads and wine but all was good. Perfect for our needs .
Dinner before play. We were late and they worked with us. Very professional and pleasant.
The food is good and reasonable for the downtown San Antonio area. The downside on this particular visit was that the restaurant appeared to be very short-staffed. Wait to have our order taken was long, as was the wait once orders were placed. One of our items, a tomato/mozzarella salad was completely missed...but was apparently waiting in the kitchen the whole time. We did not previously have this kind of experience, which is why they are getting the benefit of the doubt on the stars...consider this a multi-visit rating On this most recent visit, they comped dessert to make up for all the chaos and inconvenience.
We always have such a great time when we go for lunch before the Majestic Theater show - everyone is so nice
You need a reservation on most Saturdays and it’s basically just sandwiches, salads, and flatbread . It has a very limited menu. Our waiter seemed rushed and didn’t check on us very much (to refill tea). Then he got our credit card mixed up with another table. Just not worth it when there are so many other good places on the river.
We love the food, the service and the ease of getting to a Majestic Performance on time.
Loved the tomato and mozzarella and greens salad with grilled shrimp added. Just right before the theater!
...Having been to MOH in past years, I was looking forward to having a nice meal. When we arrived (and we had a reservation), we were told that any food service would be at least a 20 minute wait. OK. But 45 minutes passed before our food was brought. A salad and a burger/fries. The place itself is noisy and the scraping of the chairs is annoying. The staff dropped so many dishes that I wonder they have any left. On the good side, the food was good. My salad was very crisp and fresh.
Food was delicious (best tomato basil soup ever!) and our waiter, Antonio, so awesome.
Food was super fast and waitress did a great job. Had the pork chop, it was to sweet for my taste.
Nice place with attentive service. Unfortunately, this is where the review turns negative. Nothing was bad. Nor was anything particularly good. Frittata was slightly under cooked for a frittata. It was a decent pale omelet but not what I ordered. It came with boring fried potatoes and ketchup. I’m in downtown San Antonio and not any salsa to be found. Thankfully our waiter found a nearly empty bottle of Cholula.
We were invited to enjoy the buffet but told that the usual omelet bar was currently not available. The sausage that we added to our meal was supposed to be locally sourced from the Texas hill country but it seemed more likely from a frozen box of heat and serve. Overall it was a hopefully forgettable meal.
It’s ok at best , don’t go off of the website add, or menu , service is excellent , food is ok , not sure what they are , kinda comes across as a deli and fine dinning atmosphere with out the menu . They have good service but lack clarity of what they are.
We had reservations before a show at the Majestic. We researched ahead of time on the internet looking at the menu to make sure there was something for everyone in our party. When we arrived we were given our menus and the item 2 of us wanted, the ribeye, was not on the menu. When we asked our server her response was this is what we have. We ordered drinks, and then asked about the pork chop on the menu. We were told it was one pork chop. When our meals came we had 2. I did not feel like she really cared if we were there or not. She would disappear for extended periods of time. The only saving grace was the food was pretty good. I do not think I would visit again.
Not impressed with market on Houston unfortunately. We had a 5:45 PM reservation before a play at the Majestic theater. The restaurant was about 20 to 30% occupied. They put us in a table for four right by the front door . We asked to be moved to One of the many available tables close by (also for four) and were told That was not possible. They were quite adamant that it was impossible to change tables. We took a quick glance at the menu-did not see anything terribly interesting so went to Landry‘s for a very nice dinner.
We had a reservation at 6:00 before a show across the street at the majestic. The valet parking at the Sheraton was super easy and we were seated immediately even though we were a little early for our reservation. As we sat, we began to notice it getting warmer and warmer in the restaurant. By the time our food came, we were all very uncomfortably warm. It was stifling in the front area of the restaurant. I am cold-natured by default, so the fact that I was having to fan myself with the bar menu and hold my hair up off my neck while I ate was not typical for me. We all ordered the fried chicken. My table-mates wanted to swap out the spinach for brussels sprouts but they were out. The fried chicken dish has wonderful comfort food presentation, but that is where the comfort ends. It's a nightmare to eat. You are served a small fried wing and thigh covered in gravy on top of a bed of mashed potatoes. It's almost impossible to eat a chicken thigh with a fork and knife and get any of the actual meat off the bones. Add to that --it is becoming lodged down into the mashed potatoes, the whole thing became an excavation project. It would have helped if we could have picked up the chicken to eat it, but it was covered in mashed potatoes and gravy. This dish would have worked fine with a boneless chicken breast that could be cut easily with fork and knife, but the dinky little wing and thigh were just not worth the effort. The whole experience was just disappointing. The restuarnt's easy parking and location across from the Majestic were really its only pluses. I'll go back to The Palm.
Ordered the pepperoni flat bread but it came out as two personal kids' frozen pizzas next to each other on the rectangular plate for flat breads. Absolutely pathetic. They acted like this was acceptable.
This is so convenient for the Majestic, but avoid. They had one bartender; it’s not like they didn’t know Hamilton was going on. I ordered the catch of the day. 15 minutes for a glass of wine and a rum and coke? These are not specialty drinks. The tuna was served well done, which is what the waitress said they do. My friend ordered the steak and shrimp. The steak was two thin pieces of asada and served burned. The asparagus was tough. My daughter liked her burger and chocolate cake. I will not return.
