Market House on the Square
The dining room has a warm clubby vibe while the bar is welcoming and cozy. In warm weather there is no place as beautiful as the 80 seat patio that also offers comfortable lounge seating to enjoy a cocktail.
The five private dining spaces are the ideal location for business meetings and dinners, family celebrations, rehearsal dinners and showers.
Monthly special dinners include summer Pig Roasts and wine dinners.
Service was very nice. Sat on the patio. Steak was ok. Crab cake was very good. Drinks were excellent. Nice place to go to.
We sat outside in the courtyard. It was very nice. My dinner was supposed to be mostly vegetables, but it was mostly noodles. The small onions were cut in half but still had the tough outer layer on them, which made them hard to eat. However, the service was outstanding.
We sat on the patio so the noise level was nil. Their patio is wonderful, overlooking downtown Lake Forest and covered by a very large, old oak tree. I had the shrimp appetizer (can't remember the name) and it was large enough for two or a meal for one. We returned this night specifically because my daughter was craving their Cuban Sandwich which she had one other time. Wonderful neighborhood spot.
Good food, good service. We will be going back.
The food, service and ambiance here never disappoint!
Excellent service and wonderful choices. We enjoyed ourselves. We love the outdoor patio also.
If you have a baby, I don't recommend. They do not have baby changer. Love this place but can only return after my kids are older enough to use the restrooms by themselves? I was surprised this restaurant doesn't offer such a basic thing.
Sat outside and enjoyed the food
Outdoor dining is fabulous. We brought visitors and they absolutely fell in love with the ambiance and food.
Food was just OK. Maybe we ordered the wrong things.
We sat on the patio and it was a lovely atmosphere. The food was great!
This was our first time dinning at Market House and we were a party of 4. Once we were through the door we were greeted with a warm welcome and given a chose of sitting in the bar, dinning room or patio. It was nice to see the tables well spaced with attractive and comfortable deco. Once seated in the patio which is partly shaded trees and umbrellas, we were imediately greeted by the busboy who oftered us water and bread. The menu offers a nice sellection some being comforting classics like Grilled Sustainable Raised Fresh Salmon or a creative Amish Chicken Meatballs. Thier commitment to local produce was very apparent from the flavor of the delicious dishes we had. Our only regret is that we didn't have room for one of the temting desserts. Wonderful service and great food!
The food, service, and lovely garden seating was all wonderful. My friend and I each enjoyed the delicious Thai Bowl. Anything I have ever eaten here has been delicious!
Perfect weather for a fun long cocktail lunch catching up with friends on the patio. From the healthy bowls to the delicious egg salad BLT, our choices were delicious.
We eat at Market House a lot for lunch and it is always delicious with good service. Last night we had a special occasion so we tried it for dinner. Seemed they were over committed which resulted in a very long wait for food and not great quality once it got to us. Disappointing given it was a special occasion for us. The server did comp our first drinks which a decent gesture.
It’s pretty pricy but the food quality is horrible. My salad was salty. My flatbread was not tasty.
Outstanding as always! Great place to meet friends/colleagues for lunch.
Service was a bit slow. Server recommended scallops twice after being told about a shellfish allergy. But food was good.
I had the most delicious Mint Julep while dining on the patio. The food and presentation was good. The service was slow, plates left on table and was pretty lifeless.
The pricing of the menu however is not proportional to the food. Prices are high for items that should be more interesting, unique, flavorful (fish tacos, salads, the various bowls) for the price point.
Pea soup not chilled and had no flavor. Needed seasoning. The escarole was impossible to eat. Only two 1 inch artichoke bits. Dressing too bland.
Nice place to go for an al fresco evening. Especially nice with music in the park
Although a long time since we last dined here (we live out of state), everything was even better than our last time. Antoinet’s service was exceptional, as were the drinks (Manhattan and Gin Gimlet). Service was discrete but prompt and her advise was spot on. We had the Trout and the Amish Chicken...both were fabulous. The cold cauliflower soup was perfect for a warm evening. Wines were perfectly paired with dinner. Best of all, the check was quite reasonable considering our experience (worth considerably more!). We so enjoyed our experience! Thanks to all for your gracious hospitality!
I might add our kids live nearby. We are ordering up a gift card so they too, can enjoy a wonderful evening!
We think.you have the prettiest patio in Lake County. But a dinner of a burger, 2 appetizers, 2 iced teas and a beer shouldn't cost $80 with tip. Afraid we can't afford your lovely restaurant.
Food was very good and fresh. The waitress was super sweet and had a happy smile all the time. Patio is beautiful.
Food was incredibly bland, in the first 10 min we had 3 different waiters which was clearly confusion. Flourless choc cake was so cold and dry. Looked like it had been pulled out from shrink wrap and dropped on our table. As a result, over priced effort.
We sat outside which is always a wonderful and relaxing experience. This particular Sunday was a "Blues Sunday Brunch" and my only complaint is that the band was incredibly loud. They lowered their volume a bit after one set but it was still uncomfortably loud. Food and service perfect.
Saturday night dinner at Market House and everything was perfect, from the homemade blue-cheese olives in our martinis to the hardened caramel drizzled on the carrot cake. Can't rave enough about the truffle-oil fried zucchini sticks. Yum. The kale salad was the best we've ever had. Great salmon, great blackened chicken bowl... and the servers were attentive and friendly while also giving us privacy.
Came here for a Saturday bday lunch for my mother-in-law. Great menu offerings with a slight twist, but not an overwhelming variety. Portions were lunch appropriate and the overall experience was excellent. Will definitely be back.
Beautiful place. Great location. Super service. Fantastic food. Delicious cocktails and the perfect company! BLT Egg Salad Sandwich with house-made chips was quite tasty, and the Thai Bowl divine! Couldn’t have asked for more for our weekday lunch reservation!
Celebrating a college graduation...we were treated to a delicious chocolate cake for dessert!😊
Lovely setting and the food is good. The only drawback is the service. We were on an outside patio and it took 20 minutes just to order a cocktail. Had to go into the restaurant to find out whom was to be taking our orders. They need a manager that is more aware of his staff and patrons being attended to.
Food and service were excellent. Love this place. One of our favorite places.
The building and setting is lovely. The menu isn’t very exciting or good. Menu has been the same for a long time. Staff is very friendly. It needs a do over.
For denizens of Lake Forest and visitors alike, the relatively recent revitalization of this restaurant under new management insures more than a pleasant view of Market Square from the patio. The menu has been enriched beyond its popular fish tacos and sandwiches and offers scrumptious trout and crispy lemon sole. Wines available by the glass now include not only Sancerre but also Macon and Meursault. Members of the staff are friendly and reliable, as well.
Nice outdoor dining area, inside dining room & now a healthy bowl carry out. Nice menu and bar selections with many gluten free options. And, they have a fun kids menu. The minor mistake was they forgot to give my daughter fries with her order. But, later they brought her some.
Great outdoor dining. Sea food selections very good.
Had a wonderful lunch on the outdoor patio which was fantastic. Very good selection of healthy food and all of our meals were delicious as well as aesthetically pleasing. Attentive wait staff. Will be back.
Monday at Market House. The weather has been cool so we were inside near the fireplace. Almost like late winter, not a few days to Solstice. Great food, as always. Friendly staff, but then, they see me frequently. Market House can be your home away from home too.
Their varied specials are always innovative and wonderful. Especially the sandwiches. The blackened cod sandwich special was the best.
Awesome food and service. We have been coming here 5 years in a row for Fathers day Sunday brunch and it has always been a great day!
