Market House will continue our tradition of offering a three course fixed price menu from 10:00am to 3:00pm on Mother's Day. Larger parties or those not seeing the times they prefer should inquire directly. A special a la carte dinner menu will be served from 4pm to 7pm.

Hands-down, Market House is one of my favorite spots in Lake Forest for a variety of reasons. First, the ambiance - the leather banquets, equestrian pictures and brass lamps lend itself to the charm of Lake Forest. Market House is a club that's open to everyone.
The food is consistently good. The lemon sole was crispy without a hint of sogginess, enhanced by lemon and the pepperiness of arugula. The club sandwich is a hearty meal with added complexity from the Hook's aged cheddar cheese.
Market House was a frequent destination when I visited Lake Forest, and it continues to be a destination now that I'm a resident.
A spontaneous decision to try a new place for dinner with friends turned into a great find. We’ll be back.
Halibut was over broiled and lemon iced pound cake had no icing and was dry.
The food was so-so,the burger was not good some areas not cooked, the salmon(asked medium)was raw,the gnokis were ok.
Loved our meal at Market House. The staff makes everyone feel welcome and the food is delicous. Thank you!
Fantastic dishes. Great service. Reasonably priced.
Expensive and small portions.
Attentive service in nice atmosphere.
Diverse menu of upscale comfort foods. Preparation and flavors are solid if unspectacular. Okay wines and a good selection of beers. A pleasant enough experience but there are more interesting and satisfying options on the North Shore.
We often go for lunch during nice weather as the garden room and outdoor patio are both very pleasant.
Nice little place
Went there for Easter Brunch with family. It was a prix fixe menu. Reservation was at 11:45am. 1hr 45m later we still had not been served our food. What was even more puzzling was that 4 out of the 7 orders were just cheeseburgers for the kids. Got up and walked out.
The menue was limited thought there would be more selection. Food good, thought price of Drinks was a little high . It has a very warn and inviting dining room and the service was ok Would go there again
The cat fish was tasteless and the lettuce on top of the Dover Sole was bitter.
Lunch with friend
Excellent food with service to match. Our waitress was great. The food was fresh and very tasty.
We so enjoyed our meal at the Market House. The food was excellent and they easily accommodated our party of 8 while we celebrated our daughter’s graduation from Navy Basic Training. The service was wonderful and attentive. My only issue was the fairly overpriced wine list. I am familiar with many of the selections and the pricing was some of the highest I’d ever seen. Otherwise, it was a wonderful experience that I’d recommend to anyone looking for a lovely meal.
Great place at the bar to ca ch up with old friends and conduct some casual business. The old fashion is amazing. I had the kale and pumpkin salad with chicken. Great! Also had the crispy shrimp as an app. Very good. I’ll be back!
Made reservation asking for quiet table by the fireplace. Came at 5pm and did not get closest table by the fire. Disappointed. Halfway through our meal, they seated a table of 6-8 women right next to us who were having a girls night out and we’re loud and obnoxious. It dampened our evening and caused us to leave early. Would have loved to have stayed for a dessert and after dinner drink, but the women were way too loud. I would have thought the restaurant would have respected our wishes for a quiet table by the fire. Not sure this will be the place we go next time to meet friends.
We sat in the bar area which is very quaint. The food was delicious and our server was great and had great suggestions. We would definitely go back!
It was another lovely evening at Market House. My date asked about a dish the waiter suggested, he said ‘its good, try it, if you don’t like it send it back’. I ordered another dish he spoke well of, the lobster shrimp scampi. In the end we both liked the scampi very much and had her order exchanged for that. No fuss at all and a great evening.
Wonderful lunch menu, great crab cakes, salmon salad. Great service and nice decor. Noise is a factor, but the food makes it worthwhile.
We waited 20 minutes to get asked if we would like something to drink and then another 20 minutes to get our drinks. We then waited 10-15 minutes to get our food order taken. He didn’t stop to ask us if we needed any other drinks nor did he refill our water. We’re not picky nor are we complainers but the service was very poor and it was unfortunate because the food was great.
Service was very friendly, but slow
Steak was extra peppery so be careful
Very good valentines day dinner. Very good food & service.
This is one of the very few nice restaurants in Lake Forest. Prices are not outlandish, the food is good and there is good value for what one gets. It is a good restaurant if one wants to sit down, be served and talk with your dining partner. Surprisingly, there is little else in this category in Lake Forest. The patio in the summer looks really great.
Restaurant was empty when we arrived, and we were told the kitchen would close at 2:30 (the time of our reservation which was made via Open Table). Nevertheless, we had a very nice time and the service was excellent. We'll call to confirm if we happen to schedule another late lunch. Thanks.
Great service, beautiful restaurant.
I cannot recall when I have ever experienced such poor service. I never, ever complain, but it was ridiculous. Our server never looked our way; he never turned his head to scan the room! Other service staff had to do extra work to tell him to refill Diet Coke, etc. I never was given a coffee refill. Spoke with hostess/manager, who was directing the room. She never once asked what was wrong and waved her hands and said, “It’s all good; it’s all good.” “Come again and it will be good.” I have been a good customer of Market House, but will not return.
Good food and excellent service! I always enjoy my meals at Market House and return often with friends and family.
Market House on the Square has a nice location relative to Lake Forest College and is well-liked by the locals. We took our son there for dinner while visiting. The interior is very nice and well layed out. The food was decent, not great. The Bistro Steak was not well prepared and was dry. I had the special which was Striped Bass. This was well prepared and tasty. Outside of the special I was having difficulty selecting off the menu. The service was thoughtful. That said, there was nothing outstanding about the restaurant and we will seek out other options next time we are in the area. As a matter of fact, we are taking the Metra to downtown Chicago for different options tonight.
I want to like this place . Great location fun outdoor space goregous indoor space but food is why we come and.... every time
I come I say never again . $24 for a piece of sole, quiche was a runny mess . Salmon salad was good and service attentive . If they can improve food it will be a hit by food just isn’t good.
So nice to be back at my favorite table in the bar. The cozy atmosphere was perfect for a winters night.
My guest is from Austria, and he ordered the pate. He absolutely loved it and made it his main course!
As for me, that kale and pumpkin salad with a chicken breast added is hands down a favorite!
Oh! And Caymus by the glass....yes please
Burger didn't taste good at all, fries good. Need better menu
Great food, great wine and excellent service. Our go-to place for dinner. Great service as usual. Will be back again this week.
Great salmon salad! Beautiful ambiance sitting next to the warm fire....
The food was delicious. The staff was very friendly. The portion sizes were great.
Food is delicious and creative seasonal selections; great cocktails; excellent wines by the glass and Wednesday are half price bottles (great selection); staff is wonderful.
Market House is our go-to local restaurant -- always good, always comfy, always classy. I do wish it would stay open an hour later than it does on weeknights.
Love your expanded new menu!