I got the pork chops with roasted brussel sprouts and potatoes and I am not kidding you, the brussels sprouts in a little white potatoes maybe they were fingerling? They were raw. They were browned and a little bit on the outside but the butter knife at your table does not cut through them at all. The pork chops were actually good, one was very tough. I had to keep asking anybody who came by where is my waitress or the manager? No one came. Finally the manager, who is seating people from the front desk was walking by and I had to scream at her to get her attention. She apologized profusely and took my plate back to have the vegetables cooked. I had to wait quite a while and when they came back the brussels sprouts are now officially burned but the potatoes were cooked through finally. I am not kidding you I had to peel out the burnt part to get to a little bit on the inside that wasn’t burned. She came walking through again asked if everything was OK I said well no my brussels sprouts are completely burned and she said well will take 25% off your bill. Gosh thanks! Her excuse was they were training new cooks in the kitchen. When the table next to me had the same exact experience with the brussels sprouts and potatoes and the new girl that came in after all this happened had the same exact experience. So I’m wondering how much training was actually going on? I could’ve done better myself! I definitely do not recommend!
Sunday brunch has been a delight the last several times. We always make a reservation as it fills up quickly. It is a leisurely brunch, so allow extra time to enjoy it. Our waiter, Antonio never disappoints!
There is a breakfast buffet. But, personally I love the shrimp and grits, southwestern cobb salad and the chocolate cake.
My daughter and I enjoyed our time at Market on Houston before going to see 'Hamilton.' Our food was served in a timely manner, and it was very good. With a 6:15 reservation, we had plenty of time to get to the 8:00 show.
Another great experience. Convenient parking and location for the Majestic.
Had a great meal with a full view of the Hamilton marquee at the Majestic Theatre!
Great place for before theater dining! Blakeleigh was a great server. Took care of all our needs timely and friendly!
The food was not fresh and served cold. We had to return items.
I have eaten here numerous times and given my last two experiences it is obvious that something is going on in the kitchen. We have ordered the chicken more times that I can count and never had it come out so dry. Pieces were also much smaller than normal. Gravy was way to thick. The pork chops were very good but definitely not the size that was served in the past. Normally food is served very quickly. At this visit we waited almost 40 minutes - way longer than the limited menu should require. The presentation of the food used to be so good and was just ok on our last two visits. Staff and management were not surprised by our comments and only charged us 50% of bill.
We will take a break from this restaurant in hopes that problems are corrected. Very disappointed.
The presentation of the food was much less than in past visit. The service was slow especially given how few patrons were in restaurant and how many waitresses were hanging out together. Our waitress was very slow to check on us and I had trouble flagging anyone down for drink refills.
Great place with great food. My only complaint is that the noise level is too high. Something should be done to reduce the noise.
There was no staff when we arrived at 4:15-4:30 PM, but they all did arrive by 4:31 PM.
I wish I could recommend this restaurant....we liked the atmosphere, our server was outstanding and the location was great especially since we were attending an event at The Majestic...but the food was very disappointing. The pizza flatbread was actually two round pizzas that looked like ones you can buy at the grocery store, the chicken on the chicken BLT was flavorless and a little dry, and the french fries were overcooked. Our server did share when we ordered that the flatbread would be two smaller ones but we were expecting more than what looked and tasted like store bought pizza. I suspect we are not the only ones who think the food is subpar; the restaurant wasn't full despite the fact the Majestic had a show that night.
Food and service excellent and convenience of being across the street from Majestic theater was perfect
Buttermilk Brined Chicken was as Dry as the Arizona Desert---Totally not Brined / For $16.00 Could've had Kentucky Fried and alot of---The Plate came with a Teaspoon of Sauteed Spinach/ And 2/3's Mashed Potatoes/----The best part of the Experience was our Waitress Adelia---She was New, And Willing to Accomadate us ,--But The Kitchen apparently was not on her side---we asked for another plate of chicken--came out as dry as the other--, really my wife ate nothing but the spinach---I Tried the chicken and even doused in the "Gravy" Was Almost to hard to swallow!----The Steak was Moderatly OK--Lots of Fat and grizzle ---Shrimp was popcorn size and apparently pre cooked and kinda stiff----Plenty of Potatoes That were Ok----All in All Not Very Happy---More of a Lubys Style Dining experience but not as Good...
Probably wouldn't Go Again --or least not Order a Main entree.

We arrived and weren’t given menus nor told that they only had buffet available until we asked for the menu. Didn’t advertise their menu change and weren’t helpful as first time visitors. Left and went to eat somewhere else instead.
Market on Houston was an excellent venue to enjoy breakfast! So much in fact, we ate there all 3 mornings we were in San Antonio. On days other than Sundays, you have both a buffet and a menu option. Sundays are buffet only. Everything our party of 4 ordered from the menu or enjoyed from the buffet was delicious. Fresh fruit and berries were available and so good. I highly recommend the waffle - shaped like Texas! The serving staff were available and friendly and the location is easily walkable; just a block or so from the Riverwalk. We would definitely recommend and would visit again!
Nice place to have an uncomplicated meal before a show at the Majestic or McCombs theatre. Service was slow before our show even though few in restaurant. Risotto was not fully cooked and was sticky but scallops were perfect.
The staff work hard and are pretty good at their jobs. However, ever since Marriott bought this place, the restaurant has turned into typical hotel cafeteria type place.
Very limited menu..
In fact, the menu you see online is not what you will get at the restaurant.
The place is fine if you are staying at the hotel and need a quick, bland iceberg lettuce salad.
But don’t go here for any other reason.
The food was good but the selection wasn't that great. The menu is mostly carb heavy, comfort style, sandwiches. This isn't a good place for a light meal.
Service was excellent, great and as good value! We will come again!
My friend ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken was under done. She refused to return it.
